1991 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Long bed 4x4.

Only 92,078 Original Miles

This was literally "Grandpa's Truck."  I bought the truck from an elderly woman who's husband had passed away.  She told me he used the truck mainly to pull his little fishing boat to the lake.  She said they bought the truck in 1998 and only put 7,000 miles on it in 15 years.  It was purchased new at Chapman Chevrolet in Payson, Arizona.  The original owners manual is in the glove box.

The truck runs and drives very strong.  Starts right up and idles very smoothly.  The running gear and transfer case is solid.  Shifts into four wheel drive effortlessly and steering is tight.  It drives down the road very straight.  No wobbles.  The body and interior is near immaculate.  Has the original AM/FM/Stereo Cassette which works great.  No cracks in the dash and no holes in the split bench seat or headliner.  The door panels are still like new.  It has manual windows and door locks.  Windshield and windows are in excellent condition.  Has a slider rear window.  Both doors shut tight.  All original sheet metal and trim all the way around.  Has towing package and electric trailer brakes.  Brakes are nice and tight.  The truck had a camper on it for years, so the bed was hardly used (just light scratches and marks from the camper shell).  Arizona truck...so NO rust in the body. There are some minor paint and trim blemishes which I have tried to show in the photos (just a little fading and some peeling and light chips).  Also a minor ding behind the rear bumper (see photo).  Has new windshield wipers, back up bulbs, and floor mats.  Full service was done less then 20 miles ago.  Looks to be the original spare and hardware underneath.  Has original jack.

These may not be that important to you, but just want to be honest about the truck.  It needs 2 bulbs for the license plate (I will buy and include the bulbs).  On the carpet (under the passenger side floor mat, there is a round burn mark)...looks like someone placed something hot there and it burned the carpet.  It is not noticeable with the floor mat over it.  The driver's side mirror (glass) is cracked.  The AC needs to be charged.  I will throw in the 134A recharge kit that I bought to convert the AC...easy to do.  Heater works great!  It will need new tires (tires have some cracks).  The muffler is in tact just has some corrosion...does not affect how the truck runs.   The brake light on the dash stays on...could just be a fuse.  All very minor things for a 22 year old pickup.

This is a really nice truck.  These are getting harder to find in this condition and with lower miles.  Usually they have been beat up and have high miles or were used for work trucks.  The old man loved this pickup and took good care of it.  Would look great lifted up, or even keep as is.  With a new set of tires, I would not hesitate to drive it to the East Coast right now.

There is no warranty implied or otherwise.  It is a gently used truck and is not perfect, but is in excellent condition.  Buyer is responsible for shipping.  Thanks for looking.

Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado, Toyota Tundra flunk IIHS headlight test

Tue, Oct 25 2016

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety put pickup truck headlights to the test and found that the majority of them were equipped with subpar units. The 2017 Honda Ridgeline was the only truck to earn a rating of "good." The large pickup truck test was comprised of the: 2016 to 2017 GMC Sierra, 2017 Nissan Titan, 2016 Ram 1500, 2016 to 2017 Chevrolet Silverado, 2016 to 2017 Ford F-150, and 2016 to 2017 Toyota Tundra. The Sierra's headlights earned a rating of "acceptable," the headlights found on the Titan and Ram 1500 were found to be "marginal," and the ones on the Silverado, F-150, and Tundra were rated as "poor." IIHS claims the F-150 was the most disappointing out of the large pickup trucks as both its halogen and optional LED headlights failed to provide adequate visibility during testing. The Ridgeline (which earned a "good rating"), is usually considered a midsize or small truck, though IIHS included it in the field of large pickups. The headlights on the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado, 2016 GMC Canyon, 2016 Nissan Frontier, and 2016 to 2017 Toyota Tacoma, which made up the small pickup truck group, all earned a rating of "poor." The IIHS claimed the Colorado had the worst headlights of any truck that was tested, as the base vehicle's units were only able to illuminate up to 123 feet in front of the car. The Ridgeline's headlights, for reference, were able to illuminate up to 358 feet in front of the vehicle. To conduct its test, the IIHS utilizes a special tool to measure how far light is projected out of the headlights in different driving situations. The trucks' headlights were tested in a straight line and in corners, while vehicles with high-beam assist were given extra praise. The headlights on the pickup trucks also mimic the testing that was done on small SUVs and cars earlier this year. Next year, automakers will need to fit their vehicles with headlights that earn a rating of either good or acceptable to earn the IIHS Top Safety Pick+. Related Video:

2020 Chevy Corvette Stingray vs the world: How it compares on paper

Mon, Jul 22 2019

The 2020 Chevy Corvette Stingray in its base form offers an astonishing amount of performance for the money. In fact, so impressive is the car's spec sheet that the Corvette kind of exists in two different competitive sets: one of cars priced similarly, and another with cars of similar performance and reputation. To get a feel for how it handles each of these segments, we've compiled specifications for those two sets of players. You can find the first set below, which looks at cars of roughly the same price point. Following that is a bit of analysis, and then there's a chart of cars with similar performance and reputation. And that chart will also have some analysis. Though final pricing for the Corvette hasn't been announced yet, we know the Corvette will start at less than $60,000. And as far as pricing goes, its closest competitor is the Porsche 718 Cayman, which also starts at just under $60,000. Both are mid-engined and rear-drive, but the Corvette offers an extra 195 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque. The Cayman does boast a curb weight of right around 3,000 pounds, so it weighs a few hundred pounds less than the Corvette, but it's likely not enough to make up for the power deficit. The Corvette's sub-3.0-second 0-60 time bears this out against the Cayman's best 4.5-second run. Impressively, though, the Cayman has more cargo space than the Corvette in a package that's nearly 10 inches shorter. The Cayman also still offers a manual option for those that prefer self-shifting. The 2020 Toyota Supra is on the cheap end of this sports car class, just crossing $50,000. It also boasts more power than the Cayman, though it's still down by 160 ponies and 105 pound-feet of torque to the C8. It's also about as roomy as the Corvette, despite being about the same size as the Cayman. Cargo space is a bit tighter. Its driving characteristics will likely differ, too as the Supra sits on a front-engine platform. It might even feel closer to a C7 Corvette in some ways. The other mid-engine entry in this price range is the 2019 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider. Its small 1.7-liter turbo inline-4 only makes 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, but it's also far and away the lightest of this group at 2,487 pounds. That's roughly 1,000 pounds lighter than the Corvette. It isn't as fast as the Corvette in a straight line, but that lightness surely pays dividends in cornering and braking.

GM won't pay owners of recalled cars for lost value

Thu, 12 Jun 2014

Kenneth Feinberg, the man in charge of the General Motors compensation fund dealing with the its widespread ignition switch woes, has issued an informal, two-letter response to the plaintiffs in more than 70 lawsuits seeking redress for lost resale value of their Cobalts: "No." The cases were recently combined into one, but Feinberg told The Detroit News that the fund will deal "only with death and physical injury claims," and that "perceived diminished value" will get no consideration.
ALG, the firm specializing in establishing residual values, determined that Cobalt owners had lost $300 compared to the segment competition and doesn't envision any long-term effects from the recall situation. Feinberg's statement comes in advance of public details on how the compensation fund will work and adheres to GM's long-held position on the matter. The company has already asked a judge to throw out such suits using the pre-bankruptcy defense, even as it stopped using that defense in cases of injury and death.
With plenty of potential gain from the GM suit, however, don't expect the plaintiffs to give up yet. When Toyota was sued for the same reason during the unintended acceleration debacle, it eventually settled the case for between $1 billion and $1.4 billion just to get it over with. Since the 85 law firms involved in the Toyota litigation took home more than $250 million of that total, we shouldn't expect the attorneys to give up on a GM payout, either.
