1987 Chevrolet S10 (350 ci Chevrolet V8)

We bought this truck approx 10 years ago in 2003. It still had the original 4 cylinder and transmission. We drove it daily for approx 1 year, then the 4 cylinder went out on it. We then decided to build from scratch the motor, trans, and rear end.

We built a 350 cubic inch, .030 over, Hyperutectic pistons (flat tops), fresh bore, new cam bearings and freeze plugs, fresh crankshaft, resized connecting rods, new rings, rod bearings, and main bearings, new high volume oil pump, double row Cloyes timing chain, Comp cam, (Part No. 12-677-4) (.501 intake, .510 exhaust, 236/242 @ .050) matching Comp valve springs, retainers, locks, valve seals, Crane full fulcrum roller rockers, new pushrods, new matching Comp lifters. Heads are new World Products Sportsman II (202/160 Manley stainless valves). Edelbrock Torker II intake, Holley 650 double pumper. New bowtie valve covers, green breathers and filter. Taylor wires. And much more.

The engine dyno numbers are: 455 HP @ 6500 RPM, 435 FT LBS of torque @ 5000 RPM.

Transmission is a fresh Turbo 350. GER 3000 stall converter (GER's best). Trans has B&M shift kit, and all high performance clutches, plates, drums, springs, band.

This engine and trans combination has approx 1000 miles on it, just enough to make sure everything works perfect.

New special S-10 Be-Cool radiator. New water pump, new Hitachi mini high torque starter, high amperage alternator. Full length Hedman headers. 2 1/2 inch exhaust with Super Turbo mufflers.

Rear end is a 7.5 posi unit out of a 1997 Trans Am, in perfect working order. .373 gears

Interior is all original, and in what we would consider near mint condition. Nice door panels, etc. Nice stereo system with CD player, 1200 watt 2 channel amp, and 2 10'' subs in truck boxes. Nice door and dash speakers, with tweeters on the doors.

Body is in excellent condition in our opinion, for it's age. No exterior rust that we can see. It has a few small dings here and there, and some bug chips in the front bumper, and a few on the hood. But other than that it's excellent, shines nicely, the only rust we could find were a couple of very small spots in the bed, only 2 and they are at the very back. This truck had already been repainted and is in the same condition it was in since we bought it. We have not driven it in the rain or in the snow, and has been stored inside when not being used for 10 years.

Wheels are about the same age, tires are nearly new. They are in excellent condition, the truck drives beautifully, brakes work perfect, starts up every time. We left all the A/C pieces intact so if you wanted to put the A/C on it you could.

We consider this to be a very dependable vehicle. It can be used for regular street driving, or drag racing. It will work perfectly for either one.

This truck is old enough to qualify as a classic, so it could be licensed as a classic truck (in Missouri).

Watch how Corvette Racing's new collision-avoidance radar system works

Fri, 22 Mar 2013

When it comes to technology used in racecars, we generally expect it to trickle down to production cars, not the other way around. Well, Pratt & Miller has developed a new rear-facing radar that operates in a similar fashion to what we're used to in modern blind spot detection systems, only it is also capable of tracking cars as they approach and relaying vital information to the driver via a large display screen.
The innovative radar system debuted at last weekend's 12 Hours of Sebring for Corvette Racing, and this system makes perfect sense for endurance races like this since the cars sometimes have to drive through the night and in poor weather conditions.
The radar can detect cars even with poor visibility, and uses easy-to-distinguish symbols for the driver to identify.

Should heavy-duty pickup trucks have window stickers with fuel mileage estimates?

Sat, Sep 23 2017

If you were to stroll into your nearest Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, Nissan, or Ram dealership, you'd find a bunch of pickup trucks. Most of those would have proper window stickers labeled with things like base prices, options prices, location of manufacture, and, crucially, fuel economy estimates. But you'd also run across a number of heavy-duty trucks with no such fuel mileage data from the Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA doesn't require automakers to publish the valuable miles-per-gallon measurement for vehicles with gross weight ratings that exceed 8,500 pounds. That makes it difficult for consumers to compare behemoths powered by turbocharged diesel engines – between one another, and between smaller, gasoline-fueled trucks. Consumer Reports doesn't think it should be this way, and it's spearheading an effort (PDF link) to get the government to require manufacturers to publish fuel economy estimates. In its own testing, CR found that heavy-duty pickups powered by Ford's Power Stroke, GM's Duramax, and FCA's Cummins diesel engines (which doesn't include the Ram's EcoDiesel) get worse fuel mileage than their lighter-duty gas-powered siblings. We're not so sure HD-truck buyers are unaware of this fact – big diesels don't really come into their own until big loads are placed in their beds or attached to their trailer hitches. Under heavy workloads, the diesel trucks will almost certainly return greater efficiency than a similar gas-powered truck. What's more, HD trucks with lumbering diesels in general make the driver feel more confident while towing due to greater torque at low engine RPM than gas trucks. They also offer greater max-weight limits. Still, we agree EPA fuel mileage estimates should be offered for heavy-duty pickups. And we think the comparisons provided by Consumer Reports might be interesting to potential buyers. Click here to see the results of CR's tests, and let us know what you think using the poll below. Watch NASCAR racer Jeff Gordon put one over on a used car dealer... sorta

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

Full Disclosure: in my younger days, I loved nothing more than tormenting passengers with my behind-the-wheel hijinks. Once, after a particularly artful handbrake turn on a two-lane at around 50 miles per hour, I left one backseat occupant crying in their own lap. This isn't necessarily something to be proud of, but it gives you a glimpse into why it is that I find this ad from Pepsi so damn disappointing. The premise is beautiful. Take NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon, give him a disguise and set him loose upon some unsuspecting used car dealer. Hilarity ensues.
Except that this Pepsi Max commercial is so obviously staged, it can't help but feel like some ham-fisted marketing fail. From the strategically placed aftermarket cupholder mounted mid-dash for the hidden camera to the fact that the supposed dealer Camaro is displayed as a 2009 model (Hint: Chevrolet didn't make any), this clip is about as organic as a Twinkie. Still, we would never turn down a chance to watch Gordon thrash on a rental-spec coupe - only problem is, he probably didn't even do the driving himself. Check it out below.
