1970 Nova Ss 350 on 2040-cars
Tyrone, New York, United States
Running and driving 1970 Nova SS 350. A real Super Sport car and not made up. I know the previous owners to the early '70s and I have owned it for approximately ten years. It was last driven at the end of 2009 when it was taken apart for body repair. The body exterior has been stripped to bare metal. It comes with new full quarter panels and tail light panel. It was a complete car minus the console with gages that it originally came with. There is no exhaust system now from the headers back and the 350 front fender emblems are gone but all the other trim is there. The original color is Green Mist Poly with a black vinyl roof and it came with a Sandalwood bucket seat interior. The original buckets were stolen and replaced with '69 GTO seats. Carpet and headliner are gone but it has the headliner boughs. The floor was cut for a Super Shifter long ago. The body is very solid overall but has some rust through around the windshield frame and upper dash panel. The rear window frame is fine. Some small holes in the trunk floor, some small dents here and there. The front end, doors, rockers, trunk lid and floors are very solid. It comes with all the glass including a never installed new windshield. It has a factory in-dash tachometer that was not working. The odometer reads 79,000 plus miles which I think is close judging by pedal wear and other indications. All lights worked on the car when last driven. The original SS steering wheel is rough and it has an old custom wheel on it now. The engine is a stock 350 from a '75 Camaro with a fiberglass fan, Accel Super Coil, Appliance headers, 390 Holley, Edelbrock intake and valve covers. It has the original Muncie M-21 Transmission and a Hurst shifter designed for the console. Hayes clutch and transmission work great. It has the original 12-bolt posi-traction rear axle, 4.11 gears, Lakewood traction bars, finned aluminum cover and air shocks. Old Motion Performance front shocks. Brake parts and u-joints were all replaced. Newer 15x4 / 15x7 American Torque Thrust wheels and like new BFG tires with just a few hundred miles on them. The battery tray is temporarily bolted to the frame using existing holes so the car can be driven with the front clip off. I've tried to show the condition of the body in the pictures and have many more if requested. This was a tight, good driving car when last driven. Glad to answer any questions or send more detailed photos. |

EcoCar3 will convert Camaro to bitchin' eco rides
Sat, Apr 26 2014In the 47-year-history of the Chevrolet Camaro, there have been countless college-age kids spending a ton of time getting under the hood and souping 'em up. Now, General Motors is adding a twist to the concept by donating 16 Camaros for the EcoCar challenge that puts university teams together to wring out better fuel-efficiency out of various vehicles. No word on whether there will be donuts on anyone's lawn, as suggested by 80's punks the Dead Milkmen, but the idea's never a bad one. EcoCar3 will feature 16 teams such as Arizona State, Penn State, Ontario's University of Waterloo and, of course, Detroit's Wayne State University. They'll spend the next four years "[reducing] environmental impact, while maintaining the muscle and performance expected from this iconic American car," as the EcoCar organizers say. The goal is to maintain body design and safety standards while boosting efficiency and lowering emissions, but the actual process is far more complicated than that description suggests. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) and Bosch are among the sponsors of the contest, which is also put on by the US Department of Energy and managed by Argonne National Laboratory. Penn State won Year Two of the three-year EcoCar 2 competition with its E85 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle converted out of a Chevy Malibu. The grand-prize winner of EcoCar2 will be announced in June. Check out the EcoCar3 website and see the announcement video below for more details. This content is hosted by a third party. GM execs fired over fraudulent India emissions testing
Mon, 29 Jul 2013General Motors hadn't had a recall in India since 1995. That changed when it was discovered that certain employees were playing tricks with local emissions testing in order to ensure passing grades for engines. More than ten GM Powertrain employees in India and the US have been let go over the ensuing emissions flap, including Sam Winegarden, VP of global engine engineering, a man who has been with the company since 1969, leading development of some marquee powerplants.
According to Automotive News, an internal investigation revealed that employees "violated testing procedures," sometimes swapping specially prepared low-emissions engines during testing regimes for the Chevrolet Tavera SUV equipped with the 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter engines. Employees were also manipulating weights in order to get vehicles placed into different emissions categories. The discovery has led to GM recall the 114,000 Taveras produced over an eight-year period and halting their production and sale.
The Economic Times of India reports that the issue is due to "a faulty component." GM has developed a solution to the issue, and once it is validated in testing and approved by the Indian authorities, the recalled vehicles will be fixed at dealers and production will resume.
2016 Chevy Volt will have more EV range, bigger battery
Tue, Oct 28 2014Meet the new Volt, not the same as the old Volt. That appears to be the story when General Motors introduces the 2016 Chevy Volt at the Detroit Auto Show in January. Today we're getting some more details on the guts of the new plug-in hybrid, and it turns out they're going to be much improved from the current Volt, which first went on sale at the end of 2010. Sure, the first-gen Volt did get some improvements along the way (a slightly larger battery pack, lane departure warnings) but the new Volt – which will go on sale in the second half of 2015 – marks the first time GM has been able to return to the drawing board and really make the improvements that its customers want. That's how Larry Nitz, GM's executive director of vehicle electrification explained it to AutoblogGreen today when explaining the all-new Voltec extended range electric vehicle (EREV) powertrain. "In the Gen 2 is we gave the engine a little more power, a little more torque, a little more displacement, more capability." – Larry Nitz Nitz said that the new Volt will be better in almost every sense: a bigger battery, longer EV-only range, 20 percent better acceleration in the low speed range and higher overall efficiency. This is due, in part, to the Volt's two motors being able to both act as generators and power the car. As we noted this morning, the 2016 Volt will use a larger, 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, a version of which is already used in the Chinese-market Cruze. Nitz said that this has a number of benefits, including more power and quieter operation. "Some people would say, why did you make [the first-gen engine] so big. I would say, why did you make it so small?" he said. "It works good, our customers love it, but the reality is that if you go a little bit off and use the car a little harder, you can get the engine to need to operate at a higher speed. In an EV, that's quite noticeable. So, what we did in the Gen 2 is we gave the engine a little more power, a little more torque, a little more displacement, more capability and what it has marginally enabled is not only is it more efficient but it's also quieter." Nitz wouldn't talk about how the new powertrain might affect the two other products that use the Volt's underpinnings – the Cadillac ELR and the Opel Ampera – but if you've got a quieter option, we assume that's something ELR drivers would enjoy. But that's a story for another day.
