First off, this is the personal vehicle of a 75 year old female friend of mine. She purchased this car when a close friend of hers died at age 95 in 1989.  She is now the 2nd owner. The car was garaged it's entire life with the exception of 3 years when it was simply in a carport. When I tell you this car RUNS and DRIVES like a brand new base model car, that is no exaggeration. I was driving it to my home doing about 45 and I braked HARD and the car did not pull or deviate from a straight path.  I booted it from a stop sign (just to see) and it smoked the tire for about 20 feet.  Runs great!  Shifts perfectly. Tires like new. Exhaust IS new. There is not a rippled panel on this car and not a door ding or scratch evident.  There IS rust starting in a few spots (pictured) and the rear fender wells at the bottom are rotted (ALL spots easily contained and easily repaired).  I banged all over the frame and it appears solid. The engine, tranny and ANY running gear have NEVER been touched or removed from the car. ALL original to the car.  The carb has been changed but the choke activated like it was new.  There is an aftermarket radio (plain jane) that plays well.  Crank windows, NO AC, no power nuthin but DOES have power steering cuz it drives AWESOME.  She has the metal GM plate that was issued with the car, the original manual, she even has every registration to the car since new (along with some McDonalds bags folded up in case she needed a rubbish bag).  If you were to put maybe up to a grand in new panels and paint and a new seat cover that a DOZEN places online list them for $239-279 COMPLETE, you'd have one heck of a nice dependable CLASSIC unmolested car. Trunk is solid with no rust, even at the spring towers.  I'm telling you this is a real survivor.  On the drive to my house from hers, the FIRST turn I took onto the main road.......FIRST turn I had a guy gawking and giving me the thumbs up.  Just a nice nice example of a car that LITERALLY was driven by two little old ladies.  Don't miss this chance.  I told her I'd offer it as an "auction" with the understanding that it IS being offered at a local Hot Rod Shop on their lot, so don't mess around.  If it sells there, the auction ends!  At her request I put a "buy it now" of $7500.  Contact me if you want to make a buy it now offer and I will propose it to her. She wants this SOLD so get serious.  Fly in to Worcester MA and I'll pick you up to see it if you want.  Ask questions and I'll be 100% honest, not only cuz of my 100% Ebay rating, but cuz I have no interest in it's sale, other than to help an elderly friend (and I am quite the car nut).  Again, good luck.   Fran

GM recalling 70k Chevy Malibus, Pontiac G6s over steering issue

Sun, Feb 15 2015

A problem with the power steering system in the Chevy Malibu and Pontiac G6 has prompted General Motors and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to issue a recall for an estimated 69,633 vehicles. The issue revolves around the electric power steering assist, which could suddenly fail and increase the risk of a crash, especially at low speeds where the power steering is most helpful. The recall affects 2006-2007 Chevy Malibu sedans and Malibu Maxx wagons (specifically those manufactured between April 1, 2006, and June 30, 2006), as well as the Pontiac G6 (which was offered as a sedan, coupe or convertible) from the same model years and manufactured from April 18, 2006, to June 30, 2006. Owners of the affected units can expect to hear from the manufacturer with instructions to bring in their vehicles to their local dealers to have the torque sensors in the power steering system replaced. RECALL Subject : Sudden Loss of Electric Power Steering , 1 INVESTIGATION(S) Report Receipt Date: FEB 04, 2015 NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V064000 Component(s): STEERING Potential Number of Units Affected: 69,633 Manufacturer: General Motors LLC SUMMARY: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2006-2007 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured April 1, 2006, to June 30, 2006, and 2006-2007 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured April 18, 2006, to June 30, 2006. In the affected vehicles, there may be a sudden loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist that could occur at any time while driving. CONSEQUENCE: If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash. REMEDY: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the torque sensor assembly, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is 14772. Note: This is an expansion of recall 14V-153 to cover additional vehicles built between April 1, 2006 and June 30, 2006. NOTES: Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Corvette Stolen In Detroit Returned To Owner After 33 Years

Wed, Jun 25 2014

A Detroit man had his stolen Corvette returned 33 years after it disappeared while parked on one of Detroit's main drags, according to ABC 7. The last time George Talley saw his 1979 Corvette was on a July day in 1981, when it disappeared from its parking spot on Jefferson Avenue in Detroit. He had given up hope of ever seeing his car again, until a phone call from AAA brought his sporty ride home. Authorities had come across a Corvette with a questionable VIN in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. When they ran the number Talley's stolen car report came up. The car is still in pretty good shape and only has 47,000 miles on the odometer. Talley wasn't sure how he could get the car back home, but General Motors stepped in and agreed to cover the cost of bringing the 'Vette home. Talley has always had a passion for Detroit-made muscle cars. "I've always liked Corvettes. It was attractive. The ladies like 'em," Talley told ABC 7.

GM recalling 521,817 cars in two campaigns

Tue, May 12 2015

General Motors is issuing two, separate recalls covering a total of 521,817 vehicles worldwide. The larger campaign covers 468,887 units of the 2011-2012 Chevrolet Malibu. Specifically, 437,045 of these are in the US, and the rest are outside the country. In these sedans, a steel cable that connects the seat belt to the vehicle can fatigue and separate. GM knows of 36 claims about the problem but only one minor injury. According to The Detroit News, this happened when a taxi driver hit his head. To fix things, dealers will replace the "outboard lap mounting bracket," which will move the tensioner rearward. They'll also inspect and if necessary replace the steel cable and lap pretensioner. In the second campaign, 52,930 examples the 2015 Chevy Colorado and 2015 GMC Canyon have seat frame attachment hooks that were installed incorrectly during assembly. GM hasn't received any reports of crashes, injuries, or fatalities about this problem. Dealers will inspect the affected trucks and repair as necessary. GM spokesperson Alan Adler told Autoblog that he didn't yet have a specific date when affected owners would receive official mailings about either of these recalls. GM Statement General Motors is recalling 48,309 2015 model year Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon midsize pickup trucks in the U.S. because certain seat frame attachment hooks were not properly attached to the vehicle body during assembly. Dealers will inspect the potentially affected seats for proper installation and repair if necessary. GM knows of no crashes, injuries or fatalities related to this condition. The total vehicle population of the recall is 52,930 including 4,620 vehicles sold in Canada. General Motors is recalling 437,045, 2011-2012 model year Chevrolet Malibus in the U.S. because the flexible steel cable that connects the safety belt to the vehicle can fatigue and separate over time as a result of occupant movement in the seat. Dealers will replace the outboard lap mounting bracket to relocate the tensioner slightly rearward. Dealers will inspect the cable and, if necessary, replace the lap pretensioner. GM knows of 36 claims, no crashes or fatalities and one minor injury reportedly related to the condition. The total vehicle population of the recall is 468,887 including Canada, Mexico and exports.
