I am the original owner of this collector's item. It was purchased new from Lou Grubb Chevrolet
in Scottsdale, Arizona in 1988 and has been in the Phoenix, AZ area ever since. It was not driven very much as denoted by the
low mileage and was garaged from 1988 through 2007. In August of 2008 the then white Monte Carlo SS
with its original red lettering and pin stripes was stolen out of my driver in
Tempe, AZ. It had approximately 062K
miles on the odometer at that time. The
car thieves broke into vehicle and broke the ignition switch on the steering
column. I know this because the chrome
plated pieces of the switch were left in my driveway. In July of 2013 the Phoenix police recovered
the now gray vehicle. Police had it
towed to a storage lot and it was placed in a covered parking space. After a long Phoenix legal court processing system
and two court appearances, I was awarded the Monte Carlo in May of 2014. Through a few visits to the DMV Level 3
inspection stations for re-VINing, a single visit to the emissions station, and
a visit to the General DMV office, the Monte Carlo is now registered and
insured as of August of 2014. History typically means a lot for classic auto values so available with the
sale of the vehicle are the police reports, the recovery report (good reading
material that gives an idea who the thieves might be yet they haven’t been
prosecuted), the CarFax that shows original and current VIN number and the
CarFax showing the bogus VIN number, and the court processing paper work. These items are all public record. Car was in very good shape in 2008, matter of fact it was just serviced a
few days before it was stolen. The shape
of the car today has some miscellaneous interior cosmetic and functional issues. Based on the bogus VIN CarFax record for registration
dates and the facts in the police recovery report the car was driven very
little since the day it left my driveway. Exterior and interior cosmetic issues are shown in the pictures but to
highlight some items the carpet is worn from AZ heat, the cloth header is missing, the
original radio was swapped out for with an after market system, the dash is
badly cracked, and some trim pieces are missing. Functional issues include AC needs a recharge. From the thieves fixing the
compromised ignition the horn doesn’t work, directional switch is stiff,
sometimes the key takes some doing to pull it out of the ignition, and odometer
and speedometer are broken. I threw out original
keys a few years back so there are no keys for T-Tops, driver’s door, or glove
box. Trunk and passenger door lock
assembly were changed out by thieves but unfortunately keys are not common
between the two. VIN number is located
on the driver’s door jam and not in the normal location of lower corner of driver
side windshield. All other original VIN
indications have been removed from vehicle except for the one on the
transmission. Transmission VIN is how
the vehicle was identified by recovering Phoenix police officer. The engine sounds really good and the power of the 1988 Monte Carlo SS is
present. It is a fun car to drive and it
always gets a second look by car enthusiasts.
While stopped at a traffic light or at the gas station you’ll get
positive feedback on this unique and sharp looking vehicle. The Monte Carlo is being sold "AS IS" and once money transaction
takes place the deal is final, no returns. An over-night non-refundable deposit of 10% of sales price is required via
bank to bank transfer at close of auction. For example, similar to Chase Bank
QuickPay process. Balance of funds must be a cash exchange at Chase bank. At the bank a notary will confirm our
identities for the bill of sale and title exchange. All above mentioned paper work materials are yours
if desired. Seller will take AZ plates off of vehicle and if required the
Seller will supply a one-day registration for Buyer. For one-day registration the Buyer must
follow AZ restrictions for temporary one-day registration and Buyer must show
proof of insurance. Buyer
must supply transportation for the vehicle. The vehicle
has been sitting for some time so driving it a long distance without servicing
is not recommended. |

Chevy gets cracking on Cruze EV fleet testing
Tue, 21 Sep 2010Chevrolet Cruze EV - Click above for high-res image gallery
The Chevrolet Volt hasn't yet gone on sale, but General Motors is looking at ways of expanding its electric vehicle lineup. Chevy, along with partner LG, is employing a group of all-electric cars in the form of the Cruze. The sedans are part of a demonstration fleet which is located in Seoul, South Korea and is being used to provide data in an electric vehicle research project. The goal is to gather information on driving patterns and charging behavior in addition to consumer acceptance.
The Cruze EVs, along with some Daewoo Lacetti Premieres EVs, are the first fleet of full-size electric vehicles and should provide invaluable information for The General. Staying full-size means not sacrificing cargo space, so the battery pack is mounted to the underbody, leaving the trunk area open for plenty recyclable, canvas grocery bags.
Recharge Wrap-up: U of M wins Solar Challenge, family attempts record-breaking e-bike ride
Thu, Aug 14 2014The University of Michigan Solar Car Team has won the 2014 American Solar Challenge. It is the team's eighth national championship, its fifth in a row, and its first using Siemens' product lifecycle management (PLM) software. The race took place over 1,722 miles and seven days traveling across eight states. The team's car, called "Quantum," outpaced the nearest competitor by four hours. Looking forward, Michigan Solar Car Project Manager Pavan Naik says, "The switch to Siemens tools will give us the ability to model and simulate everything and truly allow us to optimize the performance of our new vehicle. As we start on our quest to win the World Solar Challenge in 2015, we'll be leveraging a full complement of PLM solutions." Read more in the press release below. The EcoCar3 competition, in which teams will convert Chevrolet Camaros into hybrid electric cars, begins in September. The various college teams will have four years to lessen the car's environmental impact as much as possible while maintaining performance and, of course, that cool Camaro design. EcoCar3, which is put on by the US Department of Energy and General Motors, kicks off with a workshop in Novi, Michigan from September 16 - 18. Read more at the DOE website at the dedicated EcoCar3 site or watch the announcement video at our previous post. Zap and Jonway Auto are shifting to a high rate of EV production. Zap already has two lines creating the Urbee EV to met demand, and is switching over a third to make electric minivans and SUVs. The company aims to produce 30,000 EVs by 2015 for the Chinese market. Zap says it has a backlog of 25,000 Urbee orders. Read more in the press release below. A family of four hopes to make a world record-breaking, 6,000-mile electric bike journey this fall. The family, which recently drove from Argentina to Montana in a pickup with a camper, will ride from Montana to Maine, then down the East Coast to Florida in an attempt to break the record for longest electric bicycle ride. They'll use two bikes. The Father, Thomas, will ride one of the bikes carrying one of the children, while the rest of the family rides in a support vehicle, with the mother, Dylan, riding the second bike when they can find others to drive. They have started a crowdfunding campaign for some of the equipment needed to document the trip. See the video below or read more at Treehugger.
How Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra will take on the Ford F-150 profit machine
Fri, Aug 10 2018FORT WAYNE, Ind. — When General Motors engineers were developing the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks, some of them joined public tours of Ford's Dearborn, Mich., factory to watch aluminum-bodied F-Series trucks go down the assembly line. The redesign of the Ford F-Series trucks, launched in 2014, set a new standard for fuel economy and lightweight vehicle construction. But armed with stopwatches and trained eyes, the GM engineers believed they saw problems. "They had a real hard time getting those doors to fit," Tim Herrick, the executive chief engineer for GM truck programs, told Reuters. His team did more intelligence gathering. They bought and tore apart Ford F-Series doors sold as repair parts. Their conclusion: GM could cut weight in its trucks for a lower cost using doors made of a combination of aluminum and high-strength steel that could be thinner than standard steel, shaving off kilograms in the process. These pounds-and-pennies decisions will have major implications in the highest-stakes game going in Detroit: dominance in the world's most profitable vehicle market, the gasoline-fueled large pickup segment. What's more, GM is banking on strong sales of overhauled 2019 Silverados and GMC Sierras to fund its push into automated and electric vehicles — a business many investors see as the auto industry's long-term future. The risks are high given the hits automakers have taken from U.S. President Donald Trump's trade policies. Rising aluminum prices spurred by Trump's tariffs are driving up costs on the Ford's F-Series, while rising steel and aluminum prices likewise drag on GM results. GM also has a significant risk should the United States, Mexico and Canada fail to agree on a new NAFTA trade deal, given GM trucks built at its Silao, Mexico, factory could face a 25 percent tariff if NAFTA collapses. Major profit per truck Interviews with GM executives and a tour at its factory here in northwest Indiana provide a detailed look inside GM's plan for the most important vehicles in its global lineup. These big pickups are everything Tesla's Model 3 or Chevy's Bolt electric car is not. The mostly steel body is bolted to the truck's steel frame, rather than the one-piece body and frame electric vehicles. The majority of trucks will have a V-8 gasoline engine powering the rear wheels — like the classic GM cars of the 1950s. Some Silverados will have new four-cylinder engines, but there is no electric or hybrid offering as of now.
