2003 Chevrolet Venture Ls Mini Passenger Van 4-door 3.4l Extended Work Van on 2040-cars
Summerville, South Carolina, United States
Up for auction is my 2003 Chevy Venture long wheel base van with 112,674 miles. I've owned this van for the last 7 years. It was originally an 8 passenger vehicle used as our family van for transporting my children. Two years ago, I converted it to a 5 passenger work van for my business. I removed the third row seating and installed some shelving for tools and an inexpensive, bolt-on ladder rack. This has been a reliable vehicle for us. The two biggest issues are the large amounts of rust on both rocker panels and a leak in the AC line that runs to the rear AC unit. Last year, the AC was not running cold. I filled the system with refrigerant and it worked great. However, the next day, it was not cold again. I took the van to an AC shop. They verified that the compressor and front lines were fine. However, the refrigerant was leaking from a line to the rear unit. This left two options for repair. The first was to replace the rear AC lines. This was rather expensive. The second was to install a block off kit to the rear lines. This would eliminate the rear AC from working, but allow the front unit to operate correctly. These can be found on eBay for about $75.00 Here is the eBay item number to an example. 171062958346 Other than these two items, the van functions well. I was originally going to correct the issue with a block off kit this spring. However, I decided to purchase a full size van for my business instead. I have all the seats that were removed and they will come with the vehicle. All four tires have lots of life on them and an additional complete set of four more good tires is included as well. Please look at the photos and ask any questions that you may have. Vehicle is sold as is and has no warranty of any type. Year: 2003 Mileage: 112,674 Local pick up in Summerville, SC 29483 only. I will accept cash or a certified bank check only for this purchase. |

EcoCar2 is on the hunt for a better, cleaner Chevy Malibu [w/video]
Thu, Jun 12 2014The students spent three years transforming an ordinary Chevy Malibu into a revolutionary vehicle. Not far from the building where General Motors once invented the Chevy Volt, a dozen or so college students are standing on the blacktop alongside a test track, watching a professional driver push the limits of a plug-in hybrid car they've built that's far more radical. These students, from Colorado State University, have spent the past three years transforming an ordinary Chevy Malibu into a revolutionary vehicle. At first glance, it still looks like a regular sedan. But under the hood, they've installed a hybrid powertrain that contains both hydrogen and electric power sources. Even by the standards of the Department of Energy competition they're participating in, it's an outlier. That's exactly what they had in mind. "We didn't want to come here and tell them how to build a better Volt," said Tom Bradley, faculty adviser for the Colorado State team. "They already know how to do that. We can tell them how to think about these possibilities in a whole new way." After three years of work, it all comes down to this. The Colorado State team was one of 15 that came to GM's Milford Proving Grounds last week for the final stretch of the EcoCar2 competition, which challenges regular college students who have no automotive experience to do nothing less than reinvent the American car. The teams have come from across North America, and include schools like Ohio State and Virginia Tech that have a long history of participating in similar competitions, and schools like the University of Washington and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University that are here for the first time. After three years of work, it all comes down to this. The teams have operated 24 hours a day for almost two weeks here at the Proving Grounds, running a gamut of tests that include a 310-point safety inspection, emissions and energy-consumption tests and road tests, in which professional GM drivers ensure they're road worthy. The winning team will be announced tonight in Washington D.C. Revolutionary cars, ordinary package While other green-car competitions encourage extreme designs, this one comes with a somewhat constraining twist: Yes, students must improve fuel economy and reduce emissions, but in the end, they still have to have a car that would appeal to mainstream customers. In practical terms, that means they must keep conveniences like air conditioning and trunk space.

GM cutting Chevy Sonic, Buick Verano production [UPDATE]
Sun, Jan 25 2015UPDATE: A previous version of this story indicated that Orion Assembly would be idled for seven weeks, from February 16 through April 6. This was incorrect. The factory will instead only be idled for the weeks of February 16 and April 6. The story has been edited to reflect this. General Motors has announced that the factory responsible for the Buick Verano and Chevrolet Sonic will be idled for the weeks of February 16 and April 6, with blame being placed on excess supply. The Orion Assembly plant, about 45 minutes north of GM's Renaissance Center headquarters, employs about 1,800 people, but they'll be given a pair of furloughs as inventories of the sub-compact Sonic and premium compact Verano reach 127 days and 84 days, respectively. That works out to 26,600 Chevys and 9,800 Buicks waiting for buyers. According to Automotive News, the compact Chevy sales bested the industry average in 2014, jumping up nine percent versus the the overall segment's eight-percent gain, while the Buick sedan's sales were down four percent. When asked about the shutdown, a GM spokesman told AN that it will "build to market demand," while also pointing out that the company did not comment on production plans.
