1953 Chevy 3800 Long Bed Pickup on 2040-cars

Year:1953 Mileage:85000

Luck, Wisconsin, United States

This is a decent 1953 Chevy 3800 Long Box Pickup.  Truck is mostly original.  Was used as a farm/wood hauling truck for most of the later part of it's life.  Probably used a s a farm truck in first part of it's life.  Before me, the last time it was registered was 1990.  So it had been unused for about 25 years before I brought it back to life and started driving it.  I believe I am the third owner, but don't know for sure.  I've got past registration slips dating back to 1974 from the person that owned it before me.  Good old truck.  Still has the original 216 inline 6 cylinder engine, which the book says put out about 90 HP.  Has the original 4 speed manual transmission.  Manual brakes and steering.  Engine runs good.  Transmission works good.  Steering works good.  Brakes work sufficient to be driven but should probably be replaced with new or upgraded.  I did install a new master cylinder and cleaned the individual brake cylinders.  Truck has the original 6 volt electrical system, which works good.  Always starts.  I changed oil, plugs, and points.  Because blinkers didn't come out until 54, I installed blinkers and new tail light assemblies.  Lights work.  Everything on the dash works except the fuel gauge.  Truck is registered and licensed with clear title.  I use the truck often.  Tires are aged, so I don't drive far.  Has the original split rim wheels.  Drives fine.  Clutch works good.  Clutch throw out bearing whines a little when clutch is depressed, so will need replacing before too long.  Heater fan works and heater/defrost seem to work.  All glass is good.  I've included a lot of pictures of the body to show it's condition.  Has rust holes in cab corners, and a few other areas which should be seen in pictures.  Has numerous dents and dings, mostly from use as a wood hauler (I've been told that adds character....?).  I installed boards in bed.  Because it had multiple layers of brushed on paint, I sanded the truck down and put a coat of primer and paint on it.  Not a professional job by any means, but it looks a lot better than it did.  I also patched the floor where needed and installed new carpeting and matts.  Plus I put a cover on the bench seat.  Doors shut, but need some adjustment, sticky.  Could use a new set of door handles too, loose.  Frame is in good shape, no indication of frame repair or accidents.  Hood is good.  Horns work.  Identification plate says truck was built in Janesville, WI in Sept. 1952, was 1890th built that year.  Because it was built in Sept., it was sold as a 1953 model.  Has 137" wheel base , 8800 GVWR.  Engine was made in Flint, MI.   Good old truck that drives and runs.  See pictures for best description.  Contact me with questions of if more pictures are needed.  Will assist in loading.  Can be driven on trailer.  Delivery is a possible option depending on distance.  Can be discussed with buyer.  Accepted offers, over my starting price, is always possible, using the "buy it now" option, as long as no bids have been placed.

On Aug-04-14 at 12:55:52 PDT, seller added the following information:

I've got more pictures of the frame/underside.  They would only let me upload 24 pictures, so couldn't fit them on listing.   If interested, contact me and I'll email you the pictures through Ebay.  Frame and underside hasn't been cleaned since probably new, but no sign of repair, or abnormalities.  Looks solid.

GM recalling 426,000 sedans over faulty transmission shift cable

Fri, 21 Sep 2012

General Motors is recalling some 426,240 sedans that may have a faulty transmission shift cable, according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report this morning. The recall concerns a fault within four-speed automatic transmissions equipped on 2007-2010 Saturn Aura models, and 2008-2010 Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6 models.
The report specifies that tabs on the transmission shift cable may fracture and separate. Such a fault could cause a discrepancy between the actual position of the transmission and the apparent position of the shift lever.
GM is currently working to notify owners of the vehicles in question, and dealers will check and replace shift cables free of charge. Scroll down to read the complete NHTSA report.

Vert-A-Pac train cars kept your Chevy Vega's price in check

Fri, 01 Mar 2013

Our apologies to those who've seen this before, but for the rest of the class, how awesome are these pictures of the Vert-A-Pac shipping system General Motors came up with to ship the Chevrolet Vega back in the 1970s? Developed along with Southern Pacific Railroad, GM was able to double the amount of Vega models it could ship by packing them into the unique storage cars vertically.
At the time, rail cars could fit 15 vehicles each, but Chevrolet was able to lower shipping costs by making it possible to ship 30 Vegas per rail car, in turn allowing the price of the Vega to remain as low as possible. Each rail car had 30 doors that would fold down so that a Vega could be strapped on, and then a forklift would come along and lift the door into place. All the cars were positioned nose down, and since they were shipped with all of their required fluids, certain aspects had to be designed specifically for this type of shipping, including an oil baffle in the engine, a special battery and even a repositioned windshield washer reservoir. See for yourself in our image gallery above.

2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra debut all-new designs, three new engines

Thu, 13 Dec 2012

General Motors has finally dropped the curtain on the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and 2014 GMC Sierra. Both trucks have undergone substantial revisions with updated versions of the company's 4.3-liter V6, 5.3-liter V8 and 6.2-liter V8 engines. In a shot across the bows of both Ford and Chrysler, GM says it won't use a V6 engine adapted from passenger car applications. Instead, it developed the 4.3-liter engine based on its proven truck-duty architecture.
All three mills will boast direct injection fuel systems as well as a new cylinder head design. Combined with a revised piston, the new engines feature a smaller combustion chamber with a compression ratio of 11:1 or higher depending on the application. Cylinder deactivation and continuously variable valve timing are all part of the recipe, and each engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission with auto grade breaking. So far, no fuel economy or horsepower figures have been released, though GM says the new engines will best their predecessors in both areas.
Outside, the trucks feature a number of enhancements to reduce drag and wind noise, and GM claims both the Silverado and Sierra will offer buyers some of the quietest cabins in the class. Extended cab models now feature front-hinged rear doors to allow easier access to the back passenger area, and Crew Cab buyers can now select between a five-foot, eight-inch bed or a six-foot, six-inch bed. Buyers with a mind toward going off road will also rejoice in the return of the Z71 package, complete with Rancho shocks, front tow hooks and additional under-body protection.
