Houston, Texas, United States
For Sale is my beautiful 1963 Chevrolet Nova SS! Yes it is a true SS model (Z03 on firewall tag). 1963 Novas only came with 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder engines. This one now has a 350-4V with a mild flat tappet cam, topped with an Edlebrock polished aluminum intake and 650 cfm carb with electric choke. An Accel billet distributor provides spark through MSD plug wires. Billet Specialties valve covers top off the heads that have roller tip rockers installed. Ceramic coated Rewarder headers handle the exhaust through Flowmaster mufflers. Entropy crossflow aluminum radiator with dual electric fans keeps the motor cool. The TH350 trans has a shift kit, 2500 stall converter, aluminum deep sump pan. A Ford nine inch rear axle with a posi, 3.55 gears and 31 spline axles plants the power to the ground through the new 15" x 7"steel rally wheels. Weld in subframe connectors join front to back underneath. The TCI front suspension has a manual rack and pinion Mustang II style coil spring front suspension. Steering is done with a new Flaming River billet steering wheel attached to a Flaming River stainless tilt column. Power 4-wheel disc brakes brings it to a stop. All new black SS interior has been installed including upholstery front and rear, door panels, quarter trim panels, carpet and headliner. A new set of Dakota Digital VHX gauges keep the driver informed constantly and light up beautifully at night. All the electrical runs through a new harness front to back. Battery has been relocated to the trunk and has 1 gauge positive and negative Ron Francis cables running forward to the high torque mini starter. Outside is a gorgeous blue metallic PPG base coat/clear coat paint over all rust free metal with silver rear cove. THERE IS NO RUST ANYWHERE ON THIS CAR! That is because the cowl hood, front fenders, doors, quarter panels, floor pans, trunk floor and outer wheel tubs have been replaced. This car was built as a driver and not a trailer car. It is not a concourse restoration but more a restomod. This car gets thumbs up every time out and holds its own at outdoor shows. If you want more pictures let me know what you want to see. This is a must see to appreciate the time and money that has been spent to revive this car from the dead. A little over 1900 miles on car since completion. It is driven almost weekly when nice weather permits so mileage will vary. With all the restoration and upgrades, you can't build it for what you can buy it for! Serious cash buyers only need to call me at 281-808-2757 with any questions or email me with your questions or request for more photos. Please make only reasonable offers. Thanks for looking!

EcoCar2 is on the hunt for a better, cleaner Chevy Malibu [w/video]
Thu, Jun 12 2014The students spent three years transforming an ordinary Chevy Malibu into a revolutionary vehicle. Not far from the building where General Motors once invented the Chevy Volt, a dozen or so college students are standing on the blacktop alongside a test track, watching a professional driver push the limits of a plug-in hybrid car they've built that's far more radical. These students, from Colorado State University, have spent the past three years transforming an ordinary Chevy Malibu into a revolutionary vehicle. At first glance, it still looks like a regular sedan. But under the hood, they've installed a hybrid powertrain that contains both hydrogen and electric power sources. Even by the standards of the Department of Energy competition they're participating in, it's an outlier. That's exactly what they had in mind. "We didn't want to come here and tell them how to build a better Volt," said Tom Bradley, faculty adviser for the Colorado State team. "They already know how to do that. We can tell them how to think about these possibilities in a whole new way." After three years of work, it all comes down to this. The Colorado State team was one of 15 that came to GM's Milford Proving Grounds last week for the final stretch of the EcoCar2 competition, which challenges regular college students who have no automotive experience to do nothing less than reinvent the American car. The teams have come from across North America, and include schools like Ohio State and Virginia Tech that have a long history of participating in similar competitions, and schools like the University of Washington and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University that are here for the first time. After three years of work, it all comes down to this. The teams have operated 24 hours a day for almost two weeks here at the Proving Grounds, running a gamut of tests that include a 310-point safety inspection, emissions and energy-consumption tests and road tests, in which professional GM drivers ensure they're road worthy. The winning team will be announced tonight in Washington D.C. Revolutionary cars, ordinary package While other green-car competitions encourage extreme designs, this one comes with a somewhat constraining twist: Yes, students must improve fuel economy and reduce emissions, but in the end, they still have to have a car that would appeal to mainstream customers. In practical terms, that means they must keep conveniences like air conditioning and trunk space.
GM tinkering with Silverado, Sierra model mix amidst strong early sales
Mon, 04 Nov 2013Variety, as they say, is the spice of life. That's a lesson that is currently being taught to General Motors, because despite a strong showing from its 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, the General's pickup sales still can't best those of cross-town rival Ford.
With 59,163 trucks moved, GM fell just over 1,000 units short of toppling Ford, and one of the main reasons for that, according to GM's chief sales analyst, was due to a lack of variety in the engines and body styles available on dealer lots. "We are still over-weighted toward crew-cab V8 trucks. Our light-duty mix will moderate over time as our launch progresses," said Kurt McNeil.
Loading dealers with the popular combination of the 5.3-liter V8 and the four-door, Crew Cab body style was intentional during the truck's launch, but as supplies of leftover 2013 models, which are being sold at heavy incentives, are beginning to wane, both budget-conscious and high-dollar buyers are looking elsewhere instead of at the volume model pickups.
Chevy's 6.6-liter Duramax is pretty much all new
Thu, Sep 29 2016To say there's a heated battle in heavy-duty pickups is an understatement, with Chevrolet, Ford, and Ram constantly trading blows of increased torque, horsepower, and towing capacity. The latest salvo is the revised, more powerful turbo diesel 6.6-liter Duramax V8 in the 2017 Chevy Silverado. It has 910 pound-feet of torque, an increase of 145, putting it nearly level with the Ford Super Duty. Here's a closer look at where those gains come from. How exactly did Chevrolet add all that torque plus 48 horsepower? The automaker essentially took a fine-tooth comb to the entire engine. Chevy says it changed 90 percent of the V8, and the cumulative effect of those small changes adds up to big increases. As you might guess, the turbocharger is updated. The larger unit features electric actuation of the variable nozzle turbine (VNT), and what Chevy calls a double axle cartridge mechanism that separates the VNT moving parts from the housing. That helps with heat performance as well, with a claim that the exhaust side of the turbo can run continuously up to 1,436 degrees Fahrenheit. Helping that cause are six exhaust gaskets made of Inconel - an nickel alloy that contains chromium and iron – and upgraded stainless steel for the exhaust manifold. Despite having the same cast iron cylinder block, albeit with some minor enhancements, the engine has new cylinder heads, pistons, piston pins, connecting rods, and crankshaft, which have all been upgraded to handle 20 percent higher cylinder pressures. Alongside the increase in pressure, Chevrolet also increased the cylinder head's structure with a honeycomb design. The pattern features high-strength aluminum with dual layer water jackets that not only improve strength, but also optimize water flow for better cooling. For 2017, the cylinder head also benefits from integrated plenum that aids the engine in getting more air under heavy loads. The cylinder head isn't the only component to get a minor update, as the pistons have a larger diameter pin for improved oil flow. The same detailed improvements has been bestowed to the humble connecting rods (second in our hearts only to the inanimate carbon rod). The new design has the bolts oriented roughly 45-degrees to the rod instead of parallel. The angle split design, as it's called allows for easier passage through the cylinder.
