I am selling my 1971 Chevrolet Nova Big Block.  I am listing this to the best of my knowledge.  If you have any questions, please ask.

First off, the body is in excellent shape.  The Nova does have a great restoration from the bottom up.  The car originally came from Nevada.  It is painted Mercedes silver and does have Super Sport ghost stripes on the cowl hood and trunk deck lid, which look amazing.  The hood is a 4" fiberglass cowl hood.  It still retains the factory hinges so you will not have a problem raising it like those full lift off hoods.  The glass is tinted for a more modern muscle look but can easily be removed if undesirable.  The chrome is in perfect shape and there are absolutely no pit marks or rust.  The grill is painted black for a very sleek look.  There is one very small paint chip in the corner of the inside fender edge where the hood closes.  There is also a tiny slit in the passenger side rear quarter above the side marker lens, but honestly is not noticeable unless your face is a few inches directly in front of it.  I have also started to see some spotting in the lower inner passenger door but is not bad at all.  These are all shown in the photo's.  Other than that, the body is super straight and in excellent shape.  I have taken shots of the underside up on a lift.  As you can see, the underside is very clean and well maintained.  It does have subframe connectors welded into place.  My body guy said the rear quarters are all original because they still have the factory spot welds on them.  When I had the car up on the lift he said the underside looks immaculate.  The rear suspension does have blocks on the leaf springs to lower the rear down a bit. It does look great with the rear wheels tucked inside the wheel well, but can easily be removed if you want to raise the rear back up a bit to level out the front.  Pretty much everything on this car is new.  New springs, shocks, all polyurethane bushings, calipers, lines, chrome, trim, interior etc.  This car is done and done right.

The interior has also been redone.  The trunk is fully carpeted in black carpet and includes the battery in the trunk for better weight transfer.  The interior carpet is brand new. The headliner is brand new and the seats have been newly recovered and refoamed.  Absolutely no cracks, tears, rips at all.  The front seat is a bench seat and looks great inside the car.  Door panels are new with no tears or rips.  Dash pad has no cracks and the metal portion of the dash has been sprayed the same color as the car and looks great inside.  The rear deck is also fully covered.  The interior is all new and looks great!  There is no radio or emergency brake assembly included.  It does include a Grant steering wheel.  All flashers, turn signals, parking lights and headlights work. It will need exterior wipers and a wiper motor if you plan on driving it in the rain.

The motor is a 454 and the transmission is a TH400 that is an automatic on the column.  The Hooker Super Competition headers are freshly ceramic coated and the exhaust consists of 2.5" Flowmaster mufflers that turn down at the rear housing.  The rear is a 10 bolt.  Brakes are discs in the front & drums in the rear.  No power brakes or power steering.  For the cooling, you have a thick aluminum radiator with aluminum coolant overflow tank.  A Moroso electric water pump helps cool this beast.  The fuel pump is also electric feeding the 750cc Holley carburetor.  This is a 4150 HP carb # 82751.  The valve covers that sit on top of the big block are real nice tall fabricated covers.  They real pop when you open the hood!  The air cleaner is a K&N and also has the lid as a filter for sucking in massive amounts of air.  The intake manifold is a high rise aluminum intake.  It does also have a Miloden oil pan holding the oil.  Ignition consists of MSD 8.5mm wires and distributor.

The 5 spoke wheels are 15" polished aluminum Billet Specialties and the tires are BF Goodrich Radial T/A's with plenty of tread left.  The rears are P255/60R15 and the fronts are P155/80R15.

Overall this car is very very nice and can be a daily cruiser or a track car if you wish.  This is a perfect car to take to cruises or car shows.  I haven't had this car for a long time.  I bought it for my father and myself to enjoy but unfortunately his health took a turn for the worse and he passed away before we could enjoy it.  The car has new paint, interior and chrome/trim.  It is a very very nice looking and sounding car.  Trust me, you will not be disappointed. Lots of money was invested in this car and it was done right.

It has a clean & clear title in the state of Pennsylvania.  You can plan on shipping this or picking it up in person.  If you have any questions, please ask.  There is a $500 non-refundable deposit after the auction ends if you are the winning bidder.  This Nova will be sold as is, with no returns and no warranty.  I have included a lot of pictures and described it to the best of my knowledge.  Thanks and happy bidding!

Question of the Day: What's the most irritating car name?

Wed, Mar 9 2016

You hear a lot about how the Chevrolet Nova was a sales flop in Mexico because "No va" means "it doesn't go" in Spanish; in fact, the Nova sold pretty well south of the border, and in any case most Spanish-speakers know that "Nova" means "new" in Latin and Portuguese. However, General Motors doesn't deserve to be let off the hook for bad car names, because the Oldsmobile Achieva— no doubt inspired by the excruciating "coffee achievers" ads of the 1980s— scrapes the biggest fingernails down the screechiest chalkboard in the US-market car-name world. That is, unless you think Daihatsu's incomprehensible choice of Charade was worse. Meanwhile, Japanese car buyers could get machines with cool names like Mazda Bongo Friendee or Honda Life Dunk. It's just not fair! So, what car name drives you the craziest? Related Video: Auto News Design/Style Chevrolet Honda Mazda Daihatsu Automotive History questions car names

Recharge Wrap-up: EV torque secrets, UC Davis maps future of biofuels

Fri, Jul 25 2014

A UC Davis white paper maps out "Three Routes Forward for Biofuels," balancing investment risk with carbon benefits. The first option is "incremental," in which we tinker with the existing biofuel manufacturing infrastructure for small improvements over time. The "transitional" plan suggests integrating cellulosic production and other innovations with existing operations. The third route, called "leapfrogging," would mean building refineries based on new technology such as cellulosic and algae-based biofuels. The paper suggests ways the US could use these three routes together in different areas, and predicts the payoffs in terms of carbon emissions could be significant if the right people are willing to risk the capital. After all, financial advisers are always telling investors to diversify their portfolios to manage risk and rewards in the same way. Read more over at the UC Davis Institute of Transportation Studies. The Formula E Long Beach ePrix will offer free admission. The seventh round of the inaugural all-electric race season, which was moved from Los Angeles to the streets of Long Beach, will offer fans free grandstand and general admission. The race, which takes place on April 5, 2015, will use a 1.6-mile portion of IndyCar's Grand Prix of Long Beach. Read more at LA Times. Polaris is now offering its 2015 GEM electric vehicles, including the new street-legal eM1400 LSV. The passenger and utility vehicles come in two- to six-passenger configurations, many of which are street legal on roads with posted speed limits of up to 35 miles per hour. The eM1400 LSV utility vehicle seats two, offers 1,250 pounds of payload, 1,250 pounds of towing capacity, a top speed of 25 mph and a range of up to 45 miles. Its on-board charger plugs into any standard 110-volt outlet. Read more at Hybrid Cars and check out all the different configurations yourself at the Polaris website. In EVs, more torque does not always equal faster. Green Car Reports found this out when driving the Fiat 500e (with 147 pound-feet) against the similarly weighted Chevrolet Spark EV (with 400 pound-feet). The secret is, at least in part, in the gearing. The Fiat has a 9.6:1 reduction gear, making it quicker at lower speeds despite having far less available torque, while the Chevy uses a 3:1 ratio. The trade-off though, is in top speed. Furthermore, Chevy electronically limits the torque delivery at low speeds, as 400 pound-feet is a lot of launch for the little Spark EV to handle.

GM profits threatened by glut of pickups

Wed, 05 Dec 2012

Automotive News reports that General Motors may slash production or ramp up discounts in order to deal with an oversupply of pickup trucks. GM currently has more than double the standard supply of pickups, and the vehicles are threatening to dampen the automaker's profits for 2013. Typically, automakers try to sustain a 60- to 75-day supply of vehicles, but GM is currently loaded with a 139-day supply, as of last month. At the end of November, the automaker was sitting on 245,853 units.
The manufacturer says that it will adjust production accordingly before laying any incentives on the profitable pickups. Even so, there's some concern that the inventory swell could hurt the roll-out of the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. GM actually began slowly stepping back production in August, but it's clear the company will take further action as it heads toward the end of the year and into the next. Analysts predict the automaker could reduce pickup manufacturing by nearly half in the first quarter of 2013.
That still may not be enough to keep GM from laying extra cash on the Silverado and GMC Sierra. While the company's incentive spending was down in November compared to the same month in 2011, both the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 saw double-digit percentage increases in sales last month while the Silverado and Sierra numbers slid compared to a year prior. Incentive spending could help move more trucks and add some balance to the GM inventory surge.
