I am selling my 1954 Chevrolet 3100 Pick-up truck.  It is the 5 window model.  This truck is all original steel, no reproduction sheet metal.  This was a frame off restoration that was completed about a year ago.  The stock frame has been modified with a 1979 Jaquar rear end and a Mustang II front end. The frame has been painted with a satin black finish .All the brake lines and fuel lines are new  The engine is a rebuilt Chevrolet 400 with a mild Cam and a Holley 4 bbl carb.  The transmission is a rebuilt turbo 400 transmission with a Lokar shifter.  The engine and transmission was rebuilt locally here by Bel Air Ranch in Buellton, California. The fuel tank was relocated underneath the bed and features a locking Harley Davidson cap. The bed is a new oak with stainless steel strips from Mar-K, the wood was finish with several coats of urathane clear.  The wheels are new 15 inch  Wheel Vintique Rallye wheels with baby moon caps.  The  truck was professionally painted by Bill Anderson of Hot Rod Alley in Lompoc, who was Sam Foose's painter. The color is PPG Copenhagen Blue base coat with Glasurit Clear coat. This was a rust free truck.  The body is stock, no modifications.  The bumpers, headlights, taillights, emblems  and door handles all new new.  The interior and dash are all stock except for the steering column which is from 1958 Bel Air and the steering wheel is a 1959 Impala wheel.  The seat was re-upholstered in a brown  faux leather with a distressed look.  The door panels are new brown cardboard with new door handles.  The head liner is new brown cardboard.  The gauges are original but they have been rebuilt.  It has a new Newport Engineering 2 speed electric wiper conversion. This truck has been rewired with a new EZ wiring harness, 12 volt.  The radio is original and does not work. All the rubbers and weatherstripping are new.  This is a great running and driving truck.  This is a very understated but classic color which looks much better in person.  We had listed this truck about a month ago but had a family medical emergency and we were not able to follow through with proper pictures and attention to e-mails, so I do apologize to those who emailed then.  The reserve has been considerably lowered as we need to sell. Please e-mail me with any questions, if you'd like to talk I will give you my phone number.  Buyer to arrange for pick up. Thanks!

GM natural gas-powered vans recalled due to possible leak

Wed, Sep 24 2014

General Motors is recalling almost 3,200 of its compressed-natural-gas powered utility vans because of possible leaks. GM and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) released a notice last week saying that 3,196 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana CNG vans are on recall, though no accidents have been reported due to the possible issue. The recall is specifically for vans for model years ranging from 2011 to 2014. The recall stems from a potential leak from the compressed natural gas high-pressure regulator, and such a leak could cause a fire or explosion. GM will replace the vehicles' high-pressure regulator in order to fix the problem, will do it free of charge and is instructing owners to contact Chevrolet or GMC customer service to arrange for the parts replacement. Utility vehicle makers like General Motors have pushed for fleet sales of CNG-powered vans and trucks for the past few years and have touted them for their cheaper refueling costs relative to standard gasoline, not to mention the fact that natural gas can be readily sourced from throughout North America (thanks, fracking). According to CNGPrices.com, compressed natural gas sells for about $2.22 a gallon, on average, while the AAA is pegging the average price of gas at $3.34 a gallon. NHTSA has posted information on the recall here. Featured Gallery News Source: NHTSA via Reuters Green Chevrolet GM GMC Natural Gas Vehicles CNG gmc savana

Top horsepower-per-dollar cars in 2017

Tue, Feb 17 2015

Bang for the buck. That quasi-scientific statistic is bandied about by motor heads everywhere from classrooms to barrooms, though the truth of the matter is that it's exceedingly complex to measure. A fair performance-per-dollar index would include something like cross-referencing MSRP (Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price) with point-to-point times on a track or driving route, which is obviously hard to do comprehensively. But, for the sheer joy of talking about cars and playing with a big spreadsheet, there's always the horsepower-per-dollar index, which is more straightforward, albeit hilariously flawed. There are vagaries even with this simple formula, of course: MSRP for vehicles can change at a moment's notice, to say nothing of the bottom-line shifting that happens with local deals or showroom negotiation. For this list we're running with the straight MSRP wherever possible, and as recently reported as we can get it. All the vehicles on this list are 2017 models, and all trims are reported where the lowest price and differing power levels intersect. Some choices were made for personal preference and some for sanity, avoiding things like all 48 trim levels of the Ford Transit, all with the same horsepower). If this list were a simple top ten, or even a top fifty, you'd be bored to tears with all the red, white and blue that is represented. Following perfectly with conventional wisdom, American cars really do lead the world where hp/$ is concerned. So, for the sake of variety (and the sheer joy of seeing a minivan 'win' one round of this thing) I've sorted out some top five and bottom five lists for broad power categories. Let's dive in. Less Than 100 Horsepower Okay, okay, this is hardly a category we'll grant you. But we've often tried to click off all the sub-100-hp cars on sale in the US, and making this list gave us an excuse. It also illustrates that none of these smallish vehicles bring cheap horsepower to the table - for that you'll need a motorcycle. The segment-leading Chevy Spark (above) asks just over $139 for each hp, and that Smart Fortwo Electric Drive has hp on sale for about the same price as its very distant family cousin, the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG (insert your favorite Smart joke here... we know you want to).

2014 Chevrolet Silverado tows in new configurator, microsite

Mon, 21 Jan 2013

Judging by your continued enthusiastic response to configurator notices, dear reader, you enjoy speccing out new cars as much as we do. Better still, there tends to be even more ways to personalize, configure and bloat theoretical MSRPs on full-size trucks as there are with more ordinary passenger cars. In addition to trim level, engine and transmission choices, truck buyers usually have to specify items like cab configuration, bed length, number of driven axles, tow packages, gear ratios and all sorts of bits and bobs.
That's why we're pleased to see the DIY specification utility for the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado come alive so soon after this week's Detroit Auto Show debut. While the configurator lacks pricing (General Motors hasn't announced numbers yet) and full options, you can still spec out your half-ton rig, and even print it out or email it to your friends. Beyond the configurator, the new model-specific site is pretty cool, too, with various videos and closer looks at the truck's new features.
The new Chevrolet pickup range won't be on dealer lots until sometime this summer, so whether you're a building contractor, an avid sportsman or just a guy or gal that loves full-size trucks, you might want to check out the link below to keep your appetite whetted. If you're more of a Sierra fan, well, it looks like you're going to have to wait a while - GMC hasn't updated its site yet.
