I recently acquired this 1955 Chevy 3100 truck, has been in storage for 15 years. Truck is very solid, was restored approx. 30 years ago and is showing its age, there are a couple of rust bubbles starting but are very minor. There has been some sheet metal patching done on the floor in the area of the foot wells, this is very typical for these trucks. All of the cab mounts are 100% solid and the bed of this truck is immaculate! there is only one small rust spot in the drivers side rear fender, there is no body filler in that area, it is right where the wheel well opening is rolled and there is a spot where the roll is tighter than everywhere else and that is where the rust spot is. The wood floor in the bed is 100% solid and all of the steel strips are there and are in great shape.

The front fenders seem to be in great shape as well, only very minor rust bubble starting.  The cab corners are very solid as well, there is evidence of some body filler but must be minor, a weak magnet test reveals good metal. there is some minor rust bubbles in the cab corner. The inner fenders are all solid. the drivers side door needs a new upper hinge, the door edge and fender are rubbing.

The glass is all in good shape,

I ran the casting number on the engine and it is a 1962-1967 327ci engine, the previous owner installed a brand new intake, Edlebrock 1405 carb and a Accell HEI super coil and distributor. from what I can tell the carb has not ever had fuel in it. The previous owner died and never finished hooking everything up.

The transmission looks to be a TH350 but I haven't confirmed. It has a kick down cable.

I have not tried starting the truck, the gas tank needs to be drained and cleaned, it is full of 15 year old gas. I changed the oil and the old oil looked good. The engine does turn over freely.

The tires are dry rotted, they hold air but will need to be replaced.

Stock suspension with drum brakes all the way around.

The odometer shows 58,748 I have no reason to believe that this isn't accurate.

The truck has ALABAMA license plates on it.

Both the previous owners are now deceased, I purchased the truck from the widow of the most recent owner. The truck will come with a Iowa Bonded Title. The most recent owner did not transfer the title when he purchased it 15 years ago and he died 10 years ago. The guy who owned it prior to the previous owner has also died and we attempted to contact his family to see if they could do a duplicate title but we were never able to make contact. The bonded title is transferable and you will have no issues transferring ownership. I have done all the required work to obtain a title and have a written notarized bill of sale from the widow explaining the circumstances and verifying ownership.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at (319)631-2009 of email me and I will do my best to answer the question.

GM recalls 3,300 pickups and SUVs for new ignition-switch issue [UPDATE]

Mon, Oct 19 2015

UPDATE: A statement from GM about the recall has been added below. The exact total of vehicles affected is 3,296, including 3,073 of them in the US. General Motors isn't letting an ignition-switch problem grow into a massive scandal again. The automaker is recalling about 3,300 North American trucks and SUVs. They are: the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra and the 2015 Chevy Suburban and Chevy Tahoe, as well as 2015 model heavy-duty pickups, the Detroit News reports, citing an Associated Press story. The issue appears to have been caught fairly quickly. In this case, the keys can get stuck in the "start" position and then slip to "accessory" if bumped. This is because the ignition lock gears have an outer diameter that's larger than the specifications allow. When that happens the engine shuts off, and the driver loses assistance to the steering and brakes. The airbags might also be affected. The vehicles get a new ignition-lock housing to fix the problem. According to the Detroit News, an employee who experienced the problem with the switch discovered the issue, and this person then let officials at the automaker know as part of the Speak Up for Safety program. A total of five reports of the fault were discovered. However, there are no cases of injuries or crashes. The claims to the automaker's resolution program eventually tallied that GM's previous ignition switch problem included 124 deaths and 275 injuries. The company also had to recall millions of vehicles and pay significant fines to the US government. GM Statement General Motors is recalling 3,073 full-size trucks from the 2014 and 2015 model years in the U.S. Some of these vehicles may have an ignition lock actuator gear with an outer diameter that exceeds specifications, which may make turning the ignition key difficult. The ignition key could get stuck in the "start" position. This may be more likely at higher interior ambient temperatures. If the vehicle is driven with the key stuck in the "start" position, and the vehicle experiences a significant jarring event or the vehicle's interior temperature cools, the ignition lock cylinder could move out of the "start" position, rotate past the "run" position, and move into the "accessory" position, leading to loss of power steering assist, power brakes and potentially air bag deployment in certain crashes. Dealers will replace the ignition lock housing.

Take a close look at the guts of the Chevy Volt battery, powertrain

Sat, Aug 9 2014

Just how intimate would you like to get with the powertrain in a Chevy Volt? If you're anything like YouTube user d55guy, then spending a half hour filming yourself taking apart the battery pack, motor, inverter and more for a look inside sounds like your idea of fun. After all, this way you get to see the cooling system, the heavy safety kill switch and count up the individual cells in the battery modules. Fun! Turns out, we also enjoy languidly paced Volt dissection video goodness, and we think you might want to see it as well. So, we've embedded two videos below and if you don't have a better understanding of how the Volt is put together after watching them, well, at least you can't say we never tried to show you anything. Given that what's really happening here is the organized 'destruction' of an expensive and potentially dangerous object, let's talk safety. There's a serious disclaimer at the beginning of the videos and on the YouTube description page, but we feel the need to repeat the gist of it here: do not try this at home. The creator of the video says he is a trained engineer and has been doing things like this "for the better part of a decade," so he apparently knows what he's doing. With that in mind, watch it all below. When you're done seeing the insides of a Volt powertrain up close, if you need more filmed EV dissection/destruction, check out this video designed for first responders approaching a damaged Tesla Model S. Foreign automakers pay from $38 to $65 per hour to non-union workers

Sun, Mar 29 2015

As leaders for the United Auto Workers gather in Detroit for their Special Convention on Collective Bargaining to work out the negotiating stance for this year's new labor agreements with the Detroit 3 automakers, what they most want to do is figure out how to eliminate the two-tier wage scale. However, the lower Tier 2 wage has allowed the domestic automakers to reduce their labor costs, hire more workers, and compete better with their import competition. As it stands, per-hour labor rates including benefits are $58 at General Motors, $57 at Ford, and $48 at Fiat-Chrysler – a reflection of FCA's much greater number of Tier 2 workers. The Center for Automotive Research released a study of labor rates (including benefits) that put numbers to what the imports pay: Mercedes-Benz pays the most, at an average of $65 per hour, Volkswagen pays the least, at $38 per hour, and BMW is just a hair above that at $39 per hour. Among the Detroit competitors, Honda workers earn an average of $49 per hour, at Toyota it's $48 per hour, Nissan is $42 per hour, and Hyundai-Kia pays $41 per hour. The lower import wages are aided by their greater use of temporary workers compared to the domestics. Automotive News says the ten-dollar gap between those foreign camakers and the domestics turns out to about an extra $250 per car in labor, which adds up quickly when you're pumping out many millions of cars. That $250-per-car number is one that, come negotiating time, the Detroit 3 will want to reduce, as the UAW is trying to raise both Tier 1 and Tier 2 wages. Another wrinkle is that the domestic carmakers are considering the wide adoption of a third wage level lower than Tier 2. Some workers who do minor tasks like assembling parts trays kits and battery packs already make less than Tier 2, but the UAW will be quite wary about cementing yet another wage scale at the bottom of the system while it's trying to fight a bigger battle at the top.
