HISTORY: According to the Protect-O-Plate (included with sale of truck) and documentation, this truck was purchased new from Alexander Chevrolet, Inc in Franklin, IN by the city of Franklin on July 15, 1970. It was sent to Howe Fire Apparatus Company in Anderson, Indiana to be up fitted with a utility bed and PTO to become a Fire and Rescue truck for Franklin IN. It appears the truck was sent directly from the dealership to Howe Fire Apparatus Company and did not get titled until 1971 upon completion of being up fitted with the fire and rescue equipment. In 1983, it was sold to the public with only 6000 miles on it. That owner put a fleet side bed on it and, despite the mileage, performed a "restoration" on it. It was then sold to a close friend of mine in 2002. It was then traded and sold back and forth between me and him two times. When I bought it back from him the last time, it had @52,000 original miles and in need of a lot of attention.

DESCRIPTION: The truck is ultra clean top and bottom. I got the truck back from paint a couple of months ago. It was painted its original 514 Red. Great paint job from Newcastle in Simi Valley, CA. The underside was cleaned and rattle canned. Bumpers, chrome, grill (original) and bright work are in good to excellent condition. All glass is good, windshield is new as are all the seals and rubber. I found a ream of the original factory patterned (standard) red seat material and had it perfectly matched to the original seat when the seat was rebuilt and reupholstered by Richy's in Simi Valley, CA. Mechanically, everything works like they should except the added factory vacuum gauge is not hooked up. Brand new Firestone mud tires.

ENGINE: The engine is a GM factory HT383 crate motor. It has @30,000 miles on it. 1964 corvette ram horn exhaust manifolds, MSD HEI distributor, Optima blue top battery, 00 battery cables, four row radiator, and an internally regulated alternator. The carburetor is a Holly street avenger that was swapped on it a month ago. The truck avenger that I had put on it years back was a factory recalled one, so I had them send me the street avenger instead. It has 2 1/2 exhaust pipes with Flow Master mufflers. Kenz Muffler in Oxnard did the exhaust.

DRIVETRAIN: The transmission is the original SM465 four speed (granny low first). The transfer case is the original NP205 (it has a slight leak) coupled with a Gear Venders overdrive/gear splitter. The rear drive shaft is an Inland Empire Driveline. The axles are both original to the truck retaining their factory 4.10 ratios. Dana 44 in the front, Eaton HO52 in the rear. The rear has a no-spin locker in it (an open diff comes with the truck as well). All u-joints, including axle, were replaced with Spicer units.

BRAKES: I sourced the complete brake system (front disc, rear drums, lines, and booster/master cylinder) from a 1972 3/4 ton Chevy that was bought just for this purpose. All parts that could be bought new or reconditioned were purchased at this time including all new wheel/hub bearings, hoses, calipers, rotors, and drums.

SUSPENSION: The springs are 2 1/2 inch leafs. The rears have a 0 rate 1" leaf added. Last month I added new Bilstien shocks front and back. It also has Hellwig sway bars front and back. The wheels are Ford E350 take offs, that were powder coated white, with brand new Firestone mud tires (matching spare included). It also comes with a set of new ORD shackles that I never installed. The steering box was replaced with one from AGR Steering as well as the steering pump.

INTERIOR: The seat was reconditioned as described above. Features are as follows: New dash pad, newer factory rubber floor covering, new glove box liner, replaced factory cluster with one that has all the gauges including functional tachometer. It has a Custom Auto Sound stereo with a speaker box under the seat. The entire cab floor as well as the lower doors has been LineX'ed. Hush mat has been applied throughout the cab and gas tank. All factory decals are still in place.

BODY: The entire exterior was very recently painted the factory Chevy 514 red. All new rubber was installed (except wind wings). The entire bed was reshot at LineX of Simi Valley. There is not even a foot print in it yet. All new rubber gaskets and cab light lenses were also added when painted. There is not or ever was any rust on the truck.

ACCESSORIES: The truck comes with a full set of manuals, fire apparatus documentation, Protect-O-Plate, matching spare, and a LineX'ed custom cab rack (not installed). If not sold by August, truck can be bid on at Mecum Auctions in Monterey, CA during motor week. Email with any questions, or to set up a viewing. I have a lift so you can go over it from top to bottom. I reserve the right to end listing early, as the truck is for sale locally. Thank You.

Chevy bringing updated Equinox to Chicago

Fri, Feb 6 2015

An updated Chevy Equinox will be revealed at next week's Chicago Auto Show, the automaker confirmed Friday in a press release. The debut of the updated, 2016 Equinox comes on the heels of the midsize crossover – pictured above in its current, 2015-model-year form – posting its best January sales month ever. No details have been released, but Chevy did send out the teaser image you see at right, showing an updated front fascia with new headlamps and LED running lights. This update for the Equinox can't come soon enough. The midsize crossover segment is huge right now, and Chevy's player has largely been unchanged since the second-generation Equinox debuted in 2009. When asked about when we might see a tweaked version of the GMC Terrain – the Equinox's sibling – a General Motors spokesperson could not confirm any specific timing. In any case, we'll bring you all the official details of the new Equinox when it shows its updated face, next week. PickupTrucks.com's latest test results in a familiar winner [w/video]

Wed, 19 Jun 2013

PickupTrucks.com has gone and thrown the latest batch of half-ton pickups into a cage match to see who would come out on top. The site put the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, 2013 Ford F-150, Ram 1500, Toyota Tundra and Nissan Titan through a battery of tests. Those included 0-60 miles per hour acceleration, 60-0 mph deceleration, fuel economy, a hill climb, and payload and towing. They even threw the rigs on an autocross course to evaluate overall handling. Each truck was given points based on how it scored in each evaluation.
Who came out on top? Somewhat surprisingly, the 2013 Ford F-150 walked away with the gold, though fewer than 50 points separated first and fourth place. Head over to PickupTrucks.com to read the full evaluation and the final results. You may be shocked to see exactly where some of the segment's newest additions placed. You can also watch a video on the test below.

2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 vs. 2019 Ram 1500 vs. 2018 Ford F-150: How they compare

Mon, Jan 15 2018

The full-size pickup truck market is seriously hot right now. Both Ram and Chevrolet have introduced completely redesigned trucks, the 2019 Ram 1500 and the 2019 Chevy Silverado, and as the companies slowly roll each one out, more and more information comes to light. We've put together this comparison post to help you keep track of all the features and specifications of each of these new models, along with the updated 2018 Ford F-150. Among the stats we'll take a look at are engines, power, fuel economy, trim levels, weight and more. Weight savings Both the 2019 Ram 1500 and 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 have gone on a diet for the new model year, similar to the one the F-150 went on in 2015. The Silverado is the weight-loss leader, having shed 450 pounds when comparing quad-cab V8 models. The Ram 1500 lost 225 pounds compared to the current truck. Both trucks achieve their weight loss in part due to the use of aluminum parts. On the Silverado, the hood, doors, and tailgate are aluminum, while on the Ram, just the hood and tailgate are aluminum on the body. Compare that to the F-150, which uses aluminum for all exterior body panels for a total weight loss of up to 732 pounds, which makes the aluminum-intensive F-150 the weight-loss leader. View 160 Photos Engines and transmissions There's only a bit of overlap in powertrains on the Ram 1500 and Chevy Silverado. Each has a V8 for the top engine. The Ram's is a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 making 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. The Silverado will once again use a 6.2-liter V8 as its range topper with the same 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque as the current model. Both of these V8s boast some extra fuel saving technology. The Chevy's 6.2-liter (and some 5.3-liters) comes with the company's latest cylinder deactivation system that can shut off any or nearly all of the eight cylinders. The Ram's V8 boasts an optional 48-volt mild-hybrid system that, in addition to likely helping fuel economy, can provide up to 130 pound-feet of torque right off the line. With the Ram, fuel economy sees an improvement of 2 mpg in the city and combined ratings for 17 and 19 respectively. Highway fuel economy improves by 1 mpg to 23 with two-wheel drive and 22 with four-wheel drive. The Silverado's 6.2-liter V8 only improves city fuel economy by 1 mpg to 16, and actually loses 1 mpg on the highway. The new 5.3-liter engine with the fancy cylinder deactivation does see an improvement over the simpler version.
