I have owned this truck as part of my collection for just shy of two years. Originally purchased for a full frame off restoration, my interests have changed a bit. Here a few details:

1960 Chevrolet 1/2 ton
235 cubic inch inline 6
4 speed manual transmission
divorced 2 speed transfer case
Selectro manual hubs

The body is in good condition. It has previous amateur body and paint work. The red/white color scheme appears to be original, but the truck has been repainted. The frame and body are solid and mostly rust-free. The original wood bed is intact and useable. Previous owner claimed it to be a native Colorado truck with 47,000 original miles. Based on overall condition, I believe it... but it's not verifiable.

The following work has been completed:
NOS sweeper seals on front axle
All synthetic fluids including differentials, transfer case, transmission and engine
New brake shoes and drums in all positions
Front hub and wheel bearing service
Diagnosis and repair of various electrical shorts
Cleaning and re-building of speedometer (odometer reset to 00,000)
Adjustment of hydraulic clutch (may need a new slave in the future)

There are still many things that she needs to be perfect. As it stands now, it is a great, unmolested original truck you can use and enjoy without hesitation. It would make an excellent candidate for a full restoration. I am happy to discuss any details. It is running and driving... registered and insured. It spends its life in indoor storage. Please feel free to contact  for more information. I am entertaining fair, reasonable and realistic offers. For reference, the insured value of the truck is $15,000. Test drives are welcome as long as the weather is nice, the roads are dry and you arrive with a valid driver's license and proof of insurance. No warranties of any kind are expressed or implied. Please ask questions and be comfortable with this truck before you bid. The truck is for sale locally, and I reserve the right to cancel the auction at any time, for any reason.

A few items that I forgot to mention...

- The heater blower motor is not working. There is good power to the circuit and the switch is working. It is either the resistor or the motor itself.
- In the process of working on that issue, I broke one the temperature control cable.
- The cab interior light is intact, but has not been rewired to the headlight switch.
- The oil pressure sending unit is inoperative. I have checked and replaced all bulbs in the cluster. I have a new sending unit somewhere...
- The parking brake does not work.
- I do not have the driver's side interior arm rest.
- I have two NOS GM key blanks to go with the truck.
- I have a full set of factory service manuals and the original owners manual.
- The truck will include spare parts, including an extra hood (not the correct 60-61, unfortunately), tailgate, and rear wheel wells.
- I have a spare wheel, but no tire to go with it.
- I will include the 1960 Colorado Farm Truck plates.

The truck has been in storage all winter. As I find things I have forgotten to mention, I will add them here. I want to make sure the new owner knows everything there is to know about the old gal, and is happy.

I uploaded some additional pictures of the truck, including some of the frame and undercarriage. Hopefully they will help illustrate the overall condition of the truck. Tires have good tread remaining.

Some information about the tires and wheels:

I believe that the wheels are original. I have never had the tires dis-mounted to check the stampings. I checked the spare wheel and could not find any manufacturer stamping. By appearance and style, they appear correct. The wheel size is 15". The tires are Power King Premium Traction; 7.00-15LT Tubeless tires; Load Range C. The DOT number on passenger steer tire is: PKNV CNLT 364. My guess is that they were manufactured the 36th week of 1994... But with the old date coding, it is hard to tell. They are in very good shape with no obvious signs of dry rotting.

Autoblog's guilty pleasure cars

Tue, Mar 10 2015

Guilty pleasures are part of life – don't even try to pretend like you don't have one (or two, or six). In the non-automotive space, this could come down to that secret playlist in your iPhone of songs you'll only listen to when you're alone; or think of that one TV show you really do love, but won't admit to your friends. I've got plenty, and so do you. Going back to cars, here's a particularly juicy one for me: several years ago, I had a mad crush on the very last iteration of the Cadillac DTS. Oh yes, the front-wheel-drive, Northstar V8-powered sofa-on-wheels that was the last remaining shred of the elderly-swooning days of Cadillac's past. Every time I had the chance to drive one, I was secretly giddy. Don't hate me, okay? These days, the DTS is gone, but I've still got a mess of other cars that hold a special place in my heart. And in the spirit of camaraderie, I've asked my other Autoblog editors to tell me some of their guilty pleasure cars, as well – Seyth Miersma, as you can see above, has a few choice emotions to share about the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. Read on to find out what cars make us secretly happy. Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG This decadent convertible is the epitome of the guilty pleasure. It's big, powerful, fairly heavy and it's richly appointed inside and out. It's a chocolate eclair with the three-pointed star on the hood. Given my druthers, I'd take the SL65 AMG, which delivers 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. That output is borderline absurd for this laid-back convertible. I don't care. You don't need dessert. Sometimes you just crave it. The SL line is about the feel you get on the road. The roof is open. The air, sun and engine sounds all embrace you. It's the same dynamic you could have experienced in a Mercedes a century ago, yet the SL gives you the most modern of luxuries. An Airscarf feature that warms my neck and shoulders through a vent embedded in the seat? Yes, please. Sure, it's an old-guy car. Mr. Burns and Lord Grantham are probably too young and hip for an SL65. I don't care. This is my guilty pleasure. Release the hounds. – Greg Migliore Senior Editor Ford Flex I drove my first Flex in 2009 when my mother let me borrow hers for the summer while I was away at college. The incredibly spacious interior made moving twice that summer a breeze, and the 200-mile trips up north were quite comfortable.

GM to trim Russian output, raise prices amid currency woes

Thu, Feb 5 2015

General Motors is shutting down its factory in Russia's second largest city, St. Petersburg, from the middle of March until the middle of May as the country's currency, the ruble, continues to give economists fits. The ruble's value has plunged due not only to western sanctions, but a precipitous fall in oil prices. We knew these factors were already impacting the auto industry there, as Ford reported in its 2014 earnings statement, and now they're forcing GM to cut production at the factory, shown above, that is responsible for production of the Chevrolet Cruze and Opel Astra. Meanwhile, Automotive News is citing Russian outlet Kommersant as saying that GM has hiked its prices in the country by an average of 20 percent over the past two months. While a GM spokesman confirmed the St. Petersburg plant would be shut down for the two-month span reported by Kommersant and AN, he would not confirm the price increase. The USPS needs 180,000 new delivery vehicles, automakers gearing up to bid

Wed, Feb 18 2015

Winning the New York City Taxi of Tomorrow tender was a huge prize for Nissan, even though the company is still working through the process of claiming its prize. The United States Postal Service has begun the process to take bids for a new delivery vehicle to replace the all-too-familiar Grumman Long Life Vehicle, and that will be a much larger plum for the automaker who wins it, perhaps worth more than six billion dollars. The Grumman LLV is an aluminum body covering a Chevrolet S-10 pickup chassis and General Motors' Iron Duke four-cylinder engine. The USPS bought them from 1987 to 1994, and the 163,000 of them still in service are a monumental drain on postal resources: they get roughly ten miles to the gallon instead of the quoted 16 mpg, drink up more than $530 million in fuel each year, and their constant repair needs like the balky sliding door and leaky windshields have led the service to increase the annual maintenance budget from $100 million to $500 million. A seat belt is about as modern as it gets for safety technology, and the USPS says that assuming things stay the same, it can't afford to run them beyond 2017. Last year it put out two triage requests for proposals seeking 10,000 new chassis and drivetrains for the Grumman and 10,000 new vehicles. The LLV is also too small for the modern mail system in which package delivery is growing and letter delivery is declining. The service says it doesn't have a fixed idea of the ideal "next-generation delivery vehicles," but it listed a number of requirements in its initial request and is open to any proposal. Carriers have some suggestions, though, saying they want better cupholders, sun visors that they can stuff letters behind, a driver's compartment free of slits that can swallow mail, and a backup camera. The request for information sent to automakers pegs the tender at 180,000 vehicles that would cost between $25,000 and $35,000 apiece, and it will hold a conference on February 18 to answer questions about the contract. GM is the only domestic maker to avow an interest, while Ford and Fiat-Chrysler have remained cagey. Yet with a possible $6.3 billion up for grabs and some new vans for sale that would be advertised on every block in the country, we have a feeling everyone will be listening closely come February 18. We also have a feeling the LeMons series is going to be flooded with Grummans come 2017. News Source: Wall Street Journal, Automotive News - sub.
