1970 Chevrolet Nova Ss 396/375hp Gasser Since New Zl-1 Engine Copo Yenko on 2040-cars
Western Springs, Illinois, United States
1970 Nova SS original 396/375hp car converted to a Gasser in 1970 after being driven 1,000 miles. Have Protect-0-Plate, Dealer Invoice, Broadcast Sheet, Orig. Insurance card, Magazines it was featured in, Orig. Dealer Key FOB and trunk sticker, Original 1971, 1972, and 1973 Illinois Lic. Plates (1972 "427 060" plate on car now), and other documentation. In 1972 Popular HotRodding magazine featured the car and named it the "Street Pro". The engine was on the cover of their Engine Annual in 1973 (it had an iron 427 at that time). I purchased the car from the orig. owner who owned it for all but two of the 40 years before I purchased it in 2010. The car sat in heated storage for 35 years with no engine, trans, or differential and had 2,300 miles. Changes from then to now: Hood scoop and ladder bars gone (still have the bars). The car has a new professionally built 427 Zl-1 (stroked to 497 c.i.), new AutoGear M22 Rockcrusher 4 Speed, new Strange Engineering Dana 60 diff. (like it had in 1970 except a 3.73 gear instead of a 5.13 gear - yikes!), and all the basics needed after 40 years of sitting which were a NOS fuel tank (sumped as back in the day), Stainless brake and fuel lines, new fuel pump, new Wilwood front disk brakes, new master cylinder. Original paint, original interior (Dash has 3 built-in gauges. I have a NOS dash cluster if want stock), NO body mods except hole in hood (I have an original used SS louvered hood, too). Underside was painted black when brand new. Not a spec of rust, no flaws on paint except what is original from 1970, one small ding on body. Near flawless every where. The engine runs on pump gas and was Dyno Tuned to the max! Idles at 900 rpm, runs like a mild engine until throttled. Chassis Dyno sheet shows 625hp at the back tires (which equates to 750hp at the crank). High-end parts every where: Callies "2000 hp" stroker crank, Oliver Billet Steel rods, JE 11 to1 Gas Ported pistons, full CNC Dart heads, GM ZL-1 block, Milodon oil pan, Custom designed roller cam, enlarged Jesel roller lifters, Jesel shaft-mount roller rocker arms (not the cheap $1,000 base ones either), aluminum flywheel and dual disk clutch (can push down with your fingers), Rockcrusher has all upgrade options, original 1970 Hurst shifter, Chromemoly yoke, 4" alum. driveshaft, Detroit TruTrac upgraded posi, 35 spline axles, 4" Electronic Dumps, 3" Stainless Steel handmade exhaust by The Roadster Shop. The Roadster Shop did the fuel system, brake system and Dyno work. The car highway drives with one finger on the steering wheel. It is quiet inside the car, no rattles or annoying noises - just like new because it is. Whan the dumps are opened with the touch of a switch the horsepower shakes the whole car and it's like a different vehicle - lots of fun! You are welcome to inspect the car. It is on a lift so you can see everything clearly. Thanks for your interest. Questions for interested bidders, call Joel 847 363-1874. |

General Motors CEO Provides Few Details In Appearance Before Congress
Wed, Apr 2 2014It was only two months ago that Mary Barra, freshly crowned as the new General Motors chief executive officer, visited Washington DC as an esteemed guest of First Lady Michelle Obama for the State of the Union address. On Tuesday, Barra returned to the Capitol under more strained circumstances. For more than two contentious hours, she took questions from members of a House of Representatives subcommittee investigating General Motors years-long delay in initiating a recall of millions of vehicles that contained a defect that has killed at least 13 people. Why did GM accept faulty ignition switches that were below the company's set specfications? Why did GM learn about the problem in 2001 yet take no action until 2014? Will GM compensate victims' families even though the company's bankruptcy may limit its liability? Those were a few of the questions members of the House Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee asked. Few concrete answers were forthcoming. For her part, Barra sidestepped most of the questions, saying she wouldn't have information needed to answer them until an internal review is completed. David Friedman, the administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, testified after Barra. The biggest news that emerged from the hearing was that General Motors has retained attorney Kenneth Feinberg to advise the company on its civil and legal responsibilities. He has made a career of resolving disputes and serving in a 'fixer' role, serving as the chief of the federal government's September 11th Victim Compensation Fund, as an administrator of compensation fund for victims of the BP Deepwater Horizon disaster and a similar fund for victims of the Boston Marathon bombing. Barra, who has been GM's CEO since January but been with the company since 1980, expects to meet with Feinberg on Friday, and have a concrete plan within the next 30-60 days. Yet Barra would not say for certain Tuesday that GM would compensate the victims at all. Despite repeated questions from Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.), Barra did not outline the company's intentions. "I assume GM is hiring (Feinberg) to help identify the size of claims and then compensate the victims? Is that right," DeGette asked. "Is GM willing to put together some kind of a compensation fund for these victims that Mr. Feinberg will then administer?" "We've hired him to help assess the situation," Barra replied. "So really, there's no money involved at this point," DeGette asked.
Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 concept suggests a diesel off-road future
Thu, Nov 20 2014"It takes the Colorado to a whole new place." – Mark Reuss The Chevrolet Colorado looks set to gain a more capable off-road version, with the company previewing a potential design direction with a ruggedized concept Wednesday at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Called the Colorado ZR2, the concept brings back the name used on off-road-tuned S-10 and Blazer models in the 1990s and 2000s. The ZR2 has a track that's four inches wider than the Colorado Z71, which is currently the line's most capable off-roader. The ZR2 is fitted with a new grille, power-dome hood, custom wheel flares and off-road-style fascia that reduces overhang and has flip-out aluminum tow hooks. It's all slathered in an outdoorsy hue dubbed Cyprus Green. The are electronic locking front and rear differentials, skid plates and mono-tube coilover shock absorbers. It all rolls (or crawls) on 275/65R18 off-road tires wrapped around custom 18-inch aluminum wheels. There's also a spare tire assembly mounted in the bed, which has a spray-in liner and 48-inch lift jack should things go afoul on the trail. "It takes the Colorado to a whole new place," Mark Reuss, General Motors executive vice president of global product development, said at the reveal. Power comes from the 2.8-liter Duramax diesel engine making 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. This engine will arrive later in the year in the production Colorado. While the ZR2 remains only a concept, it suggests a new path for the Colorado – one we hope Chevy decides to take. Chevrolet Introduces Colorado ZR2 Concept Aggressively styled, more capable and driven by new 2.8L Duramax diesel engine LOS ANGELES – Chevrolet today introduced the Colorado ZR2 concept – a vision of how Chevrolet could take the all-new midsize truck's off-road capability to the next level. It also showcases the new 2.8L Duramax diesel engine that will arrive in the Colorado lineup later next year. The aggressively styled concept builds on the capabilities of the production Colorado Z71 and advances the legacy of Chevrolet's previous ZR2 production models. "From the bold stance to the trail-ready special equipment, the Colorado ZR2 is all about the fun of driving where the pavement ends – and doing it in characteristic Chevy style," said Tony Johnson, Colorado marketing manager.
Next-gen GM SUVs caught wearing new boxy bodies [w/video]
Wed, 15 May 2013We recently drove the brand-new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and found it to be vastly improved compared to the outgoing model. And now that The General's pickup trucks have been squared away, it's time to focus our attention onto their passenger-friendly companions, the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon (above).
Our spy photographers have passed along a huge smattering of photos (and a video), showing the new SUVs out testing. Both the short- and long-wheelbase models were spied, and while the overall shape of the vehicles hasn't changed all that much, we expect the updates to be substantial. In addition to new powertrain options, like GM's new small-block V8, we expect the interiors of both SUVs to get massive makeovers, providing better materials throughout their cabins and quieter, more refined environments. We even hear that some trick new suspension developments may be in store for upper-end models.
Visually, these spy shots allow us to see a couple of new details on the SUVs' front and rear fascias, including LED running lamps on the Yukon and some interesting LED taillamp treatments. Of course, the obvious third party missing from this set of photos is the Cadillac Escalade, but as we reported earlier, GM is working to further differentiate the 'Slade from the rest of the fullsize SUV lineup, and is working to make the new model "much less ostentatious."
