1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Luxuary Sport 47K Original Miles

Up for sale is my SUPER CLEAN 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Luxuary Sport with 47,700+ original miles. She has never seen the snow while I have owned her and is ALWAYS garaged. Below is an honest description of her, both good and bad!

Engine and Mechanics

This car has a very good and strong original factory running 4.3L V-6 engine with only 47,700+ original miles. Starts right up even in the cold winter weather and idles steady and even, as well as a smooth shifting transmission. She handles great, with no pulling to either side, on the streets as well as the highway, with no shaking as you pick up speed, even when the cruise control is activated. When starting up, this car has a nice steady hum with no rattling at all.

I am an old school car lover, especially of the 1970s-1980s era, and believe in treating my classics as my babies. In saying this, I personally always maintenance my cars on a regular basis or send them to my personal mechanic who is a family owned business and has been working on my cars for 15 years. I use a plus grade of gasoline in her and stick with the same brand all the time.

Interior

Her interior, in the front and the back, are plush burgundy and all factory original and in very good condition. The sunroof is sealed tight and secure with a tint on the glass. The windows are clean and free from cracks also with a tint. The dash is in good condition with no show of sun damage, but there are two vents that are missing a few teeth. This is an inexpensive and super easy fix. The ashtray and cigarette lighter are both in good working order as well as the storage compartment on the passenger side, which locks. The carpet is clean with show of normal wear as well as the interior door fabric, with a slight show of sun discoloration, but nothing huge. The seats are a plush bench seat with the separation of the drivers and two passenger seating areas, also with a slight show of sun discoloration on the headrest, but again nothing huge. All the lights and switches work inside the car and on the dash as well as the factory radio and tape player. The wheel is in great condition with no missing parts and tilts with ease as well as a strong blowing horn. The heater and air conditioning mecanisims work as well as the cruise control. The interior of the trunk is in great condition with no holes or rust spots, and has a spare tire and jack that look brand new. The only flaws inside the car are the headliner, which is not ripped but drooping. Would just need to be re-glued, and the spring in the sunroof latch keeps popping out when being opened. I believe it to be just a worn spring or just to short of a spring, but the sunroof does open and close and lock. Other then these two flaws she is all original on the inside and in beautiful condition and very comfortable!!!

Exterior

The exterior is in flawless condition with all of the chrome, trunk lock, door locks and handles, and emblems in place and in good working order. The weather stripping is thick and in good shape, the doors close solidly. There is absoulutly NO DENTS OR DINGS OR RUST ANYWHERE on this car. The windshield is super clean with good looking and working wipers. The side view mirrors are clean and scratch free. All the lights and lenses and reflectors are intact, in place and very clean with no haze. This car also is equipped with a third brake light that also works. The bumpers are not dented and cracked nor missing parts. The door jams are rust free as well as along the bottom of the doors.  This car on the exterior is all original except for the paint job, rims and muffler. The cars factory color was burgundy, but I had it painted a custom Pearl white that does not flip to a different color other then a brighter white in the sunlight. It has also been painted along the bottom of the car with a scratch resistance compound that keeps the rocks or any other hard objects from denting the bottom of the vehicle.  The paint job was done by my personal mechanic who also owns a paint shop which is also family owned, and yes they are very much professional painters. No amatur job here. All of the door jams, trunk jams and the underside of the trunk, as well as the jams under the hood have all been painted pearl white, so there is no burgundy showing anywhere. The rims are size 15s and came off of my el camino which the rim has also been painted the custom pearl white to match the car, and the tires are brand new. The muffler came equipped with a single pipe which I changed to a custom dual exhaust system. She also comes with an extra gas tank. Like I said before, she is flawless on the outside and a beauty to look at weather clean or dirty. She's just a beastie looking car!!!

Overall

She is a very attractive piece of history, aging at 26 years of age and has treated me extremely well as I have her. She is very reliable and I would not hesitate to drive her long distance if need be. She has always been garaged, since I've had her, year round and has only been driven in the summer months. She comes from a smoke free home and all the maintenance and custom items I've put on her have been done in the 2011-2012 year. As I said, she has NEW... BRAKES, TIRES, PAINT JOB AND EXHAUST SYSTEM, and her flaws are... the droopy headliner, two vents missing some teeth and the sunroof latch with a worn spring, but still opens, closes and locks the sunroof.

As you may see this year and style Monte Carlo around, there are not many that are still somewhat factory original, which have not been modified with hydraulics or huge rims and tires or loud systems. I mean just the european head lights alone are what make her unique. I'm not looking to bank big on her, but I know how rare she is in this original condition and I hope that whoever wins her will see the beauty that she is and feel as thoe the money they spent was well worth it!!!

Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have about my car PRIOR to bidding!!!

Thank you for taking the time to look at her and Happy Bidding!!!

Is your new-car warranty good at the race track?

Mon, Feb 27 2017

We've all heard the horror stories. Your buddy knows a girl that was dating a guy whose best friend's brother once broke his brand-new, recently purchased performance car while making runs at a drag strip or laps at a track day, and the manufacturer wouldn't cover the repair under warranty. True story? Urban legend? Complete crap? Yes, no, maybe. One thing's for sure: Automotive warranties have always come with caveats. In 1908, an ad in the Trenton Evening Times clearly stated: "All Ford Cars Guaranteed for One Year." Although it changed over time, by 1925 the Ford New Car Guarantee only covered 90 days on material and 30 days on labor, and it clearly stated that that there was "No guarantee whatever on Fan Belts, Glass, Bulbs, Wiring, Transmission, Bands, Hose Connections, Commutator Shells, Rollers, Spark Plugs or Gaskets." Whether or not Ol' Henry would pay to fix your Model T if you broke it shaving a tenth off your lap time at the local board track seems to be lost to history. We're guessing no. But what about today? Do new-car warranties in 2017 cover cars when they are driven on race tracks? We researched the warranties of 14 auto brands to find out, and the answer is yes, no, maybe, depending on the brand, in some cases the model, and whether or not your car is modified from stock. Acura has been out of the high-performance car game for a number of years, but jumps back into the party in 2017 with its hybrid-powered $173,000 NSX supercar. And Acura's warranty, as well as Honda's, clearly states that it does not cover "the use of the vehicle in competition or racing events." View 33 Photos So we asked Sage Marie, Senior Manager of Public Relations for Honda and Acura. "If the car is stock, the warranty covers it on a track just as it does on the street. No question," he told us. "However, if the car is modified, say with slick tires or other components that would put higher stresses on the vehicle's parts and systems, then we would have to investigate the circumstances further." Marie went on to say the same would be true for any Acura model or Honda vehicle, including the new 2017 Honda Civic Si. This became a common theme. Chevrolet actually started this practice with the fifth-generation Camaro on the high-performance ZL1 and Z/28 models.

China's rise, global restructuring wither GM's Korea division

Wed, Jan 7 2015

An article in the Daily Kanban suggests the sun is setting on GM Korea, and it could already be well into dusk. GM Korea came about when General Motors, along with co-investors SAIC and Suzuki, bought Daewoo Motors from parent company Daewoo Group in 2001; it had a previous tie-up with GM, a joint venture that ended in 1992, although Daewoo cars were based on GM cars until 1996. Over the decade following the purchase, it became such an important part of operations that it was renamed GM Korea in 2011, "to reflect its heightened status in [the] global operations of GM." Just two years later, the printed rumors were that the subsidiary responsible for a fifth of Chevrolet's global production could be shutting down. The division's sales were down almost 21 percent through November of last year, counting domestic South Korean sales, exports, and CKD – Complete Knock Down – products. That makes the labor strife, already an issue for four years, even more acute, reports say the subsidiary will lose $36 million a year if it can't get the job and wage cuts it wants, and government concessions can't make up for the losses. And it gets worse, so head over to Daily Kanban to read the rest of the story.

General Motors CEO Provides Few Details In Appearance Before Congress

Wed, Apr 2 2014

It was only two months ago that Mary Barra, freshly crowned as the new General Motors chief executive officer, visited Washington DC as an esteemed guest of First Lady Michelle Obama for the State of the Union address. On Tuesday, Barra returned to the Capitol under more strained circumstances. For more than two contentious hours, she took questions from members of a House of Representatives subcommittee investigating General Motors years-long delay in initiating a recall of millions of vehicles that contained a defect that has killed at least 13 people. Why did GM accept faulty ignition switches that were below the company's set specfications? Why did GM learn about the problem in 2001 yet take no action until 2014? Will GM compensate victims' families even though the company's bankruptcy may limit its liability? Those were a few of the questions members of the House Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee asked. Few concrete answers were forthcoming. For her part, Barra sidestepped most of the questions, saying she wouldn't have information needed to answer them until an internal review is completed. David Friedman, the administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, testified after Barra. The biggest news that emerged from the hearing was that General Motors has retained attorney Kenneth Feinberg to advise the company on its civil and legal responsibilities. He has made a career of resolving disputes and serving in a 'fixer' role, serving as the chief of the federal government's September 11th Victim Compensation Fund, as an administrator of compensation fund for victims of the BP Deepwater Horizon disaster and a similar fund for victims of the Boston Marathon bombing. Barra, who has been GM's CEO since January but been with the company since 1980, expects to meet with Feinberg on Friday, and have a concrete plan within the next 30-60 days. Yet Barra would not say for certain Tuesday that GM would compensate the victims at all. Despite repeated questions from Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.), Barra did not outline the company's intentions. "I assume GM is hiring (Feinberg) to help identify the size of claims and then compensate the victims? Is that right," DeGette asked. "Is GM willing to put together some kind of a compensation fund for these victims that Mr. Feinberg will then administer?" "We've hired him to help assess the situation," Barra replied. "So really, there's no money involved at this point," DeGette asked.
