I found this truck when I was giving an estimate for a garage addition, the owner of it owned a car parts store. He opened the door and I about fell out! I have another 49 truck that I was working on for years and bought parts from him and he never said a word about it to me. Anyway, they decided to retire and his wife died the next day after retiring. He had built this truck for her as he took her out on dates with it before they were married. Since her passing, he did not want the truck anymore.

He took the truck completly apart 23 years ago, complety stripped it and built it from the ground up. Every nut and bolt came off of it. All parts were brand new. He took a camaro engine, the 2.8 v-6 and beefed it up, headers too, 4 barrel carb, better heads and so on. I don't quite know all the details. He put the overdrive tranny in it too, with a controller in the cab. Put new gauges in it, new seats, new column, radio, speakers and new handles. Brand new tires on rally rims. Has upgraded suspension under, not sure what but I think it was off the camaro. Had a good paint job on it. And then he drove it for only 18 miles!! Since then it was parked in his garage for the last 23 years!

I bought the truck from him, probably paid too much, but since his wife just died I didn't attempt to talk him down. I drained all the fluids from it, put new fluids in, changed the battery and plugs, checked the brakes and all the other good stuff. It cranked within seconds!! So off down the road I went! It ran perfect but flooded when I returned, he had failed to put a fuel pressure regulator on it. Put that on, and now it was good to go. The steering pulled like hell to the right, he said he never took it to get an alignment done, I took it and now it drives straight. Has good power for the V-6 in it. Trucks down the road like a new one. Cranks right up every time.

The only issue with the truck is the air conditioning, it sucks! Probably because it doesn't have one! The heater works great especially in the South Carolina summers! But is does have the nice cowl vents that push a lot of air in the cab. The other issue is that when it sits for a while the battery seems to go dead. I tried to see what was drawing the power but couldn't find anything, so I just unhook the battery when I park it. It also does not have the tailgate. This truck is just how I purchased it other than the wheels and a good cleaning. Has a few scuffs on the paint but not bad for 23 years old, I did have it buffed out too.

I did put different wheels on it since I bought it. The tires are wide, but will need replacing soon. I will give you choice on the rally wheels with new tires that are not dry rotted or the ones on the picture. I like the ones on the picture myself.

I really don't want to sell but I have my other 49, plus a 67 camaro that I need to finish and just don't have the room to store them like I want to. Plus my wife is on me about getting rid of some of them. Hate to see it go but someone would enjoy it more than I can.

The truck is currently stored inside. Can store up to 30 days with no storage fees, but must be paid for first.

It now has 265 miles on it and I feel confident it will make a long trip with no problems. No leaks either. Very good restoration 23 years ago.

2016 Chevy Volt arrives with 50-mile EV range, 41 mpg [w/ video]

Mon, Jan 12 2015

Let's start with the numbers. The 2016 Chevy Volt will have an all-electric range of 50 miles from a new, 18.4-kWh lithium battery. It will get 41 miles per gallon (combined) once the battery runs dry and have 102 MPGe. Oh, and it has five seats, sort of. To compare, today's four-seat 2015 Volt has a 38-mile range from a 17.1-kWh battery in a powertrain that offers 37 mpg and 98 MPGe. So, across the board, there are notable improvements. Now that that's out of the way, let's talk story. General Motors will unveil the new Volt at the Detroit Auto Show later today, but it's been talking about how this new version – the first major plug-in hybrid vehicle to get a serious redo in the modern era – was crafted with reams and reams of data from first-gen Volt customers. At a preview event for journalists last week, GM executive chief engineer Pam Fletcher told Autoblog that these owners "gave us the recipe" to make the second-gen model. At the top of the request list was more range (check), more "fun-to-drive" behavior (check?) and a smoother and quieter experience (we'll assume a check here, given that the new 1.5-liter four-cylinder – the first North American application of this new engine family – should offer more power with less noise than the previous 1.4-liter, four-cylinder powerplant). Other customer-driven changes in the new Volt include a different place to store the charging cable (in the side of the trunk instead of under the load floor) and a new brake system with improved blended regenerative braking feel as well as driver-selectable regen levels. The requested 50-mile range comes from a new, lighter battery that has increased capacity from fewer cells (192 vs. 288) and a simplified control architecture. Along with the new battery, the electric drive unit is a two-motor deal that is up to 12 percent more efficient and 100 pounds lighter, while also being "tremendously smaller," notes Fletcher. It offers 294 pound-feet of torque and a maximum 149 horsepower of "motoring power" delivered to the wheels. GM says it has worked hard to reduced the amount of rare earth materials in these motors, and one of them doesn't use any at all. The new powertrain offers improved acceleration times, as well. The 2016 Volt can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 8.4 seconds, a seven-percent improvement, while the 0-30 mph time has been improved by 19 percent, down to 2.6 seconds. The new Volt is more conventional looking, but certainly not completely ordinary.

Best car infotainment systems: From UConnect to MBUX, these are our favorites

Sun, Jan 7 2024

Declaring one infotainment system the best over any other is an inherently subjective matter. You can look at quantitative testing for things like input response time and various screen load times, but ask a room full of people that have tried all car infotainment systems what their favorite is, and you’re likely to get a lot of different responses. For the most part, the various infotainment systems available all share a similar purpose. They aim to help the driver get where they're going with navigation, play their favorite tunes via all sorts of media playback options and allow folks to stay connected with others via phone connectivity. Of course, most go way beyond the basics these days and offer features like streaming services, in-car performance data and much more. Unique features are aplenty when you start diving through menus, but how they go about their most important tasks vary widely. Some of our editors prefer systems that are exclusively touch-based and chock full of boundary-pushing features. Others may prefer a back-to-basics non-touch system that is navigable via a scroll wheel. You can compare it to the phone operating system wars. Just like some prefer Android phones over iPhones, we all have our own opinions for what makes up the best infotainment interface. All that said, our combined experience tells us that a number of infotainment systems are at least better than the rest. WeÂ’ve narrowed it down to five total systems in their own subcategories that stand out to us. Read on below to see our picks, and feel free to make your own arguments in the comments. Best infotainment overall: UConnect 5, various Stellantis products Ram 1500 Uconnect Infotainment System Review If thereÂ’s one infotainment system that all of us agree is excellent, itÂ’s UConnect. It has numerous qualities that make it great, but above all else, UConnect is simple and straightforward to use. Ease of operation is one of the most (if not the single most) vital parts of any infotainment system interface. If youÂ’re expected to be able to tap away on a touchscreen while driving and still pay attention to the road, a complex infotainment system is going to remove your attention from the number one task at hand: driving. UConnect uses a simple interface that puts all of your key functions in a clearly-represented row on the bottom of the screen. Tap any of them, and it instantly pulls up that menu.

Chevy Volt sales drop in June, Nissan Leaf inches upwards

Tue, Jul 1 2014

Different month, same story. That's the gist of the monthly US sales numbers from the Chevy Volt and the Nissan Leaf. These were the first two mass-market plug-in vehicles to go on sale in the US and we've been comparing their sales numbers for what seems like ages now. So far, the 2014 tale of the tape shows the all-electric once again trumping the plug-in hybrid. The last time the Volt outsold the Leaf was in October 2013. Chevrolet sold 1,777 Volts in June. That was good enough to be the Volt's best sales month of the year, but it's down 34 percent from the 2,698 units sold in June 2013. In fact, it's on par with the 1,760 Volts sold in June 2012. Given the steady sales, General Motors might need to push up the release of the next-gen Volt to gin up excitement, especially if it also offers some of the things that current Volt drivers say they want improved: more range, a lower price and a fifth seat. GM also said it sold 85 Spark EVs in June, an increase of 215 percent over June 2013 Nissan sold 2,347 Leafs last month. The good news continues for Nissan, which says it sold 2,347 Leafs last month. That's an increase of 5.5 percent over 2013 numbers and makes 2014 the best June ever for Leaf sales. Let's credit Texas. Toby Perry, Nissan's director of EV sales and marketing, said in a statement that, "Since the Texas state incentive went into effect in May, we've seen a big jump in Leaf sales in the Austin, Dallas and Houston markets. Our dealers are telling us that they saw more traffic in their stores, and they had their best Leaf sales performance in the last weekend in June." Even with that increase, Atlanta remains the top Leaf market. Nissan has sold 12,736 Leafs in the US so far this year; Chevy 8,615 Volts. Our detailed monthly sales write-up of green cars in the US, including plug-in vehicles, hybrids and diesel cars, is coming soon. For now, we invite you to discuss these numbers in the Comments.
