Molalla, Oregon, United States
1955 Chevrolet Pickup This little Lowrider is a great pickup. When cruzing it drives very straight down the road. The nice thing is you can drive it now everyday as it is or drive it while you complete the restoration if you choose to do more. Rear has air shocks, could use front shocks. Nova rearend. Original straight axle in front but we changed hubs so we could have all 5-lug wheels. New brakes in rear. New master cylinder. For manual brakes it stops good. Motor ID #'s say it is a 307 with heads, same as specs as fuelies. Aluminum manifold with 650 holly thats been rebuilt by professional. Electronic ignition. All new rotor, module , coil, plugs and wires. Radiator was all repaired and cleaned by a radiator shop. Turbo 350 transmission with B&M floor shifter. New fuel tank and sending unit. All glass not broken. Some bubbling. Windshield has some scratching. Doors need weatherstripping and some adjustment. All lights work, new blinkers & most wires replaced. Windshield wipers work (2-speed). Heater fan works but needs new heater coor installed . Fan has 1 speed. Toggle switch for heater. Dash is not cut up and there is an original radio (no opperational). New rebuilt and uphostered seat from the original core done by professional. Needs floor mat or carpet. Beautiful 6' Bed with new oak, trimmed with stainless strips. Body was restored in the 1980's. Has some minor rust and dents. Not so good Bondo work in area above viser. My plan was to make a custom overhead console headliner if I kept it. Tires- front 195-70R-14 (approx 50%) Rear 235-60R-14 (approx 50%) but weather checked. Wheels came from a Nova GT I think (see Pics) Actual mileage unknown. GM files to trademark name Badlands
Mon, Feb 23 2015If you've been hoping for General Motors to come out swinging at the Ford F-150 Raptor, we've had some tantalizing news for you of late. Last month we brought you a report that indicated GM has trademarked the name "Z71 Trail Boss," suggesting a potential hardcore off-roader. Now it seems the General has filed for a potentially even better name. That name, as our friends over at GM Authority have discovered, is "Badlands." The application, filed on February 16, indicates that it's for a truck, but of course it doesn't specify just what form it would take... or for that matter, under which division it would fall. So we could, in theory, be looking at the nameplate for a Raptor rival from Chevy or GMC (like the 2011 Sierra All Terrain HD concept pictured here), or for some other trim level, a concept truck, a special edition... just about anything. Heck, it could be for a Vauxhall, Opel or Holden for all we know at this point. Or GM could choose not to use it on anything at all, but here's hoping it'll emerge as something awesome in US showrooms sometime soon. 2014 Chevrolet C7 Corvette wastes no time zooming into Jay Leno's Garage
Thu, 24 Jan 2013Where else would you expect the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray to show up first? Although this time it isn't exactly in Jay Leno's Garage, Leno instead playing an away game at Brown's Classic Auto in Scottsdale, Arizona. Nor does Leno drive the car, instead taking an 11-minute walkaround of the new American sports car with General Motors design head Ed Welburn, the same man who recently brought by a string of classic Corvettes to the talk show host's California compound.
It is, admittedly, a love-fest for the American sports car now featuring 450 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, but one that also features admissions about previous Corvette seats like "they were kinda rough," and the explanation that labeling the coupe "Stingray" means not having to call it "the base Corvette." On top of that, Welburn also explains the proper application of the term "dashboard." You can watch it all in the video below.
Chevrolet donates 300 vehicles damaged by Sandy to help train first responders
Thu, 28 Feb 2013Super Storm Sandy took out a lot of automobiles in its path of destruction through the Northeast last October. The number surpassed 250,000 at last count, and a few of those were owned by Chevrolet - cars either sitting on dealership lots or waiting at port to be shipped off. Rendered unsellable by the water damage inflicted by Sandy, these vehicles were facing the crusher. But Chevy didn't send them there.
Instead, Chevy had a better idea: It will be donating 300 of these vehicles damaged by Sandy to help train first responders at Guardian Centers in Perry, GA. Chevy is the official automotive partner of Guardian Centers, which is an 830-acre facility that trains first responders in disaster preparedness. Junked cars are practically a consumable commodity there, where a full-size cityscape simulator gives trainees an entire urban center in which to train for all sorts of rescue operations and disaster scenarios.
Chevy says its particular vehicles will be used "in conjunction with role players for wide area searches, traffic congestion in emergency situations, counter terrorism, public order and mass casualty exercises." While grim scenarios all, we're certainly glad there are people out there preparing for the unexpected. While a zombie apocalypse isn't officially on the list of potential disasters to prepare for, when the virus hits, we'll be hot-footing it to Perry, GA to hang with these guys and gals.
