In 2003, I bought myself this car as a retirement gift. It had been garaged in Arizona for about 4 years and was in pretty sore condition. My first step was to send it to Mexico for the beginning of a frame off reconditioning. I got some new wheels and tires and replaced the original air conditioning system. It really works we'll, even here in Phoenix. In 2011, I replaced the 327 engine (it should have been a 307) with a rebuilt 350. A small cam and electronic ignition along with a new 4-barrel carb, intake manifold and all new peripherals (water pump, battery, power steering unit, alternator, etc) to complete the upgrade. At the same time, I replaced the 2-speed ultra glide with a 3-speed. With it, I put on headers and a throaty exhaust just for the fun of it. A front disc conversion was included in the rebuilt of the front suspension. (The ding in the fender was the catalyst for this upgrade). A new sound system and speakers convinced me that the entire wiring system had to be replaced - which it was. Everything works and it is a lot of fun to drive. It really is not ready for Barrett Jackson but, I can't imagine that those cars are any fun to drive. We have to leave Phoenix and I just can't picture myself driving this in the snow and ice where we're headed. It was recently appraised at $22,500 (warts and all). There is probably only about 1500 miles on the car after all the last revisions were finished in 2011.

Chevy Bolt wins 2017 Green Car of the Year

We knew that a plug-in vehicle was going to win the 2017 Green Car of the Year award this year, given that all five finalists have a way to charge up. And when Ron Cogan, the editor and publisher of Green Car Journal, announced the winner – the 2017 Chevy Bolt EV Â– he said that the car itself represents one of those times in the auto industry when everything is about to change. Similar to the invention of the starter motor, things are about to get different. For now, though, the fact that the Bolt EV won an award sounds like the same old thing all over again. Just this week, it was named Motor Trends Car of the Year and to the Car And Driver Top 10 list. The other four finalists for Green Car of the Year included the Toyota Prius Prime, the Chrysler Pacifica, the Kia Optima (including hybrid and plug-in hybrid models) and the BMW 330e iPerformance. Last year, the winner was the 2016 Chevy Volt. Did Green Car Journal make the right selection this year? See the award ceremony below.

New Chevrolet Silverado to be revealed on Facebook on Thursday

There's not much to see here, but if you're one of those waiting for the reveal of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, above is the teaser image that Chevrolet posted on its Facebook page. We've seen the truck in form-fitting camo before, and even less can be made out here beyond those seriously punchy Silverado-esque fenders and the knowledge that the projector-beam headlamps teased previously do indeed work. We'll have to wait until Thursday for a full perusal of the "bold exterior design" and "careful attention given to every detail" we've been promised.
Gathering intel and rumors, magnesium and aluminum contribute to the Silverado's weight loss plan, the purported "High Country" top-tier trim will contribute to luxury pickup truck competition and profit margins and the next-generation small-block V8 will contribute to improved fuel economy. On the engine note, there have been rumors of available V6 engines, and when Facebook user John Jones asked "Where's your answer to that EcoBoost Chevy?", the Bowtie replied "stay tuned on the 13th. We think you'll be pleased...".
Along with the "Raise the Bar" tag, Chevrolet says of the Silverado, "You asked, we delivered." You can watch the reveal live on Chevrolet's Facebook page at 9:30 am EST, this Thursday, December 13. The GMC Sierra 1500 will also be there, and we'll see both in person at the Detroit Auto Show in January.
