For sale is a 1952 Chevrolet 3100 1/2 ton pickup with a 235 CID motor. When I bought this truck, I was told the motor came out of a 1954 Corvette but I have not checked the numbers to verify that. The truck ran good when it was parked several years ago, but was parked when the radiator developed a leak. The man who owned it then (a certified mechanic - I know him)  planned to use that as an opportunity  to convert it to a 12 volt, but never got around to it (it is still a 6 volt system), so the truck just sat (garaged) until I talked him into letting me buy it. The only reason I'm selling it, is I have the opportunity to buy a Harley I've wanted forever. It took me many years to get this truck, but opportunity knocks. Overall, the body is really pretty darn straight, with the exception of just a couple of minor areas (please look closely at photos). The floors are solid, cab corners are good, doors are fine...a little bit of rust and body work, but not too bad. Again, check photos. It's just a good solid truck that with some TLC would make a great Cruiser, Lowrider or Ratrod.  The tires are fair, the rims behind the hubcaps are chrome, the hubcaps are brand new - I took them out of the box for the photos. Just needs some wide whitewalls to look super cool or old school. Has Fulton sun visor. Brakes are good, steering is tight. Everything looks to be present on the truck except for the breather. Comes with extra chrome grill. The extra grill is not perfect, but it will be included in the sale.  The driver's door glass and passenger door glass and quarter glass are cracked...the rest of the glass is good. The seat is not original to the truck, but very good condition with seatbelts and no rips. Has driver's side peep mirror with Kansas Jayhawk sticker. Rock Chalk Jayhawks!  As I said, it took me many years to talk my friend into letting me buy this truck, and I finally was able to do that the first of the year, so the title has been applied for (on January 10th) and will be in any day (Kansas has just switched to a new DMV system, so it could be as long as another couple or 3 weeks, or it could be tomorrow). I do have a copy of the registration I can provide to the successful bidder, and the title - if it's not already here by the end of auction, will be forwarded to buyer immediately upon its arrival. Please don't let this give you any pause - just look at my feedback record and know you can be comfortable in my reputation as a longstanding eBay seller. Truck is also for sale locally, so I do reserve the right to end auction early.

Buyer is responsible for arranging for and paying for all costs associated with delivery. I do require a 500 dollar deposit within 48 hours of end of auction, with the balance to be paid within one week of auction's end. If you need more time than that, please contact me prior to bidding so we can make sure we are all on the same page with what is happening.

If you have any questions whatsoever, PLEASE contact Leroy at Seven-Eight-Five - Two-THree-Zero - Four-Nine-Nine-Two prior to bidding. I want you to feel comfortable in what you are bidding on.

I have had a number of people ask me about the reserve. I have it set at 5,000 (less than what I have in it)...so definitely a very fair reserve amount for this awesome truck. No matter what you want to do with this vehicle (ratrod, cruiser, lowrider or to simply restore it) there is a lot of truck here for the money it would take to get it to that point. Also, in the description I mistakenly wrote the seat in the truck has seatbelts. In actuality, the seat has the holes for seatbelts to slip through, but no seatbelts. Thanks for the questions, and keep them coming!

My best answer to the 'is it running and driveable question' is that, again, it was running condition, but was parked when the radiator developed a leak and the previous owner was going to use that opportunity to switch it to a 12 volt system, but never got around to it. For it to run now, it would need a radiator (a fairly inexpensive replacement piece) and a battery (I did not buy a 6 volt because, I too, would have switched it to 12 volt if I were going to keep it).  Something else I thought of, though, is that it does not have an ignition key, so you would probably want to buy a new ignition switch at a parts store (very inexpensive - ten bucks or so). Also...there are two blue pieces you can see in the back of the truck that go on sides that cover the frame above the running boards.  Again, keep the questions coming!  Thanks!

A car writer's year in new vehicles [w/video]

Thu, Dec 18 2014

Christmas is only a week away. The New Year is just around the corner. As 2014 draws to a close, I'm not the only one taking stock of the year that's we're almost shut of. Depending on who you are or what you do, the end of the year can bring to mind tax bills, school semesters or scheduling dental appointments. For me, for the last eight or nine years, at least a small part of this transitory time is occupied with recalling the cars I've driven over the preceding 12 months. Since I started writing about and reviewing cars in 2006, I've done an uneven job of tracking every vehicle I've been in, each year. Last year I made a resolution to be better about it, and the result is a spreadsheet with model names, dates, notes and some basic facts and figures. Armed with this basic data and a yen for year-end stories, I figured it would be interesting to parse the figures and quantify my year in cars in a way I'd never done before. The results are, well, they're a little bizarre, honestly. And I think they'll affect how I approach this gig in 2015. {C} My tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015 it'll be as high as 73. Let me give you a tiny bit of background about how automotive journalists typically get cars to test. There are basically two pools of vehicles I drive on a regular basis: media fleet vehicles and those available on "first drive" programs. The latter group is pretty self-explanatory. Journalists are gathered in one location (sometimes local, sometimes far-flung) with a new model(s), there's usually a day of driving, then we report back to you with our impressions. Media fleet vehicles are different. These are distributed to publications and individual journalists far and wide, and the test period goes from a few days to a week or more. Whereas first drives almost always result in a piece of review content, fleet loans only sometimes do. Other times they serve to give context about brands, segments, technology and the like, to editors and writers. So, adding up the loans I've had out of the press fleet and things I've driven at events, my tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015, it'll be as high as 73. At one of the buff books like Car and Driver or Motor Trend, reviewers might rotate through five cars a week, or more. I know that number sounds high, but as best I can tell, it's pretty average for the full-time professionals in this business.

Chevrolet SS previewed by Holden VF Commodore SS V show car

Thu, 14 Feb 2013

It won't be long before we see the official, production-ready Chevrolet SS sedan (hint: it will be revealed this weekend). And to tide us over until all of the official details are released about the US-spec version, we have this: the Holden VF Commodore SS V show car, a performance-oriented brother to the Calais V that debuted earlier in the week.
What we really want to know about the SS V is what lies underhood, but General Motors' Australian arm is keeping that under wraps until the Chevy model breaks cover this weekend. Nevertheless, it's obvious that the SS V will be a serious performer, with all sorts of aggressive cues driving that home on the car's exterior. Take a look at those 20-inch billet aluminum wheels that hide big Brembo brake calipers up front, the sculpted hood and front fascia, the wide air intakes with LED running lights and the quad exhaust pipes out back. It's like the Pontiac G8 GXP never even left us.
Inside, there's a sporty-looking interior with aluminum accents that mix in with black leather and suede surfaces, all tied together in the middle with an eight-inch MyLink touchscreen infotainment system. It looks great, and again, while we don't know anything regarding powertrain details, it makes us oh-so happy to see a manual shifter smack dab in the middle of the center console.

Weekly Recap: Bentley Bentayga leads luxury SUV charge at Frankfurt

Sat, Sep 12 2015

The Bentley Bentayga is launching a new era of ultra high-end sport utility vehicles that will see luxury makers vie for the world's richest and most exclusive customers. The Bentayga is Bentley's first SUV, and it will formally debut next week at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It's loaded with Bentley's best technology and features, led by a 600-horsepower W12 engine. The mission is simple: stop giving up sales to other companies by not having an SUV in its portfolio. "It creates an entirely new category of ultra-luxury SUV, where there are currently few rivals," IHS Automotive analyst Ian Fletcher said in a report. But Bentley and the Bentayga will soon face stiff competition. Archrival Rolls-Royce will produce its own crossover to be built in England, though timing is unclear. Lamborghini has approved plans for a ute that will be assembled in Italy and launch in 2018. Even the sportier British brands are getting into the market. Aston Martin will make a crossover version of the DBX concept shown earlier this year in Geneva, and Jaguar is launching the F-Pace crossover, which will debut in Frankfurt. These new entries will invigorate a segment that's comprised of the Mercedes G63 AMG and the Land Rover Range Rover SV Autobiography, and Bentley is poised to grab a large share of it, Fletcher noted. IHS forecasts Bentayga sales could hit 3,000 units per year in 2017 and 2018, pushing total Bentley sales to more than 10,000 in the next few years. The vehicle will also get plug-in hybrid and diesel variants to widen its reach. The Bentayga is a sales grab, for sure, but Bentley took care to ensure the SUV remained true to the brand. It's laden with the top-shelf wood, leather, and metal, and it comes standard with an expansive panoramic glass roof. It also has intelligent features like electronic night vision and an optional responsive off-road system that can be configured to adapt to eight different settings. It's a different kind of Bentley, but it's a harbinger of things to come for the world's richest luxury makers. Other News & Notes Toyota debuts next-gen Prius Toyota revealed the next-generation of its iconic fuel-sipping hybrid, the 2016 Prius, at an event in Las Vegas. The car promises 10-percent gains in fuel efficiency, though actual figures – and even powertrain specifics – were not revealed. We estimate that could mean about 56 miles per gallon in city driving and 53 on the highway.
