1953 Chevy 210 2 door sedan. The car was originally a rust free Kansas car that was brought back to Ohio and built over 20 years ago. The body was stripped, straightened, and painted jade green. The interior was redone in vinyl and tweed. All of the chrome was replated. The original engine was removed and replaced with a Chevrolet 400 small block with an aluminum intake and Edelbrock carbureator. The engine is backed by a 350 turbo and a Nova 10 bolt rear end and a dual exhaust system. The car drives great with the power rack and pinion steering and stops well with power drum brakes. Last year a new three core radiator was installed and although it is rarely needed, there is an electric fan that can be switched on if sitting in traffic too long. The car also has an aftermarket air conditioning unit to cool you down when traveling to and from shows on hot summer days. The car still retains the original vacuum winshield wipers which work fine. When the car was restored, it also had a new windshield installed. The undercarriage is in great shape. I put the car on my lift to take a few pictures and the frame, floors, and floor braces are in great condition. The car has many accessory items including an original windshield visor, fender skirts, bloomers (stainless trim from the stone guards back), dummy spotlights, fender guides, amber dot park lenses, blue dot tail light lenses, and a CD player. The car currently has a little over 52,000 actual miles on it, but only about 15,000 miles since restored. The car has been driven to several long distance shows with no plroblems. The successful bidder is required to place a $500 deposit through Paypal and pay the remaining balance within 7 days. If the successful bidder chooses to pay the entire amount through Paypal, they must also pay the Paypal fee. The successful bidder is also responsible for all shipping arrangements and cost of shipping. Sorry, I will not reveal the reserve. I am listing for a friend who has decided it is time to sell due to age and health. He and his wife have had their enjoyment with the car and feel that it is time for someone else to enjoy it. Good luck.

The USPS needs 180,000 new delivery vehicles, automakers gearing up to bid
Wed, Feb 18 2015Winning the New York City Taxi of Tomorrow tender was a huge prize for Nissan, even though the company is still working through the process of claiming its prize. The United States Postal Service has begun the process to take bids for a new delivery vehicle to replace the all-too-familiar Grumman Long Life Vehicle, and that will be a much larger plum for the automaker who wins it, perhaps worth more than six billion dollars. The Grumman LLV is an aluminum body covering a Chevrolet S-10 pickup chassis and General Motors' Iron Duke four-cylinder engine. The USPS bought them from 1987 to 1994, and the 163,000 of them still in service are a monumental drain on postal resources: they get roughly ten miles to the gallon instead of the quoted 16 mpg, drink up more than $530 million in fuel each year, and their constant repair needs like the balky sliding door and leaky windshields have led the service to increase the annual maintenance budget from $100 million to $500 million. A seat belt is about as modern as it gets for safety technology, and the USPS says that assuming things stay the same, it can't afford to run them beyond 2017. Last year it put out two triage requests for proposals seeking 10,000 new chassis and drivetrains for the Grumman and 10,000 new vehicles. The LLV is also too small for the modern mail system in which package delivery is growing and letter delivery is declining. The service says it doesn't have a fixed idea of the ideal "next-generation delivery vehicles," but it listed a number of requirements in its initial request and is open to any proposal. Carriers have some suggestions, though, saying they want better cupholders, sun visors that they can stuff letters behind, a driver's compartment free of slits that can swallow mail, and a backup camera. The request for information sent to automakers pegs the tender at 180,000 vehicles that would cost between $25,000 and $35,000 apiece, and it will hold a conference on February 18 to answer questions about the contract. GM is the only domestic maker to avow an interest, while Ford and Fiat-Chrysler have remained cagey. Yet with a possible $6.3 billion up for grabs and some new vans for sale that would be advertised on every block in the country, we have a feeling everyone will be listening closely come February 18. We also have a feeling the LeMons series is going to be flooded with Grummans come 2017. News Source: Wall Street Journal, Automotive News - sub.
GM to trim Russian output, raise prices amid currency woes
Thu, Feb 5 2015General Motors is shutting down its factory in Russia's second largest city, St. Petersburg, from the middle of March until the middle of May as the country's currency, the ruble, continues to give economists fits. The ruble's value has plunged due not only to western sanctions, but a precipitous fall in oil prices. We knew these factors were already impacting the auto industry there, as Ford reported in its 2014 earnings statement, and now they're forcing GM to cut production at the factory, shown above, that is responsible for production of the Chevrolet Cruze and Opel Astra. Meanwhile, Automotive News is citing Russian outlet Kommersant as saying that GM has hiked its prices in the country by an average of 20 percent over the past two months. While a GM spokesman confirmed the St. Petersburg plant would be shut down for the two-month span reported by Kommersant and AN, he would not confirm the price increase. GM throttles back Chevy Malibu, Buick LaCrosse production over swollen inventories
Wed, 06 Feb 2013As inventory of the Chevrolet Malibu and Buick LaCrosse continues to pile up, General Motors will be idling its Fairfax Assembly Plant for two weeks, according to Automotive News. This move comes about a month after the plant was shut down for three weeks in late December and early January for the same reason. As of January 31, the GM had a 94-day supply of Malibu stock while the LaCrosse was a little worse with a 117-day supply.
Just last week, GM announced that it would be investing $600 million in upgrading this plant, but it's unclear what future plans the company has in store for Fairfax considering slow sales of both the plant's models. We do expect a refreshed and more luxurious LaCrosse shortly and an early design update for the Malibu to be announced at some point this year, although we have had no official word as to when either will happen.
