I am looking for a new home for my 1953 Chevrolet 3100 series 1/2 ton pickup. It has a 1950 216 according to the stamped number on the block using the number cross reference website doing a Google search, although surprisingly at a car show I have seen 2 other 53's with the same numbers. So I am really not sure what is correct. It has a 4 speed on the floor. It has an enclosed drive shaft with newly installed 3:55's in the rear end to keep up with highway speeds. It will do about 65 comfortably. The speedometer adapter is about 5 miles an hour off. It could be replaced easily. I have decided to sell due to medical reasons.

I would like more than anything for it to go to someone that is mechanically inclined and would appreciate what I have started and keep it nice. My goal was to restore it completely back to stock just like it came off the factory line. It is pretty much done although we all know one of these is never really done. I loved the tinkering and will miss that. If you are the same way then you are the type of person I am looking for to purchase it. I have a lot of the old and many new unused parts that were duplicates or I forgot I bought the first time that will go with it if you would like also.  I have a NOS oil filter I haven't installed yet that will go with the truck.

The frame was painted using POR15. The Engine had a small crack above the water journal that I repaired myself with stitching pins. The paint was done by Altissimo in Napa Ca. The engine was rebuilt by Vic's Harbor Machine in West Sacramento they replaced the Babbitts and cut in insert bearings in the rods and crank bearings. The transmission was rebuilt by Macy Transmissions in Concord CA. The rear end was rebuilt and 3:55's were installed by Patrick's in Case Grande AZ. The heater core was recored by Cap-A-Radiator in Farmingdale New York. The radio was refurbished by Fred's Radio Repair in Lenexa Kansas. The carburetor was rebuilt by Contra Costa Carburetor in Concord Ca. If it needed replacement the bulk of the parts were ordered mostly from Brother's and Chev's of the 40's. The bed wood was bought from Mar-K. The inside of the truck bed and the inside of the tail gate has been sprayed with bed liner. It was ordered clear and the pigment of the Horizon Blue paint was ordered and mixed into the clear. The inside is not black bed liner instead it looks blue like the truck depending on what type of light you are in. That looks so much nicer than the black bed liner I think. That was done in Napa by Bert Williams & Sons Inc.

There is 900 miles on the truck since the restoration. Everything was replaced or rebuilt I came across except the front end parts. The king pins surprisingly are pretty tight with only minor back and forth play. The front end would be the last component that could be replaced or rebuilt but I have no problem with it and it would be maybe a couple of hundred dollars.

Check out the pictures. They sort of speaks for itself. There is a outward dent in the left front fender in the shape of a 2x4 that I was using to move the fender brace and it slipped I guess and left an imprint. Not noticeable unless it is pointed out, as a matter of fact it was pointed out to me. The right door has a scratch. I have some Horizon Blue main paint color left over. There is some interior lighter blue used on the seat frame, the thresholds, and the seat skirts left over. The India Ivory was all used, but I have the can with the code. I don't have any hardener. Altissimo told me last year he could repair it easily. I just haven't been able to drive it much and didn't get to it. It is a single stage paint so just build it up and sand it down and polish it out if you are body shop literate. The California Black Plates can be transferred if you are a California buyer at the DMV. I have a DMV here in Fairfield about 2 miles from me.

The truck is located about 40 miles east of San Francisco on I80. It has never been driven in the rain. It has never even been out in the rain since the truck was complete. You are welcome and encouraged to inspect and drive the truck before the auction ends. I bought it from a person that recovered it from an orchard in Northern California where I was told it sat for about 25 years. It is 60 Years old now in 2013. I have all the receipts and although I haven't sat down and added them all up I estimate there is about 40K in the restoration give or take. Haggerty Insurance insures it with an agreed value of $35,000. That was when it was 3/4 done. You could probably send in pictures and get the value increased. You would have to contact them to verify this. There is a reasonable reserve on the truck. I am not interested in trades or tire kickers. Please be at least semi serious about buying a restored truck if you contact me asking me a question. The truck is available for inspection and to be taken for a ride as long as I go with you. If there is something I left out or something you would like to know about the truck please let me know. I can only sell to someone in the USA as I don't know how to produce the export papers and the proper bill of sale. As is, Where is, with no warranty expressed or implied. I have updated a few things since the pictures were taken. The proper trumpet type horn was installed as seen in some pics, the old horn I was using is in others. The heater was recored, new fan blade, new 6 volt motor, new defrost hoses, new defrost squirrel cage, new heater switch and new defrost switch installed.

GM might outsource vans to AM General

Thu, Nov 26 2015

General Motors will possibly boost production of the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon at the Wentzville Assembly Plant in Missouri by contracting out some commercial van manufacturing to AM General. Demand for the two midsize trucks continues to boom, and GM would like to take advantage of the strong market for them. The possible deal came to light in a letter to workers at the factory, according to Automotive News. "This potential partnership would free up production capacity and allow the organization to capitalize on our ability to build midsize trucks to further satisfy customer demand," a portion of the document allegedly said. AM General would reportedly only take over assembly of the cutaway versions of the Chevy Express and GMC Savana. Customers and critics have quickly embraced the latest Colorado and Canyon since their introduction. The Chevy just won back-to-back Motor Trend Truck of the Year awards. GM also had to add a third shift and extra workers in 2014 just to keep up with demand. The Wentzville plant even increased employment on the weekends earlier in 2015 to assemble an extra 2,000 of the trucks each month. While the two pickups boom, deliveries for the Chevy Express and GMC Savana are down 26.9 percent and 26.6 percent respectively through the first 10 months of the year. GM doesn't break out numbers for the cutaway versions, but they make up about a third of production, according to Automotive News. AM General built the Humvee for the US military and does some contract work with automakers. For example, the company's Indiana factory now produces the Mercedes-Benz R-Class for export to China. Here's hoping this potential deal will help both GM and AM General keep their factories humming. Related Video:

GM recalls Chevy Express, GMC Savana over rollaway concern

Mon, 21 Jan 2013

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall notice for a small number of General Motors fullsize vans due to possible rollaway concerns. On certain 2013 Chevrolet Express and 2013 GMC Savana models, it is possible to remove the key from the ignition without the shifter being in park.
Only 980 total units are being affected by this recall, and GM is fixing the issue by replacing the ignition cylinder and associated keys. Affected Chevy vans were built during most of November and December while its GMC counterpart was only built for a week in November. The recall goes into effect on January 23, and to find out if your vehicle applies to the recall, the GM and NHTSA contact numbers can be found on the official recall notice, which is posted below.

Smaller Cars Endure Big Problems On Crash Test

Wed, Jan 22 2014

In a crash test of 11 of the smallest cars on the market, only one vehicle received an acceptable rating. The rest received marginal or poor ratings in the study, providing evidence that supports a widely held notion that smaller cars are among the least safe on the road. No other vehicle group has performed as poorly on a new crash test than these mini cars, says the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the nonprofit group that conducted the testing. The latest results of which were released Wednesday. The Chevrolet Spark was the only car earning an overall "acceptable" rating on the small-front overlap test, and even that vehicle had its shortcomings, IIHS said. "Small lightweight vehicles have an inherent safety disadvantage," said Joe Nolan, the senior vice president for vehicle research at IIHS. "That's why it's even more important to choose one with the best occupant protection. Unfortunately, as a group, minicars aren't performing as well as other vehicle categories." The Mazda2, Kia Rio, Toyota Yaris and certain Ford Fiesta models all received "marginal" overall grades on the test, while the Mitsubishi Mirage, Nissan Versa, Toyota Prius C, Hyundai Accent, Fiat 500 and Honda Fit all earned "poor" ratings. Results from these sub-compact cars fare much worse than vehicles sized just a little bit bigger, IIHS said. Among 17 cars evaluated in the small category, five earned "good" ratings and five more earned "acceptable." Only introduced a year ago, the small-front overlap test has quickly become a key indicator of differences in automotive safety. IIHS introduced it as a way to replicate what happens when the front corner of a vehicle collides with a tree or utility pole at 40 miles per hour. In the real world, these sorts of accidents are more dangerous than others, in part because they bypass the front-end crush zones on most cars.
