1955 Chevrolet Pickup 1st Series Barn Find Rat Rod. on 2040-cars
Holden, Missouri, United States
1955 Chevrolet 1st series pickup truck. Solid Kansas truck. Original 235, 3spd that runs great. All gages work, new brake master cylinder, rebuilt brakes, rubber brake hoses, radiator hoses, belt, seat cover, door panels, headliner, door seals, glove box, transmission cable, fuel tank sending unit, filter and line. Also has an NOS set of Lee brand 15" front tires. Rears are 275 60 15s that are old. This truck runs, drives, and brakes great. Should pass inspection easily. Still on 6 volt system. Underhood is nearly all original. Comes with right side repair panel, dogleg and mount. Factory options are deluxe heater and foot operated windshield washer. Bottle assembly is missing. I also have another pair of correct 15" rims for the rear, but no tires on them.
Rust: Rust is pretty much in the kick panel areas, a spot in the drivers side running board, and, of course the rust patina. Glass, overall, is good, passenger side door glass is new, front does have 2 small bulls eyes in it. History: The truck was bought in the Wichita, KS area. Right door says faintly, John P. Gaty, Wichita, KS, 3000 lbs. I believe its the same John P Gaty who was an engineer, and head salesman for Beachcraft Air in Wichita, and an amateur photographer. The timeline, name, etc, all match up to what I think was his truck. I have paperwork to send in to KS DMV, but have yet to send it in. I was able to talk to the gentleman who owned since the mid-70s and it appears the truck has spent almost all its life in Wichita/Emporia, KS area. This truck would be great to restore back to original. The red paint, history, and solid condition makes it worthy of a full authentic restoration. Sold as is, where is. Title is clear. Any questions, please call, 816-726-4512. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. Truck is for sale locally as well. Payment/pickup/storage: I expect a $500 non-refundable deposit within 3 days of end of auction. Balance to be paid in full with cash, certified or cleared MO or check, wire transfer, or paypal. Truck, title, does not leave my possession until all monies are paid. Pickup/delivery is the responsibility of the buyer. I will store for 14 days, sheltered for free. Every day after that is a $2 per day. Conditions are negotiable. Overseas buyers are accepted. On May-25-14 at 20:39:26 PDT, seller added the following information: repair panels are for left side, not right side. |

Recharge Wrap-up: Tesla P85D upgrades coming soon, lease a Chevy Volt for $149 a month
Wed, Dec 31 2014CarCharging has raised $6 million from shareholders and has restructured to save cash. The EV charging company plans to expand further in 2015 - with an eye toward achieving profitability - in part by investing in technology and "unlocking the value of our significant equipment inventory," says CarCharging CEO Michael D. Farkas. The group expects to reduce administrative costs by 40 percent, and has hired an interim Chief Financial Officer to help carry out its plans for growth. CarCharging raised the cash through offering convertible preferred stock to its shareholders, whom Farkas thanked "for their passion and patience." Read more in the press release below. Rydell Chevrolet in Los Angeles is offering Chevrolet Volt leases for $149 per month. In a video ad, Rydell offers the Volt for $169 a month with $3,390 due at signing, but another ad shows the offer at $149 a month with $3,550 down or $248 per month with $0 down. Rydell Chevrolet will ship the car anywhere in the lower 48 states. It also appears they offer cupcakes. See Rydell's video below, or read more at Inside EVs. Tesla will upgrade the Model S P85D with higher performance and top speed. The free update, which is due "in the next few months" according to a statement from Tesla, will raise the electronically limited top speed from 130 to 155 miles per hour. "Additionally, an over-the-air firmware upgrade to the power electronics will improve P85D performance at high speed above what anyone outside Tesla has experienced to date," Tesla says. The update will be available for the lifetime of the car, which includes subsequent owners. Read more at Green Car Reports. Chevy might've pulled out of NASCAR if it weren't for new Gen 6 car
Wed, 20 Feb 2013We've been on the fence with NASCAR for some time now. On one hand, it's some of the closest racing anywhere in motorsports, with actual passing and door-handle-to-door-handle action as a matter of course. But on the other, it's become template racing - a personality-driven sport more about the drivers than any sort of loyalty to a particular automaker. The Car Of Tomorrow format really rammed that message home, with a racecar's identity coming down to little more than headlamp stickers slapped on the nose. That's not necessarily a bad thing in and of itself, but we've wondered for some time what's in it for the automakers, who pay big money to stay in a series that has had little increasingly little do with street car sales, let alone innovation.
Apparently General Motors was beginning to wonder the same thing. In a new ESPN report, Rick Hendrick, team owner of Hendrick Motorsports, suggests that GM would have seriously considered leaving NASCAR if it wasn't for the move away from the COT to the new Gen 6 racer. According to Hendrick, GM North America boss Mark Reuss spearheaded the charge away from the 2007 COT and toward a racecar with clearer automaker ties - cars like the new Chevrolet SS racer shown above. Learn more about the fight for a closer-to-production look in the ESPN story at the link.
Now, if we could just get more rear-wheel drive V8 coupes into showrooms....
Can DARPA hack into a Chevy Impala through OnStar?
Mon, Feb 9 2015An ex-video game wizard named Dan Kaufman tracked a circuitous route to becoming the head of the Software Innovation Division at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. DARPA normally makes these pages because of its work with autonomous vehicles and automobile technology that overlaps with military applications, but for the past five years Kaufman and his multiple research teams have been working on creating unhackable software code that could be used in military drones. Part of that work has involved hacking into just about everything else, and as a segment on 60 Minutes reveals, that includes cars. The masterminds discovered a way to hack into OnStar, the General Motors telematics system. After figuring out how to hook into OnStar's emergency communication system, they overwhelmed it with data. While the computer was busy trying to manage the overrun of data, the research team inserted code that took control of the sedan's other computers, giving it control. So while reporter Leslie Stahl tooled around in a parking lot, a DARPA researcher with a laptop would occasionally take control of the car, like by applying its brakes or, conversely, removing the ability for Stahl to use the brakes. Hacking into vehicles has been in the news for years: Car and Driver ran a feature on the various ways cars could be hacked in 2011, two hackers released a car-hacking code at the hacker-fest Defcon in 2013 and demonstrated how it worked on a Toyota Prius and Ford Escape, and German researchers demonstrated how they could hack into BMW's Connected Drive remote-services system last week via an attack on the cars' telematics units. This isn't about GM or Onstar or the future; hacking into cars of all kinds isn't coming, it's here, and it doesn't take the half-billion-dollar annual budget of a small DARPA division to do it. Check out the 60 Minutes video on the CBS site (you can watch the entire video from a mobile device without logging in). The OnStar hacking starts at 6:45, but it's worth watching what leads up to that. News Source: Jalopnik Chevrolet Safety Technology Infotainment Autonomous Vehicles Videos Sedan hacking 60 minutes
