This is a really good diesel suburban, offered for a very fair price. It is a reluctant sale due to an upcoming overseas move. I am the second owner. When I purchased it 10 months ago. It was already in really nice clean shape, with about 161,000 miles. Just what you would expect from a one owner california vehicle. I looked at over 10 diesel suburbans before I bought this one. It was easily the nicest I saw. Very stock. Even though it ran well, because I was planning to keep for 10 years, and because I often travel to relatively remote areas with my wife and child, I took it to a well-known 4x4 repair shop and asked them to inspect it and to fix anything at all that they could find even slightly needing attention. Those repairs plus subsequent tires and AC repairs came to about $5000. Apart from the front tires and brake pad, and the AC, which did not blow cold and needed repairing, these were all optional repairs, the kind that most owners let go and drive around until something breaks (or they put it up for sale.) This suburban needs nothing, beside maybe a nicer stereo, and if you are fussy, re-upholstered front seats and the paint cleaned up above the wind screen and on the left side of the hood. The result is a low miles original condition diesel suburban that is extremely reliable, looks good, gets decent gas milage, will go anywhere, is good in all weather. It starts easily every time, drives well, all the electrical work, and stops well. Being a California car its whole life, it does not have the structural rust issues resulting from salted roads.

This one is in much better shape than you will typically see for sale. They are quite rare in this condition, and I would never sell if I was not moving. Both my buy-it-now and minimum price are very reasonable, and as I said this is a forced sale.

Some considerations:
• Low miles Good maintenance history.
• Great original engine and transmission
• No known noticeable oil leaks
• No blow-by or smoking from the engine. No overheating issues of any kind
• 4x4 hi and low and transmission work great
• Paint is original and shiny. Has some clear coat peeling at the front of the hood, and a small rust bubble above the wind shield
• No accident or rust issues (note: I just looked at the autocheck which cites an accident in 2006. I find that to be surprising/unlikely. It must have been exceptionally minor and/or repaired very well as there is no indication of it. I ran a carfax when I purchased the vehicle, and it reported no accident. I trust carfax more than autocheck. I just added a photo of the carfax I ran when I initially purchased the rig.
• Clean interior. Leather. The front seats both have some wear/tearing to the leather where you sit on it - but they still function fine. Everything else in interior is good.
• Good gas milage. I usually got 18mpg+ on the freeway
• Great front tires - Goodrich T/A's with about 4000 miles. The rear tires are worn but safe. They will need replacing in less than 5000 miles
• Very good air conditioning. Blows Ice cold. I had the compressor, refrigeration tower replaced with new items. I had the entire system inspected and a couple of small leaks repaired. The rear AC also works great.
• I had a good quality remote PMD installed (from angeofishes on ebay) - important as the factory position near the exhaust manifold risks it overheating and the engine stalling.
• I have receipts for repairs. These include a new thermostat, front brake pads, replace all turbo gaskets and oil return lines, replace idler arms, pitman arms, adjust steering box and tie rods and align wheels, replace turbo solenoid, replace fuel lines and reseal intake gasket (a big job, most diesel suburbans have an air leak somewhere in the fuel delivery system), relocate and mount new pmd module, transfer case replaced and re-sealed at transmission (it had a tiny hairline fracture), AC repair and re-charge, glow plugs removed and cleaned. The copy of the invoice I included is for most but not all the work I had performed, but it does support what I am saying
• All electrical switches, power locks and windows, cruise, indicators, lights, temperature controls, fans, wipers, and switches all work (as of me writing this.)
• This is my third suburban. I have had two 5.7 4x4 1500 gasoline engine suburbans. I liked them very well, and did many miles in both of them, but the 6.5L diesel 2500, when running well, as this one is, is just a pleasure to drive - super reliable, economical on gas, tons of low end torque, happy to literally sit all day at 2500 rpm and 75mph. It is a better engine than the 5.7L and not a gas hog like the 454.
• For California residents, no smog is needed ever, which a a nice bonus.

Please feel free to email me through ebay or at bill575@airpost.net if you have any questions. All information is described to the best of my ability. Also for sale locally, if it sells locally, I will cancel this auction, so buy-it-now is suggested if you are serious. Milage may increase is the vehicle is driven. I have the title in my possession, there are no liens, and no salvage or any other weird issues. I am looking for an easy smooth sale.

Here included some links to some videos I made that describe the vehicle and show it running and provide more details about the condition:

Next Chevrolet Malibu to have 'groundbreaking,' 'passionate' design

Mon, Dec 29 2014

In our First Drive of the Chevrolet Malibu after its redesign in 2013 we wrote, "Chevy has quickly worked up a host of changes for its ever-important midsize sedan, and will be launching this 'there, we fixed it' 2014 Malibu like it's an all-new product." Still, no one cared. The Malibu has been mentioned in eight posts this year, all but two of them dealt with recalls, and one of those two was about a 2011 Malibu university science project. It came up in precisely zero posts from November 2013 to March 2014. That's why, according to a report in Automotive News, Chevrolet honchos are "hustling" to have a new Malibu ready in a year. Mark Reuss, General Motors' head of global product development, said it will have "groundbreaking design" and "groundbreaking technology," and asked investors who were showed a picture of it, "When is the last time you saw a [midsize] car this distinctive and this dramatic from General Motors?" Doubling down on the bullishness, Reuss said, "We've got our act together here on the midsize-car segment." Then, throwing every last chip on the pile, global design head Ed Welburn said the next Malibu's design will "make a significant statement" with "a very passionate design." Based on the number of comments Malibu posts get, we figure a fair few number of you would love for this to be the case; yet this is a lot of braggadocio to slather on a car that probably hasn't made "a significant statement" since Elton John had a number one record with Honky Chateau. That was 1972, if you're trying to remember. No matter the looks, the AN report says the new 'Bu will make a profit statement, selling for more money while costing less to produce. Alongside the Cruze, GM figures the pair will bring in an extra $800 million in variable profit in 2016. Which, in case it ends up being another 'butterface,' isn't bad for a silver lining. EcoCar2 is on the hunt for a better, cleaner Chevy Malibu [w/video]

Thu, Jun 12 2014

The students spent three years transforming an ordinary Chevy Malibu into a revolutionary vehicle. Not far from the building where General Motors once invented the Chevy Volt, a dozen or so college students are standing on the blacktop alongside a test track, watching a professional driver push the limits of a plug-in hybrid car they've built that's far more radical. These students, from Colorado State University, have spent the past three years transforming an ordinary Chevy Malibu into a revolutionary vehicle. At first glance, it still looks like a regular sedan. But under the hood, they've installed a hybrid powertrain that contains both hydrogen and electric power sources. Even by the standards of the Department of Energy competition they're participating in, it's an outlier. That's exactly what they had in mind. "We didn't want to come here and tell them how to build a better Volt," said Tom Bradley, faculty adviser for the Colorado State team. "They already know how to do that. We can tell them how to think about these possibilities in a whole new way." After three years of work, it all comes down to this. The Colorado State team was one of 15 that came to GM's Milford Proving Grounds last week for the final stretch of the EcoCar2 competition, which challenges regular college students who have no automotive experience to do nothing less than reinvent the American car. The teams have come from across North America, and include schools like Ohio State and Virginia Tech that have a long history of participating in similar competitions, and schools like the University of Washington and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University that are here for the first time. After three years of work, it all comes down to this. The teams have operated 24 hours a day for almost two weeks here at the Proving Grounds, running a gamut of tests that include a 310-point safety inspection, emissions and energy-consumption tests and road tests, in which professional GM drivers ensure they're road worthy. The winning team will be announced tonight in Washington D.C. Revolutionary cars, ordinary package While other green-car competitions encourage extreme designs, this one comes with a somewhat constraining twist: Yes, students must improve fuel economy and reduce emissions, but in the end, they still have to have a car that would appeal to mainstream customers. In practical terms, that means they must keep conveniences like air conditioning and trunk space.

2022 Genesis GV70, raging at VW ID.4 tech and thoughts on a new Lexus LFA | Autoblog Podcast #696

Fri, Sep 17 2021

In this episode of the Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by Senior Editor James Riswick. This week, they talk about driving the Genesis GV70, VW ID.4 and VW Taos. They talk about ways Chevy could "fix" the Camaro. James ranked all the James Bond films based solely on their starring cars. Next, they reach in the mailbag and discuss the question, "Do you think Lexus will make a successor to the LFA and, if so, what do you guys think it would be like?" After ruminating on that query, they dip into the mailbag a second time to recommend a sporty crossover to a listener in this week's Spend My Money segment.
