I bought this van from the original family because it was in such nice condition. The father had given it to his adult son and his family and I bought it from him. It is an Arizona rust free vehicle since new. I planned to drive it for years and put thousands into it to make it last. I have a large stack of receipts (included with the van) showing all that was done which includes head gaskets, wheel bearings, major A/C upgrades (blows 34 degrees at the vent) trans service, U joints etc. I then had an accident with it and my friend with a restoration shop bought it because it was such a nice clean and good running vehicle and had his 72 year old highly experienced and fussy craftsman restore it. When they took it to the state of AZ to be inspected the inspectors did not want to know where the damage had been. After inspecting the van, they could not tell what area of the vehicle had been damaged. The van needed a hood, right fender and grill/bumper. The air bags did not go off. The vehicle has been meticulously restored and the replacement parts professionally painted. The paint is shiny and matches perfectly. I borrowed it back after it was finished and it drives perfectly. I have had several of these and this one drives as well as any, even as well as the low mileage ones I have had. It has just had an alignment. It has decent tires although I would replace them in maybe 20,000 miles. Note that the van has custom tail lights. It was always a non smoker and the interior is clean. It has an after market stereo with a CD player. It has the optional factory chrome wheels which set it off nicely. It has privacy glass and dual A/C. It resembles a newer Astro and does not look outdated at all. Note the very minor wear spots on the driver's seat back. A vinyl repair guy can repair this very reasonably. The driver's seat bottom was reupholstered in the correct cloth. Note the underside shot, this clean Arizona van has NO rust. Call the owner of the restoration shop (and the van) at 928 ate 53 42 ate 5 for more details. His name is Bruce. This is a dependable and straight van. The last seat is missing, I used this vehicle for work and did not need it. Pay the "Buy it Now" price and we will get one from the local salvage yard and include it. Otherwise, they are readily available for $100.00 or less in most any salvage yard. Bid with confidence, this vehicle will serve you well. It is 70 during the day here in Phoenix, why not fly in and stay a few days and then drive it home?

Consumer Reports criticizes small turbo engines for misleading performance, fuel economy claims [w/video]
Tue, 05 Feb 2013Consumer Reports has taken aim at at small-displacement, forced-induction engines, saying the powerplants don't manage to deliver on automaker fuel economy claims. Manufacturers have long held that smaller, turbocharged engines pack all power of their larger displacement cousins with significantly better fuel economy, but the research organization says that despite scoring high EPA economy numbers, the engines are no better than conventional drivetrains in both categories. Jake Fisher, director of automotive testing for Consumer Reports, says the forced induction options "are often slower and less fuel efficient than larger four and six-cylinder engines."
Specifically, CR calls out the new Ford Fusion equipped with the automaker's Ecoboost 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. The institute's researchers found the engine, which is a $795 option over the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder, fails to match competitors in acceleration and served up 25 miles per gallon in testing, putting the sedan dead last among other midsize options.
The Chevrolet Cruze, Hyundai Sonata Turbo and Ford Escape 2.0T all got dinged for the same troubles, though Consumer Reports has found the turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the BMW 328i does deliver on its promises. You can check out the full press release below. You can also read the full study on the Consumer Reports site, or scroll down for a short video recap.
2014 Chevy Cruze Diesel destined for Chicago debut
Mon, 28 Jan 2013It's been a little over a year and a half since General Motors first confirmed plans to offer a diesel-powered Chevrolet Cruze here in the United States, and we've now learned that the oil-burning compact will debut under the lights of the Chicago Auto Show in February. According to GM Authority, the Cruze Eco-D will be introduced as part of the entire 2014 model year Cruze range, set to go on sale in the second quarter of this year.
Earlier reports have indicated that the diesel Cruze will be able to achieve fuel economy numbers in the range of 50 miles per gallon. For comparison, the similarly sized Volkswagen Jetta TDI is rated at 30/42 mpg city/highway, but as we found out in our long-term test of the 2011 model, hitting 50 mpg was a piece of cake.
Official specifications will be released at the time of the 2014 Cruze's unveiling, though reports have stated that the sedan will be powered by a reworked version of the 2.0-liter turbo-diesel inline-four found in the Holden Cruze CDX overseas. In that application, the four-pot oil-burner produces 160 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque - increases of 20 hp and 29 lb-ft over the 2.0-liter engine used in VW's Jetta TDI.
Next-gen Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra may use carbon fiber
Thu, Dec 7 2017It's been generally accepted that the next generation of full-size GM trucks will use some sort of strong, lightweight material for the beds while retaining steel for the cab. While aluminum seems like the most obvious choice, according to Automotive News, the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra will incorporate both aluminum and carbon fiber in their beds. The publication cites sources from within GM, though it seems the introduction of this comparatively exotic material mix is still a few years off. While carbon fiber is both stronger and lighter than steel and aluminum, it takes significantly more time and money to produce, essentially relegating the material to small-volume cars. The main benefit for trucks is the resulting reduction in weight to improve fuel economy without sacrificing the tough, rugged capabilities truck buyers expect. The Ford F-150 made the switch to aluminum for the 2015 model year and it's proved highly successful. It seemed like it was only a matter of time before the competition followed suit. Automotive News says that the next-gen trucks will launch with aluminum beds and that it will take a couple of years before we'll see any carbon fiber incorporated into the design. Even then, only look for the composite material on higher-trim models, with a trickle down to lower-spec trucks possible further in the future. In 2011, GM announced it was working with Japan-based Teijin Limited on a carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic. There's a good chance that material's introduction will be on trucks.
