Super Rare 1962 Chevrolet One Ton Dually Step Side - Not Silverado 3500 on 2040-cars
Mountain Home, Texas, United States
Notice, THIS ISN'T A SILVERADO, BUT I COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO LIST IT OTHERWISE. NOW FOR THE TRUCK. ........................ THIS TRUCK STARTED LIFE AS A PTO WRECKER AT A PONTIAC DEALERSHIP IN ALBUQUERQUE, NM. I TOOK IT ON TRADE, WITH ALL THE WRECKER PARTS WORKING & USED IT QUITE A BIT. FINALLY I GOT ALL MY STUFF MOVED AROUND & IT BECAME APPARENT THAT THE TRUCK WOULD BE MUCH MORE USEFUL TO ME AS A PICKUP. I REMOVED THE WRECKER UNIT AND ELIMINATED THE 18" SPLIT RIM WHEELS, IN FAVOR OF THE 16" WHEELS THAT ARE IN IT. TO DO THAT IT REQUIRED THE REAR END BE REPLACED WITH A LATER MODEL, 1995 I THINK, IN ORDER FOR THE REAR WHEELS TO FIT OVER THE DRUM. I STILL HAVE THE WRECKER PARTS, COMPLETE WITH THE DOLLYS, TO MOVE A VEHICLE IF IT WON'T ROLL ON ITS OWN. THE NEW OWNER CAN HAVE ALL THAT TO GO WITH THE TRUCK IF YOU WANT IT. OTHERWISE, I'LL SELL IT SEPARATELY. THE ENGINE IS A 283 V-8, AND SHOWS 70000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. THE SPEEDOMETER WORKS (needle swings at first) BUT THE ODOMETER QUIT WORKING SOON AFTER IT WENT TO THE OWNER WHO PRECEDED ME. THAT OWNER HAD A BODY SHOP IN ALBUQUERQUE, AND USED IT A FEW YEARS AFTER HAVING BOUGHT IT FROM A NEW CAR PONTIAC DEALERSHIP, WHERE IT SERVED SINCE IT WAS NEW. AFTER I GOT THE TRUCK, AND DID ALL THE STUFF WE DO, LIKE PLUGGS, POINTS, CONDENSER, ROTAR ETC, IT DRIVES LIKE A DREAM. THE LATER MODEL DIFFERENTIAL, 16" WHEELS & RADIAL TIRES CAUSES IT TO CRUSE AT 60 TO 65 VERY COMFORTABLY. THE GRANNY LOW GEAR IS OCCASIONALLY USEFUL, BUT MOSTLY I SKIP LOW GEAR. THE EXHAUST SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. ITS OLD. OH YES, I REPLACED THE GENERATOR WITH AN ALTERNATOR. THIS IS PRETTY ORIGINAL BECAUSE THE ENGINE STILL HAS THE OIL BATH AIR FILTER, AND THE CARTRIDGE TYPE OIL FILTER. I ALWAYS HAVE TO GO TO CAR QUEST TO GET MY OIL FILTER BEFORE I GET THE OIL CHANGED. THE BED IS SOMETHING THAT I NEVER HAVE SEEN BEFORE. INSIDE DIMENSIONS ARE 9 1/2 long, and 5 1/2 FEET WIDE, WITH THE WHEEL WELLS INSIDE & OUTSIDE. I REMOVED 5 LEAF SPRINGS FROM EACH SIDE AND THERES STILL 5 ON EACH SIDE. SO FAR, IVE NEVER OVER LOADED IT SINCE I REMOVED THE SPRINGS. I WAS AFRAID THE WHEELS WOULD RUB, AS CAN BE SEEN IN A PICTURE, BUT SO FAR THEY'VE NEVER RUBBED. THE OLD BED WAS ROTTED OUT SO I REPLACED IT WITH TREATED 2X6. THE BODY ON THIS TRUCK HAS HAD SOME BONDO REPAIRS, BUT I ONLY FOUND ONE PLACE. THE BODY WAS PAINTED AT LEAST ONCE, AND I'd CONSIDER THIS A PRETTY STRAIT BODY, AS THEY GO. THE ONLY RUST THROUGH IS A SMALL HOLE JUST INSIDE OF THE DRIVERS FLOOR WHERE WET FEET TRACKED WATER & SNOW IN. ONE THING IS CERTAIN WITH THIS TRUCK. IT TURNS HEADS. EVEN THE GUYS WHO KNOW TRUCKS, WANTS TO GET A CLOSER LOOK. THIS TRUCK IS LISTED LOCALLY & THE AUCTION IS SUBJECT TO BEING TERMINATED AT ANY TIME. 2014 Chevy Cruze Diesel destined for Chicago debut
Mon, 28 Jan 2013It's been a little over a year and a half since General Motors first confirmed plans to offer a diesel-powered Chevrolet Cruze here in the United States, and we've now learned that the oil-burning compact will debut under the lights of the Chicago Auto Show in February. According to GM Authority, the Cruze Eco-D will be introduced as part of the entire 2014 model year Cruze range, set to go on sale in the second quarter of this year.
Earlier reports have indicated that the diesel Cruze will be able to achieve fuel economy numbers in the range of 50 miles per gallon. For comparison, the similarly sized Volkswagen Jetta TDI is rated at 30/42 mpg city/highway, but as we found out in our long-term test of the 2011 model, hitting 50 mpg was a piece of cake.
Official specifications will be released at the time of the 2014 Cruze's unveiling, though reports have stated that the sedan will be powered by a reworked version of the 2.0-liter turbo-diesel inline-four found in the Holden Cruze CDX overseas. In that application, the four-pot oil-burner produces 160 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque - increases of 20 hp and 29 lb-ft over the 2.0-liter engine used in VW's Jetta TDI.
A car writer's year in new vehicles [w/video]
Thu, Dec 18 2014Christmas is only a week away. The New Year is just around the corner. As 2014 draws to a close, I'm not the only one taking stock of the year that's we're almost shut of. Depending on who you are or what you do, the end of the year can bring to mind tax bills, school semesters or scheduling dental appointments. For me, for the last eight or nine years, at least a small part of this transitory time is occupied with recalling the cars I've driven over the preceding 12 months. Since I started writing about and reviewing cars in 2006, I've done an uneven job of tracking every vehicle I've been in, each year. Last year I made a resolution to be better about it, and the result is a spreadsheet with model names, dates, notes and some basic facts and figures. Armed with this basic data and a yen for year-end stories, I figured it would be interesting to parse the figures and quantify my year in cars in a way I'd never done before. The results are, well, they're a little bizarre, honestly. And I think they'll affect how I approach this gig in 2015. {C} My tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015 it'll be as high as 73. Let me give you a tiny bit of background about how automotive journalists typically get cars to test. There are basically two pools of vehicles I drive on a regular basis: media fleet vehicles and those available on "first drive" programs. The latter group is pretty self-explanatory. Journalists are gathered in one location (sometimes local, sometimes far-flung) with a new model(s), there's usually a day of driving, then we report back to you with our impressions. Media fleet vehicles are different. These are distributed to publications and individual journalists far and wide, and the test period goes from a few days to a week or more. Whereas first drives almost always result in a piece of review content, fleet loans only sometimes do. Other times they serve to give context about brands, segments, technology and the like, to editors and writers. So, adding up the loans I've had out of the press fleet and things I've driven at events, my tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015, it'll be as high as 73. At one of the buff books like Car and Driver or Motor Trend, reviewers might rotate through five cars a week, or more. I know that number sounds high, but as best I can tell, it's pretty average for the full-time professionals in this business.
Weekly Recap: Revisting the BBC report that ended Jeremy Clarkson's Top Gear run
Sat, Mar 28 2015Jeremy Clarkson's long run as a Top Gear host has come to an end, and the reason is clear: His physical assault on one of the show's producers crossed a line, and the government-owned BBC couldn't tolerate it. The incident between Clarkson and Top Gear producer Oisin Tymon was initially described as a "fracas," and Clarkson was suspended. But his popularity and widespread support – even British Prime Minister David Cameron weighed in – suggested that the controversial Clarkson might be given yet another chance. The BBC put this to rest Wednesday when it sacked Clarkson and revealed the findings of its investigation. The report spelled out how Clarkson struck Tymon on the patio of a North Yorkshire (UK) hotel, leaving him with a bloodied, swollen lip. It was severe enough that the producer sought medical treatment. During and after the attack, Clarkson shouted expletives at Tymon and threatened to fire him. The noise carried into the hotel's dining room and even to a bedroom. Local police investigated the incident, but Tymon isn't pressing charges. The huge audience numbers, Clarkson's popularity and the high-octane excitement of Top Gear all melted away in the eyes of BBC director-general Tony Hall, who saw an attacker and a victim. "For me a line has been crossed," he said in a statement. "There cannot be one rule for one and one rule for another dictated by either rank, or public relations and commercial considerations." In that moment, Clarkson was the bad guy, though he was actually the one who reported it to the network and made repeated attempts to apologize to Tymon. He's also urged the media to leave the producer alone. Hall voiced regret in the statement that announced Clarkson's contract would not be renewed, but the BBC decided to move on. Rumors are swirling about possible replacements for Clarkson. The network says it wants to continue Top Gear in 2016 and is looking to air the rest of this season's episodes. Despite the controversy, the show has a global audience of 350 million viewers and is one of the BBC's most valuable properties. It's unclear what Clarkson's co-hosts, James May and Richard Hammond, will do, as their contracts were also reportedly up to be renewed.
