Hi everyone, this is my 55 Chevy Bel air that I have decided to let go, I bought it last summer from a gentleman in California, and have been working on it ever since, when I received it it didn't take long to find out that she needed some work, so I started with a..... new 1 piece floor and all new body bushings(all other pannels are original and in very good condition from what I can see ), ...then I installed Dyna mate sound deadener every where I could get it, ...next I installed a brand new wiring harness, ....next a new carpet and Headliner with brand new chrome bows,.... it also has new door panels and rear panels, and also new kick panels with speakers, .....after that I put a brand new Dakota digital dash and new billet dash trim, and a very nice digital stereo system with a new 400 wt amp in the trunk, ,....I also installed a new chrome tilt steering column and a new steering wheel,..... it has very nice bucket seats and original seat in back,....all in a very nice diamond tuck,....it doesn't have air but it does have heat , ....all in all the interior looks very nice,.....that's about all I have done with the inside that I can think of, ....as for the out side,.... first I did a Manuel disk break conversion .... and then I installed a new power steering kit,..... now when I bought the car it had a big block in it but I decided to go with a small block, .... I already had a nice 383 stroker that I wanted to put in it but it had been setting on the engine stand for a few years,... so I had all new bearings and seals and a new hi volume oil pump

put in it..... and I also had a nice set of double hump heads that I wanted to use so I sent them out and had new 202 160 valves and new springs and seals installed ,....and I also installed a new comp cams thumper cam and lifters  roller tip rockers ....and new edelbrock performer air gap intake and a new Holly double pumper carb,..... also has a new pro comp billet distributor and msd coil and ignition box,and a new mini starter, .....and so now she has a very nice motor that sound awesome and has great power,...... as for the trans it has a munce four speed, there was nothing wrong with that so I left it alone, .....but I did install a new center force clutch and pressure plate and throw out bearing,.......now for the exhaust I just had a brand new 2/12 inch duel exhaust with stainless headers and Magnaflo mufflers, ......now as for the exterior body it didn't really need much,.....now the paint isn't perfect she does have a few blemishes but over all she looks pretty good, ..... but I did put brand new 18x8 Chip Foose Nitros wheels and new Nitto tires,.....and I must say they look great on her, ......I also installed new stainless molding on her,.....it also has a new gas tank and sending unit,.....and also a new grill...it has the electric wiper conversion but I think the cables need adjusted but it does have new wiper arms and blades..... now as you can see I have done quite a bit of work on the 55 and I’ve tried to think of everything but I’m sure that there's a few things that I have left out so if you have any questions just let me know,..... ( you can contact me thru ebay or just give me a call at 740 456 6095 )....now this is not a show car but it is a very nice solid Bel air driver that I think any one would be proud to drive, so if you are looking for a good driver that you can take to the cruse in and be proud of then this just may be what your looking for, ....now this is a 58 year old car so I cant give any kind of warrantee so she will be sold as is where is thanks and good luck,  .......Darrell..

Detroit 3 to implement delayed unified towing standards for 2015

Tue, Feb 11 2014

Car buyers have a responsibility to be well-informed consumers. That's not always a very simple task, but some guidelines are self-evident. If you live in a very snowy climate, you generally know a Ford Mustang or Chevrolet Camaro might not be as viable a vehicle choice as an all-wheel drive Explorer or Traverse, for example. If you want a fuel-efficient car, it's generally a good idea to know the difference between a diesel and a hybrid. But what if it's kind of tough to be an informed consumer? What if the information you need is more difficult to come by, or worse, based on different standards for each vehicle? Well, in that case, you might be a truck shopper. For years, customers of light-duty pickups have had to suffer through different ratings of towing capacities for each brand. For 2015 model year trucks, though, that will no longer be a problem. According to Automotive News, General Motors, Ford and Chrysler Group have announced that starting with next year's models, a common standard will be used to measure towing capacity. The Detroit Three will join Toyota, which adopted the Society of Automotive Engineers' so-called SAE J2807 standards way back in 2011. The standard was originally supposed to be in place for MY2013, but concerns that it would lower the overall stated capacity for trucks led Detroit automakers to pass. Ford originally passed, claiming it'd wait until its new F-150 was launched to adopt the new standards, leading GM and Ram to follow suit. Nissan, meanwhile, has said it will adopt the new standards as its vehicles are updated, meaning the company's next-generation Titan should adhere to the same tow ratings as its competitors. While the adoption of SAE J2807 will be helpful for light-duty customers, those interested in bigger trucks will still be left with differing standards. There is no sign of the new tow standards being adopted for the heavy-duty market.

Looking back on our favorite cars of Mad Men

Tue, Apr 7 2015

The second half of the seventh and final season of Mad Men debuted this week, set to cap a run of public and critical acclaim. A decade's worth of interesting cars also made for good television, if you were paying attention. Vehicles didn't often steal the spotlight from Don, Betty, Roger, Joan and the gang, but they added meaningfully to the tone and beauty of the series. We sorted through the wheeled extras from Mad Men's archives, and choose some of our favorites to highlight. The list consists of cars that had at least a small impact on the plot of an episode, though certainly there are worthy gems hiding in just about every street and driving scene. Check out our subjective top five, and then let us know which of the Mad Men cars would be on your list. 1962 Cadillac Coupe DeVille – Season 2 Don Draper's Cadillac Coupe DeVille, all 500 feet of it, shows up in a few seasons of the show, but it's the first appearance that sets the tone. A Cadillac salesman, cut from the same cloth as Draper, asks what Don drives right now. "A Dodge," Don admits. "Those are wonderful if you want to get somewhere," allows the salesman, "this is for when you've already arrived." For a man on the move up corporate and social ladders that's a powerful message, and a pitch-perfect car. 1961 Lincoln Continental – Season 3 The most stylish Lincoln Continental ever is perfect set dressing for the mod show, of course. Though it's interesting that the car isn't cast as dapper Draper's ride, but rather his father-in-law's. Grandpa Gene does what all great grandfathers are bound to: lets his granddaughter Sally drive the big Lincoln while he works the pedals. Generational bond secured, in fine fashion. When you go back through the first three seasons of the show, you'll notice that Continentals show up more than once, too. There's nothing quite like them to evoke the best of the early '60s. 1963 John Deere 110 – Season 3 The only non-standard passenger vehicle on the list, no self-respecting gearhead/Mad Men fan should quibble with the inclusion of the John Deere 110 riding mower. For starters, the Deere is lovely to look at; a miniature version of the American Heartland icon in its green and yellow duds. The 110 appears as if milled from a solid block of steel, just the opposite of today's sleek, plasticky lawn minders (we're scouring Craigslist for one to bring home). The John Deere also has dear ramifications to the plot, too.

Weekly Recap: GM plans massive new paint shop at Chevy Corvette factory

Sat, May 23 2015

General Motors is laying out some serious green to maintain the Chevy Corvette's expansive color palette. The automaker is breaking ground on a new paint shop this summer that's part of a $439-million investment to upgrade the 34-year-old Bowling Green, KY, factory that builds the Stingray. The massive new structure will total 450,000 square feet, nearly half the size of the current 1-million square-foot facility. Construction is expected to take two years and won't impact Corvette production. The upgrades include new robots that save paint and create a better finish, longer, more efficient ovens to bake in the finish, and LED lighting. There's also a dry scrubbing booth technology with a limestone handling system that eliminates waste. GM has invested $135 million in the factory in last four years for the changeover to build the C7 and to relocate its Performance Build Center to Bowling Green. The improvements continue to modernize the Kentucky factory, which has become a tourist attraction in its own right, as more than 56,000 enthusiasts visited it last year. The upgrades are part of a $5.4-billion investment GM confirmed in April that will remake its US footprint in the next three years. The Bowling Green expansion underscores GM's continued commitment to the Corvette, which sold nearly 38,000 copies around the world last year, an eight-year high. "With this major technology investment, we can continue to exceed the expectations of sports car buyers for years to come," North American manufacturing manager Arvin Jones said in a statement. OTHER NEWS & NOTES Takata recall hits 34 million vehicles The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration expanded the Takata airbag recall to an almost unthinkable 34 million vehicles on Tuesday. The recall is part of an agreement reached by the two sides where Takata admitted some of its airbag inflators have a defect, and the deal compels the company to comply with all future regulatory actions and investigations. Takata's airbag inflators were produced with "a propellant that can degrade over time" and lead to ruptures, NHTSA said. Six deaths have been attributed to the flaw worldwide. Investigations conducted by Takata, automakers, and others have not determined the exact cause of the inflator problem, but NHTSA said moisture appears to alter the propellant's chemical structure. It then ignites too rapidly, creates too much pressure that ruptures the inflator, and blasts shards of metal at passengers.
