2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx Ss. Only 59k Miles! Versatile Sport Wagon. Excellent! on 2040-cars

Chevrolet Malibu MAXX SS – SUV versatility in a mid-sized sport sedan! I
bought this car a little over 3 years ago as a backup for my wife and me, and
for my then-teenage daughter to drive (straight-A student, very conservative
and careful). It had around 35,000 miles then, and has only 59,330 now!
The car is essentially perfect. It’s had all of its oil changes, and recent
services include a new in-tank electric fuel pump/sending unit assembly (a
$1,000 repair that won’t have to be done again for years, if ever), tires, A/C
service, and battery (only a month old). Not to mention full professional
detail. This is a The
Malibu MAXX is a unique crossover-hatchback SUV alternative based on an
already-capable mid-sized sedan. It shares its platform with the nimble,
Swedish Saab 9-3. The Malibu MAXX offers a roomy interior with dual fixed rear
skylights to give the cabin an airy feel. This car has the optional power
sunroof offering even more of an open feel. There's plenty of head-, shoulder-
and legroom in all directions. In order to accommodate a variety of drivers,
this car is equipped with a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, and the
optional power-adjustable pedals. The driver’s seat is 6-way power, and the
rear seats are split 60/40, with each section offering 7 inches of fore/aft
travel as well as a recline feature. Yes, the REAR seats adjust and recline, as
well as fold down! 4 basketball players will actually fit in this car!
Passengers are protected by front-impact airbags along with driver and
passenger head curtain airbags. Of course there are 4-wheel antilock disc
brakes (60% pad life on the fronts; 40% on the rears), and standard traction
control. This MAXX also has the optional remote-start feature that allows owners
to get a head start on heating or cooling down the cabin. Of course, that means
it also has multi-function remote key fobs, and a factory alarm/security
system. The
hatch area offers 22.8 cubic feet of capacity, and you can fold down the rear
seats and the front-passenger seat to open up more room for bulky items. An
adjustable, reversible (carpeted one side; hard plastic on the other)
parcel shelf allows for two-tier loading in the cargo area, and it can also
function as a supported, pull-out picnic or work table. Can anyone say
“tailgate party!”? Various hooks and nets help keep grocery bags from spilling
their contents. Other
options on this car include an in-dash 6-disc CD changer, Sirius/XM® satellite
radio, separate rear audio controls, and OnStar® telematics. One of
the really significant items is the SS package. Not just a bunch of SS
badging, this rare option meant that the car was tuned by GM’s Performance
Division. It includes a robust 3.9 liter V6 with 240 horsepower and torque down
low; large chrome exhaust tips; fog lights in the front lower fascia;
firm-feeling traditional hydraulic power steering (instead of the vague,
overboosted electric power steering found in all lesser Malibus); specially
tuned struts and springs; 18-inch alloy wheels; aluminum alloy rear control
arms; leather-and-cloth sport seats with extra bolstering; and a manual shift
mode on the quick-shifting 4-speed automatic. It adds up to a really fun to
drive package! My
daughter took the Tire Rack/BMW Car Club of America Street Survival Teen
Driving School in this car (which I highly recommend for all new drivers).
While the Camrys, Tauruses, etc. wallowed through the emergency maneuvers, the
MAXX cornered flat and with precision. And this was before the new tires. Adding
to the fun of driving is the tire selection. No off-the-shelf discount
specials, this car wears nearly new BF Goodrich G-Force Sport Comp 2 ultra high
performance tires, in the optional, slightly oversize 235/50ZR18. These tires
were $175.99 each new, and share the same compound used in Michelin Pilot Super
Sports (original equipment on the Ferrari 599 GTO)! While
the Malibu MAXX won’t substitute for seven- and eight-passenger SUVs, there are
plenty of people who really don't need more than five-passenger capacity, but
could use a little extra flexibility to keep up with a growing family, along
with hauling cargo. If that describes you, then the Malibu MAXX is a crossover
wagon worth considering. My daughter is an amateur photographer, and used the adjustable
table as a portable workbench on photo shoots. Raise the hatch, extend and
secure the table! Of course, the table is removable if you need a bigger space
for bulky items. One of
these cars with slightly more miles, but winter use in My
daughter now lives in Good

Cars with the most reckless drivers are full of surprises
Wed, Oct 13 2021Insurify is a site for comparing auto insurance quotes. Because insurance shoppers need to submit information like the vehicles they're driving and the infractions they've compiled while driving those vehicles, Insurify has quite the database of correlations tying certain models to a habit of breaking certain laws. When the site's data analysts decided to compile a list of the top ten models for reckless driving citations in the decade from 2010 to 2019, the ranking contained a few wild entries. The Dodge Challenger making the countdown will surprise precisely zero people. But the Saturn L200? First, a definition: USLegal.com defines reckless driving as "driving with a willful or wanton disregard for safety. It is the operation of an automobile under such circumstances and in such a manner as to show a willful or reckless disregard of consequences." So this list is a caution about particular drivers more than the cars. For a baseline, according to Insurify data, for any random model, 15 out of 10,000 people who drive that model have picked up one citation for reckless driving. Back to that Challenger, then. No shocker for being here, but it's actually number 10, with 44 out of 10,000 Challenger drivers nabbed for a willful disregard of consequences on the road. That's better than the first surprise entry, the Saturn L200, a sedan only on sale for six years, with the least horsepower on the list, and out of production since 2005. The data set put drivers of GM's extraterrestrial sedan at 45 reckless pilots per 10,000 drivers. There are two pickups on the list, the only modern one being the Ram 1500 at eighth, with a rate of 46 in 10,000. Somehow, drivers of the third-best-selling pickup in the U.S. outrun the overwhelming numerical superiority of the best-selling vehicle in the States, the Ford F-150. The other pickup is the Chevrolet K1500 at number five, with a rate of 56 in 10,000. This is not only the oldest vehicle on the list, it went out of production in 2002, before any other vehicle on the list. Between the trucks, the Volkswagen CC slotted in at seven with 47 in 10,000 reckless driving chits, the Cadillac ATS slipped into sixth with 48 in 10,000. The top four is a bag of unexpected. The Nissan 370Z is the first hardcore sports car on the list at number four, with 61 in 10,000 Z drivers flaunting their Fairladys in the face of Johnny Law.

Weekly Recap: Tesla loses money, still dominates the news
Sat, Aug 8 2015Some people get an inordinate amount of attention. In politics, it's Donald Trump. In football, it's Jim Harbaugh. And in the auto world, it's Elon Musk and his always-fascinating electric car company, Tesla Motors. General Motors is spending $877 million to upgrade a factory. So what! US auto sales are up. Who cares? Tesla has a metal snake that will recharge your car! So was the week in Tesla – er, the industry. Snarkiness aside, Tesla did dominate the news cycle, led by the announcement the company lost $184 million in the second quarter. Tesla also said it expects to deliver between 50,000 and 55,000 vehicles this year, and is preparing for a full launch of the Model X crossover in September. Musk also made news during the earnings call by simply not answering a question about ride sharing, leading to speculation Tesla could be considering its own operation. While the financials were the arguably the most important company news, reports of a Model S cyber hacking were more compelling fodder for Tesla followers. Researchers were able to attack the sedan and bring it to a stop, though they required access to the car first. Tesla says it already has deployed a remedy for the situation. On a lighter note, Tesla published a video of its metal charger prototype that autonomously uncoils like a snake to power up the company's vehicles, provoking plenty of humorous comments and comparisons. Watch it and decide for yourself. While some of this might seem trivial, much of Tesla's recent attention has been warranted. It's the first startup US automaker in decades to launch from nothing and actually gain traction in the market. Sure, Musk is a lightning rod and Tesla always seems to be in the spotlight. But amid all of the publicity, it easy to lose sight of the new reality: Tesla is a force. OTHER NEWS & NOTES 2016 Chevy Volt lights up 106 MPGe The Chevy Volt's vitals are looking healthier for 2016. The second-generation plug-in hybrid racks up a gaudy 106 miles per gallon equivalent, which is an increase of eight MPGe from the 2015 model. The new Volt can travel 53 miles on electricity, a significant jump from the 2015 Volt's 38-mile range. The new car also has a 420-mile total range when factoring in the capability of the gasoline engine, which is 40 miles greater than the current car offers.
