1953 Chevrolet Bel Air 2 Door Hardtop Coupe 53 Chevy Street Rod Hot Rod Classic on 2040-cars
East Rochester, Ohio, United States
Just close your eyes and picture yourself behind the wheel of this absolutely gorgeous Viper Red Chevy as you cruise on down the street gathering smiles and waves everywhere you go.
Everybody loves a 53 Chevy, and this is certainly one you would be proud to own. Spending all of it's life in sunny North Carolina until the present owner brought it to Ohio, this beauty appears to have never had a bit of rust. The owner did a five year total restoration and says that he found the frame, supports, body mounts, floors, trunk floor, free of any signs of rust and only one tiny pencil tip size area of rust on the body as the car was stripped down to bare metal. A new 350 crate motor with 265 horsepower with electric fuel pump was installed along with a re-built 350 transmission about 5 years and 1,600 miles ago. All chrome was re-plated except the rear bumper, which shines great and still has a North Carolina car dealer's sticker on it. The drum brakes are all new, as are the ball joints, tie rods, idler arm and shocks. Flow Masters were installed to give a nice mellow rumble to the dual exhaust. All gauges including tach and 160 mph speedometer work fine, but the heater was removed and the wipers were not connected. The car has manual steering and maintains the original steering wheel. My close inspection of this beautiful Chevy showed the undercarriage to look great and the entire body, trim, chrome, and glass to be in superior condition. Subprime financing on the rise in new car sales, leasing too
Fri, 07 Dec 2012We all remember the financial crisis that began several years back. At its core was a splurge of subprime lending for housing loans. The housing bubble burst, triggering a collapse of the mortgage-backed securities market. Apparently, those types of loans still exist in the automotive industry, and the market share for these types of "nonprime, subprime, and deep subprime," loans has grown 13.6 percent compared to the third quarter a year ago.
According to an Automotive News report, high-risk lending expanded to 24.8 percent of total loans in Q3, up from 21.9 percent for this time last year. As this level increased, average credit scores of borrowers dropped to 755, down from 763 a year ago. In that time, the average financing amount increased $90 per vehicle, to $25,963.
At 818, Volvo maintains the highest per-owner credit score, while Mitsubishi has the lowest, at 694. The highest rate of borrowers was at Toyota, with 14 percent of the market, followed by Ford with 13.1 percent and Chevrolet at 11.1.
Nissan Leaf keeps plug-in vehicle sales crown for 6th straight month
Thu, May 1 2014And Nissan makes it 14 in a row. For the 14th straight month, the all-electric Leaf has had "record sales," according to Nissan's marketing team. What that means is that for that particular month (in this case, April) no matter what year you look at, the car sold more than it ever did before. For April 2014, the 2,088 Leafs sold represents a 7.8-percent increase from 2013. Nissan's director of EV sales and marketing, Toby Perry, said in a statement that the "new market" of Cincinnati made the top 25 list for Leaf sales areas in April, so the car's popularity continues to ebb and flow across the US. Over at Chevy, the Volt sold 1,548 units in April, reaching a year-to-date total of 5,154. The Leaf is outpacing that with 7,272 YTD sales. In 2013, the Volt outsold the Leaf by about 500 vehicles, but Leaf sales are up 33 percent year-over-year while Volt is down 7.1 percent. The Leaf has also outsold the Volt for six straight months. But we're excited for every eco-car sale, and that's why we'll have our monthly detailed write-up of the rest of the plug-ins, hybrids and diesel vehicles available soon. Until then, discuss. Silverado HD, Touareg V10 TDI face off in diesel tug-of-war
Sun, 30 Dec 2012A couple weeks ago, we watched a Chevrolet Silverado get dominated by a Dodge Ram Heavy Duty in a fullsize pickup tug-of-war, but in that truck's defense, Chevy's Vortec gas engine was no match for the torquey Cummins turbo diesel. For our next round of vehicular tug-of-war, a Duramax-powered Silverado HD takes on Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI.
Now, on paper, putting the Duramax V8's 365 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque up against the V10's 310 hp and 553 lb-ft looks like an easy win for the Bowtie, but unfortunately, this battle has a similar result as the Dodge versus Chevy video, with the Silverado smoking its tires trying to move forward as it gets pulled backwards. Put another way: YouTube 2, Chevy Silverado 0.
It just goes to show, though, that big tires, bolt-on fender flares and goofy smoke stacks don't improve your towing abilities. Besides, what did the Silverado driver expect when the Touareg V10 TDI has towed a Boeing 747 in the past?
