Are you really prepared for Doomsday?

Hunkered down in a bunker is no way to prepare.  A bunker is great for home base but to survive you need to be mobile.  A mobile command center should be stout, easy to maintain, built for battle, and capable of going anywhere.

The Business end…

  1. Terrain-topping

To provide a mild amount of clearance without getting too top heavy is a 4 inch lift with extra shock absorbers for a comfortable street ride with good off-road clearance.

Built for mud and off-roading are 33” Super Swampers, sipped for good traction on-road.

  2. Exoskeleton

Integrated around this mammoth vehicle is a complete roll cage exoskeleton for storage, rigidity, and looks.  Storage for a spare tire, shovel & axe, and high-lift jack are built-in for easy-to-grab accessibility.

LED lighting for front and sides light your pathway or blind your enemy while drawing very low voltage from your battery.

The exo is finished using urethane paint just like Caterpillars.  Though it is not powder coated, it is the next best thing and holds up to the most abrasive pressure washer for easy cleaning.

  3. Recon Vehicle Accessibility

Mounted atop the roll cage… a 3500# Mile Marker winch and two 10’ aluminum folding ramps for easy loading and unloading of your recon quad.                     It holds a quad?  Yes, store your recon four-wheeler or even two dirt bikes atop this beast of a machine.

Remote mounted power and winch control makes this an easy-to-use recon storage vehicle.

Not storing a quad?  Use the included snatch block and rings to increase your line pull to 7000# and use it to pull cars onto your car trailer.

  4. Remote 12000# Winch Mount

What good is a fixed-mount winch if it’s in the front and I need to pull from the rear…or mounted in the rear and I need to pull from the front?

Ever used a winch and struggled to pull that downed tree or heap-of-crap car out of the way only for the truck to be dragged to the junk rather than it dragging the junk out?

We thought of that and included the solution to both issues:  A Mile Marker 12000# winch with 4 easy mounting locations so you can move the winch where you need it.  Think you are pulling a caged suburban sideways, think again!

But the winch is too heavy to just move it around… both the 3500# and 12000# winch are strung with synthetic cable making these light enough for your grandma to move.

  5. Heavy Artillery Mount

As seen on Doomsday Garage, this was built to hold a .50cal machine gun.  The gun is not included with the purchase, nor is the pintle mount cradle for it.  Add your own pintle mount and you are set for whatever bang-bang you equip the truck with.

So how do I fire it on top the vehicle? A sunroof and reinforced steel console were added for quick access to the Artillery System.  Open the roof, jump on the console, and spray in whatever direction you need.

  6. Tool and Supply Containers

Making use of the abundance of storage provided by the cage, 30mm ammo cans for tools or dry storage are easily assessable from the driver side.

Also included with the truck are 4 jerry cans capable of holding a total of 20 gallons of fuel making useful storage of a needed commodity.  These are coated new, never used cans complete with spouts for each can.

Why not use the hood for storage.  Mounted to the hood are two large shallow 2” baskets for holding weather-resistant materials like tarps, rope, chain, and cable.

  7. Power replenishing

Beneath the massive hood baskets are solar panels setup to continuously trickle charge the two deep cycle batteries.  Both batteries are new and provide plenty of power for the truck and all accessories included.  Because of the power upgrade, a new alternator was installed to ensure it was up to the challenge.

What’s on the inside…

  1. Fresh water storage

A 44 gallon aluminum water tank for holding fresh water is conveniently built-in to replace the spare tire well.  An external hose bib mount beneath the quarter panel makes for easy disbursement of water on demand.

  2. Bed Slide Storage System

Dual sliding racks for storage of dry goods is made easy with the caster equipped rolling bed slides.  The lower slide is perfectly designed to hold ammo cans in both directions and is carpet padded to prevent scratching from excess wear.  The top rack slides independently of the bottom and is useful for large lighter items and makes for easy retrieval of goods rather than climbing into the back.

Aside the bed slide is an abundance of space still remaining for storing food, camping supplies, survival tools, or equipment.

  3. Gun Racks and Safe

Located within the lockable, reinforced console is a mount for two long guns and a couple ammo cans.  Above the passenger bench seat is an overhead mount capable of holding two more long guns.  Because the rear windows are fixed, why not make good storage space out of the lower portion of the barn doors?  Wait, we did…just beneath each rear window are locking safes for holding guns, ammo, or important documents.

  4. Additional features

                    CB radio

                    Huge Bestek power inverter

                    Mud tracker floor mats

                    Kenwood CD player

Mile Marker accessory bag with gloves, chain, strap, and winch accessories

 Vehicle Condition and flaws

The Suburban is in great condition given the mileage.  The paint is about 2 years old and still shines like new if you are willing to give it a wax.  No dent or dings in the body.  No rust or rust repair needed or performed.

A recent tune-up was performed before driving this bad-boy from Washington to Arizona.  Included was:

                New Batteries and Alternator

                New Spark plugs and wires

                K&N Air Filter

                Throttle Body Spacer

                Radiator Flush and Fill

                Oil Change

New rebuilt 700r4 transmission from ATransmissions.com

                New fuel filter

                Added trans temp gauge

                New belts and hoses

The interior overall is in fantastic shape with no rips or tears on the seats.  Here are the flaws:

  • The dash has some cracking due to sun age but it is easily covered with a cheap dash pad.

  • The passenger door lock switch does not work but the lock does, as does the driver power door lock switch.

  • Cruise control is also not working but that is probably a minor item.

  • The radio is a bit finicky and stops working for a minute or two from time to time.

  • The new CB is not wired in but it is brand new and works fine.

  • The seatbelts get stuck a little when pulling them out.  Not a real flaw and normal for a vehicle of this age but it pisses me off from time to time so I am listing it under flaws.

  • A/C blows cool but needs a recharge to blow cold.  That is the same for both front and rear AC

That is about it… this is solid, runs great, shifts even better, looks badass, and is ready for most any scenario you could throw at it.  With the recent engine mods, I saw MPG of 13 on the freeway from WA to AZ…not too shabby for a truck this heavy.

Email with questions….

I am willing to consider most any trade vehicles, bang-bang, tools and other with cash.  There is over 20K in parts and 10k in labor added onto this truck worth about $3500 stock so please don’t low ball.    I don’t need to sell this; I just want some extra funds for my other projects and am already working on Doomsday Commando part II.

Pictures show Burb in Yellow and Gray.  TV show required yellow paint, it was removed and sprayed light gun metal gray using urethane paint as mentioned above.

I will include a DVD copy of the show if you would like to have it.

GM Recalling Another 2.7 Million Vehicles In Five Separate Campaigns

Thu, May 15 2014

The recalls keep rolling in from General Motors, evidently keen to avoid repeating the mistakes of the ignition-switch debacle and clean house. This time they're all coming at once, with five separate recalls announced together covering approximately 2.7 million vehicles. The largest of the five actions involves over 2.4 million units of the previous-generation Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura in order to fix brake light wiring harness, which have been found to be susceptible to corrosion. The recall is separate from the 56k Aura sedans which GM recently recalled over faulty shift cables, not to mention the previous massive recall of 1.3 million vehicles – some of them the same models – but appears to have resulted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that started with the G6 almost a year ago. The second-largest campaign involves the 2014 Chevy Malibu, specifically those fitted with GM's 2.5-liter engine and stop/start system, approximately 140,000 examples of which has been found to have problematic brakes. The issue does not appear to be connected to the recall of 8k Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans (also involving brake woes) which we reported upon last week. Four crashes have been reported in such models, but GM admits it's not yet clear if the problem was a contributing factor in the accidents. A further 112k Corvette models from the 2005-2007 model years are being called in for problems with their low-beam headlamps resulting from a flexing relay control circuit wire that's not meant to bend. GM says it is "aware of several hundred complaints" about this issue, but notes that there have been no reports of related accidents. In addition, over 19k examples of Cadillac CTS from the 2013 and 2014 model years are being recalled over windshield wipers that might not work after a jump start. Finally, GM is also bringing in 477 examples of its 2014 Chevy Silverado, Tahoe and GMC Sierra (though not the Yukon) to fix a problem with a tie rod in its steering rack. As ever, all recall repairs will be performed free of charge, and GM is now estimating that recall-related actions this quarter will result in an estimated $200-million charge against its second-quarter earnings. Read the full announcement from GM below for further details.

2015 Chevy Tahoe gets Police Patrol Vehicle treatment

Thu, 07 Nov 2013

That was fast. Mere days after showing a Police Concept based on the 2015 Tahoe at the SEMA Show, Chevrolet has announced that it will build a PPV model based on the SUV to do battle with the Ford Police Interceptor Utility (Explorer) and Dodge Durango Special Service.
You'll recall that the Tahoe has been police staple for several years, predating both the Explorer and Durango police variants, so the fact that the new model would spawn a police variant is hardly surprising. Like the civilian model, the 2015 PPV benefits from a more efficient 5.3-liter, direct-injection V8 that pumps out 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. It also features more high-strength steel, offering better crash protection, on top of optional safety items like lane departure warning, forward collision alert and a Safety Alert Seat.
The press release is rather light on police-specific items, aside from the auxiliary battery, which keeps the myriad of electronics in a modern police car running even when the engine isn't. Lightbars, 17-inch steel wheels on Goodyear Eagle RS-A tires and a push bar round out the mods for the Tahoe PPV. The cabin features a revised center console and room for laptop and other equipment mounts.

Race Recap: 2013 Twelve Hours of Sebring, cakewalk up front, grindfest out back [w/spoilers]

Tue, 19 Mar 2013

This year's 12 Hours of Sebring wasn't exactly a foregone conclusion because we're still talking about racing, and anything can happen when the speeds are as high as the adrenaline and the desire. But we're still talking about Audi bringing it's two top-spec racers - and its huge budget and its nearly neurotic attention to detail - to a race that it uses as a test bed for The 24 Hours of Le Mans and as a way to open the endurance racing season with a victory.
Besides, 12 hours is a long time, especially at Sebring, and things didn't go all Audi's way. On top of that, although it was a pretty quiet race, behind the Audis things got even grimier, with plenty of battles, plenty of mechanical issues, and the new BMW Z4 GTE and Viper GTS-R being race tested. Oh, and that brand new chromed-out DeltaWing...
