I have owned this truck for 2 years now. The truck has a rust patina on the cab and the truck bed still has a little paint left on it. The truck is fully driveable, you can take it on the freeway, it can take a corner well and the parts that I used to build it are all quality parts. A local shop here has helped it get to this point so I would say it's a fairly professionally built truck. What I haven't finished is the look of the truck, I think the bed would look better stripped of paint and a few other details which will be the new owner's decision now. This is a completed truck, not a project truck. The truck has a VIN, it has passed inspection, it has a license plate, it's registered and street legal. For anyone that isn't familiar with California it's very tough getting an old truck registered and for it to pass inspection, all that has been done. I drive the car, it has insurance and it's registered to my name and I have the title in my hand.

The cab is a 1939 chevy truck cab that has been narrowed and channeled 4 inches. The frame is a 1930's frame that has been boxed, Z'd, with tubular reinforcement and cross member. 1937 ford front end, 1987 ford ranger rear end. Discs in the front that are as good as new, drums in the back, fully rebuilt. Turbo 350 transmission was professionally rebuilt in 2011 and the engine is a 1970 305ci engine with less than 1500 miles on it after its rebuilt. No leaks from front to the rear. Exhaust is street legal with mufflers, cherry bombs but it isn't too loud so it's ok around a neighborhood. Headlights, turn signals, reverse and brake lights.

The interior is very basic, hurst shifter, gauge cluster is in but nonfunctional. Ignition switch is basic aftermarket unit. Battery is a super light Odyssey unit. The gas tank is a 5 gallon gas canister. I have an extra one if you need more mileage out of the car. The brake assembly is a CNC hydraulic kit. The gas pedal is a 1989 ford mustang piece. The carb is an edelbrock street carb. The front windshield is Lexan. The side windows are functional but cannot be rolled up all the way due to the chop. The glass is broken on the right side.

The issues the truck has are as follows: The gas tank only hold 5 gallons, if you need more range you will need to add a second tank which I have available. There is no grill, I have the grill but never installed it which is only a cosmetic piece but I think important to the look of the truck. The radiator has a small leak that will require its core to be replaced. A new radiator is $150, rebuilding the core would be about $90 which includes labor. The truck bed needs it's paint stripped for the truck to have a more cohesive look or the cab needs a similar pain. The seat belt is fully functional but only a lap belt. If you going to drive on the freeway I would recommend a 3 point seat belt. There is no rear windshield and I like that look so if you prefer otherwise either a metal grate or Lexan would look good there. The battery has 550 cca which is a little low especially on hot starts so you can either replace with a larger battery or redo the wiring to avoid hot start problems. It still starts up every time but it will be finicky if left the way it is.

The shop that has done all the work on this truck can take care of the extra gas tank tank and fix the radiator leak. If you are interested you can contact the shop to have the work done. Total should be $250 or you can do it yourself. It would be very easy work.

Chevy Volt 'acceptable,' Nissan Leaf 'poor' in new IIHS safety tests

Thu, Jul 31 2014

Ford C-Max Hybrid also scored "acceptable" rating. With US Nissan Leaf sales up almost 30 percent during the first half of the year, the only thing that might be able to stop the battery-electric vehicle is a good, stiff barrier. Unfortunately, thing's aren't always pretty when that happens in the real world, according to new tests from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Things with the Chevrolet Volt extended-range plug-in are a little bit rosier, though. The two plug-in vehicles were part of a batch of a dozen vehicles that just went through the IIHS's "small overlap" test, in which the driver's side front corner of the vehicle is crashed into a rigid barrier at 40 miles per hour. Out of the dozen, only the Mini Cooper Countryman was given a "good" rating. Five vehicles, including the Volt and the Ford C-Max Hybrid, were rated "acceptable," two were "marginal" and two, including the Leaf, were "poor." Plug-in vehicles are unique in the crash-test context because of their relatively large battery sizes. In the Volt's case, the driver had a "low risk" of injury, said the IIHS. But the Leaf's crash substantially pushed back the instrument panel and steering column, creating a scenario where the driver was "likely" to sustain leg injuries. The batteries in both the Leaf and the Volt passed safety tests specifically targeted at things like thermo and electrical properties and overall integrity. "Nissan is proud of the Leaf's 'Good' rating in all other IIHS tests, a 4-star NCAP rating from NHTSA and its IIHS Top Safety Pick rating in all previous years since the car's release," the company said in an e-mail sent to AutoblogGreen. "As for the performance of the 2014 Leaf in the 'small overlap frontal test,' Nissan will continue to review these and other results from the IIHS 'small overlap frontal test' as we seek opportunities for improvement." Check out the IIHS's press release and small car crash-test video footage below. Range of ratings: Small car ratings run the gamut in challenging small overlap front test The Mini Cooper Countryman is the only small car to earn a good rating among the latest group of 12 cars subjected to the Institute's small overlap front crash test. Two electric models and a hybrid also are in the mix, with varied results. The electric-powered Chevrolet Volt (with a gasoline engine "range extender") earns an acceptable rating, while its battery-electric rival, the Nissan Leaf, earns a poor rating.

Joe Flacco wins C7 Corvette along with MVP honors

Mon, 04 Feb 2013

As part of a longstanding tradition, the MVP of Super Bowl XLVII, Joe Flacco, quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens, was given a new car directly after the game and trophy celebrations. For 2013, that car is a 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, and it was presented to Flacco by Rick Flick of Banner Chevrolet, a dealership in New Orleans that was wiped out by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 before returning to prominence as the only Chevy dealer in Orleans Parish.
Last year, Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning took home a 2012 Corvette GS Centennial Edition. Manning also won in 2008, when he selected a Cadillac Escalade Hybrid as his reward. In 2011, quarterback Aaron Rodgers accepted the keys to a Camaro convertible.
Though we're most definitely an auto-obsessed group, we did watch the Big Game along with nearly everyone else in America. And we've gotta say, as if winning the Super Bowl and receiving the Tiffany-designed Pete Rozelle Trophy wasn't enough for the multi-millionaire MVP athletes, a brand-new C7 seems like an awfully generous prize. Sinkhole Opens Up In National Corvette Museum, Swallows Eight Cars

Wed, Feb 12 2014

More cars are being moved inside the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Ky. to avoid falling down the same sinkhole that swallowed eight classic sports cars early this morning, Autoblog reported. Museum officials said the hole was discovered when motion sensors activated around 5:45 a.m. The rescue mission can be viewed on the museum's live feed cameras, which weren't working after the sinkhole emerged. A 1993 ZR-1 Spyder and a 2009 ZR1 "Blue Devil," both on loan from General Motors, were among the cars that fell into the sinkhole. The museum owned the other affected Corvettes, which included a 1963 Corvette, a 1984 PPG Pace Car and the 1 millionth Corvette ever produced. The state of the cars at the bottom of the hole isn't known, but trial lawyer and sinkhole expert Ted Corless said the cars may be a total loss for the museum and GM. "Most states, including Kentucky, exclude damage caused by sinkhole activity," he said. "There will be, in all likelihood, a claim made, but a lot of policies would specifically exclude these kinds of damages." Corless has 15 years experience dealing with sinkholes. He said that typically neither the building, nor the cars themselves are protected under their insurance policies. "I would have to say, more likely then not, they're going to have an uninsured loss measured in the hundreds of thousands of dollars." The museum is closed Wednesday while a structural engineer assesses the damage.
