1994 Ev, Electricar, Hughes, Electric Vehicle, Electrovehicle, Classic, Original on 2040-cars
Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, United States
1994 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck built in June of 1994 at the Shreveport LA plant. I found a lot of reading on 1997 and 1998 S10 electricars, but not on a 1994, other than Hughes Aircraft was the original designer and it was changed to Electricar. (The Controller on this truck is stamped HUGHES) I purchased the truck in Norman Oklahoma at an impound auction. The truck is in fantastic shape and I bought it for body and interior parts. The batteries were removed before I purchased it, so I have no idea what works and what does not. The original books are still in the vehicle including the Driver Briefing Card, Driver's Log Book for Product Evaluation Program, Owners Manual and cassette tape, manual for FM200 Floor Mount Inductive charger, and business cards from eV electrovehicle from Virginia Power in Richmond Virginia. The placards, or stickers, on the truck are different than the ones normally seen on trucks of this era. It also has a charging point in an opening on the front grill I have not seen on pictures of others. The second plugin port is behind what usually would be the gas cap lid. Under the hood is a whole new world for my eyes, but I can tell no components appear to have been taken off. Any questions about specifics that I wouldn't notice contact me and I will look and take pictures to send. The truck has a good clear Oklahoma title. You can tell the tires are all original including the spare which obviously has never been on the ground. The bed has no dents in or dings inside the bed and again obiously was never used as a truck or to transport cargo. Outside the bed has very light bend where the bed was taken off to get to the batteries. The cab has several very small hail dents from living in Oklahoma. Overall the body is exceptional. The interior is cloth with no tears, the dash board has some cracks on top, but all in all it is also in exceptional condition. I believe this is a very rare truck that was used to proceed the building of the 1997 and 1998 models which didn't work out for GM. I CUT MY RESERVE PRICE IN HALF TO SELL. Bidders with Zero feedback like the buyer of this truck in the last auction have to contact me before bidding or I will reject the bid. It cost time and money to Ebay and it is not fair to others when one can bid and not go through with the purchase. The last auction the zero feedback bidder failed to respond to emails. I have been on Ebay for over 14 years and this is the first time this has happened to me. I googled a government auction in Virginia in March of 2012 last month and found a 1997 S10 in the same condition sold for $7,000.00 My Reserve Price is a fraction of that price and even a lot lower than several bidders bid on my last auction. I started to put it on Buy It Now, but I do like it being an auction instead. Any questions, please ask, my phone number is 405-238-5551. I am located 54 miles south of Oklahoma City and 73 miles north of the Texas state line above Dallas on Interstate 35. I reserve the right to cancel the auction on Zero or Low Feedback bidders if they do not contact before the end of the auction. On Feb-27-14 at 07:35:07 PST, seller added the following information: I added 3 more pictures with the bed on the truck. I also found out yesterday the truck was at the University of Oklahoma on a Grant Program in the 90's. After the Professor retired the University did not know what to do with the vehicle so it sat idle until they finally just wanted it removed to be out of the way. I also received an email from an Ebayer telling me it is a USELECTRICAR and Yahoo has a website. On Feb-27-14 at 07:40:26 PST, seller added the following information: The pictures with the hood open, that is dirt and dust from many years of setting idle. I did not want to wash or clean under the hood since I am not familiar with electrical parts. It looks rusty, but it is not, that is dirt and dust. On Mar-06-14 at 06:10:18 PST, seller added the following information: I cut my Reserve by more than half. |

GM is quietly slashing prices on base models
Fri, Jan 30 2015While General Motors' fourth quarter financial figures haven't yet been released, the automaker seems to be weathering a potentially rocky time well, even beating third-quarter projections last year. To keep the climb going, the company is launching new base trims for several popular models that make them cheaper than ever but with tight dealer margins. The new entry-level trims are the Chevrolet Cruze L, Equinox L, GMC Terrain SL and Buick LaCrosse 1SV. Buyers lose some content by picking them, but the prices are slashed. According to Cars Direct, the biggest savings are on the LaCrosse, where customers pay $31,065, plus $925 destination, $2,570 less than the previous base 1SB trim but must accept things like 17-inch wheels and no cargo net in the back. If you're wondering how Buick can remove only a little equipment but cut the price so much, it's because the company also slashed dealer margins. According to Cars Direct, the difference between the invoice and MSRP for the LaCrosse 1SV is only around $150, compared to around $1,350 before. The disparity is even greater for the Cruze with an $81 difference in the prices, compared to about $600 for the LS version. Showrooms are expected to keep very low stocks of these trims, though. "Dealers use such vehicles to get people in the door, but they do not generally want to do high volumes of these strippers. The margins are next to nothing; they don't make much money off these cars," said Ed Kim, Vice President of Industry Analysis for AutoPacific to Autoblog. Dealers are also expected to advertise that these new base trims undercut major competitors. For example, the Cruze L rings up for about $2,320 less than a Honda Civic LX, according to Cars Direct. One potential drawback for buyers is that these models might not be eligible for incentives. While the attractive prices might get customers into dealers, folks may not actually end up driving home with these entry-level models. Kim indicated base trims also make up a small portion of the sales mix. "Consumers aren't asking for stripped out vehicles, even at the low end of the marketplace," he said. Watch a 2015 Corvette Z06 run the quarter in 11.7 seconds
Sun, Dec 28 2014We're not writing about this because it's an amazing run, we're writing about it because it appears to be the first run. Someone took a 2015 Corvette Z06 to Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas and blasted it down through the quarter mile. It's still wearing the dealer number in wax pen on the windshield and dealer plates, so this example is fresh from the mold. It's also a seven-speed manual. General Motors said the row-your-own Z06 can do the 'strip in 11.2 seconds, and they undoubtedly had a professional driver and more than one run to set that time. To have Just Some Guy show up at the raceway and do an 11.7 at 120.54 mph on his first run means we expect good things to come as Z06s get delivered to their owners. Check out the run in the video.
Take a close look at the guts of the Chevy Volt battery, powertrain
Sat, Aug 9 2014Just how intimate would you like to get with the powertrain in a Chevy Volt? If you're anything like YouTube user d55guy, then spending a half hour filming yourself taking apart the battery pack, motor, inverter and more for a look inside sounds like your idea of fun. After all, this way you get to see the cooling system, the heavy safety kill switch and count up the individual cells in the battery modules. Fun! Turns out, we also enjoy languidly paced Volt dissection video goodness, and we think you might want to see it as well. So, we've embedded two videos below and if you don't have a better understanding of how the Volt is put together after watching them, well, at least you can't say we never tried to show you anything. Given that what's really happening here is the organized 'destruction' of an expensive and potentially dangerous object, let's talk safety. There's a serious disclaimer at the beginning of the videos and on the YouTube description page, but we feel the need to repeat the gist of it here: do not try this at home. The creator of the video says he is a trained engineer and has been doing things like this "for the better part of a decade," so he apparently knows what he's doing. With that in mind, watch it all below. When you're done seeing the insides of a Volt powertrain up close, if you need more filmed EV dissection/destruction, check out this video designed for first responders approaching a damaged Tesla Model S.
