If you have ever had the urge to buy a true classic, collectible car that you need not spend a fortune to buy it or keep it maintained then this is the car for you.  Absolutely the best driving muscle car I have ever driven.  I have owned approximately 1,000 cars that I would consider muscle cars.  This car is as original as it gets.  Numbers matching engine, transmission and rear end with a 3.42 posi.  Muncie M-21 with original shifter that was rebuilt in California prior to my ownership.  Engine has had a cam change and an aluminum intake and MSD ignition added.  The engine has a nice lope through the flowmasters.  I have the original intake, distributor and valve covers.  This just gives it a little more pep but retains its originality.  Alternator is original and A/C is still on R-12 and works great.  Still has the original shifter and also the original standard-shift radiator.  Car never goes over 210 in the heat with the A/C on.  Speedometer shows 58,676 miles but I cannot verify this.  All indicators are that this is correct.  All original interior is in excellent condition.  Dash pad has a small crack near the speaker.  I have a cap on the dash at this time.  I have the build sheet for this vehicle and it matches up rather nicely.  It shows windshield antenna which is rare.  It has the original HR-70-15 spare in the trunk.  Has an aftermarket AM FM in the glove box and the original 8 track still on the dash.  Key buzzer still functions as does the shift lock from the transmission to the steering column.  It must be in reverse to get the key out of it.  Drives absolutely straight with no shakes or pull.  A pleasure to own and drive.  All of the gauges work perfectly.  Currently has 17” American Racing Hopster wheels on it - which are not my taste but look great and run smoothly.  The tires have approximately 1,600 miles on them.  2 1/2 “ true dual exhaust with flowmasters and it sounds great.  Clutch does not chatter nor slip, it engages perfectly and pulls great.  I had it painted 6 years ago and it has held up great.  Paint looks deep and glossy.  I also had a new vinyl top put on at the same time with the original material of course.  Rea end is quiet and grabs perfectly.  Absolutely no issues – get in it and drive.  The original exhaust manifolds and smog are still in place so there are no headers to leak.  Has matching number carburetor on the aluminum intake.  Engine starts great and idles at 800 RPM and lopes great.  It has great muscle car sound.  I think I covered it all, but look at the pictures and if you have a question that I did not cover, give me a call.  806-236-5911C or 806-373-9736W.  The only reason for selling is the purchase of a house.  Please do not be a bogus bidder – man-up!  If you meet the reserve, then I expect you to complete the auction.  I do not need bids to help sell my car.  The car itself will sell on its own merit.  I will help on this end to deliver it to the shipper of your choice.  Title is clear and in my name.  Payment of cash or cashier’s check prior to pick up.  Vehicle will be released after all funds are cleared and in my hand.  No warranty – I think it expired a few years ago.  Check my feedback – good luck and God bless.  Free delivery to lower 48 states if you use Buy-It-Now.

5 classic trucks and their polarizing modern revivals

Sun, Mar 3 2024

EVs are helping eliminate Detroit's gas-guzzling problem. Some revivals of gas-powered classics are getting the EV treatment.  But not every revived model looks exactly like its original counterpart. We're in a new era of hulking Detroit metal, and you can thank EVs. Americans can't get enough of their big, beefy trucks and SUVs. But for many years, some of the biggest gas guzzlers fell out of fashion as gas prices rose and emissions regulations tightened. But in the past few years, some of the most iconic American truck nameplates have been brought back to life with electric motors, like the GMC Hummer. In other cases, as with the Ford Bronco, improvements in engine technology and more interest in rugged adventure vehicles made a gas-powered revival possible. Even some revivals that started as gas-powered, like the Chevy Blazer and the Jeep Wagoneer, are now getting electrified spinoffs. (Even if they don't always look quite as sleek as their original inspiration.) Here are side-by-sides of five classic American trucks and their modern counterparts. The Jeep Wagoneer 1975 Jeep Wagoneer and 2024 Electric Jeep Wagoneer SStellantis After a long wait, Jeep released its revival of the classic Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer in 2020. Starting later this year, an electric version of the luxury Jeep SUV will join the Wagoneer lineup. The Chevrolet Blazer A 1973 Chevrolet Blazer and a 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EVGetty Images, General Motors The Chevrolet Blazer was first rebooted in 2019 as a sporty family SUV. The modern Blazer shares zero resemblance to its boxy, off-roading older sibling, but it has still managed to become one of Chevy's more popular SUVs in recent years. The Blazer EV came later, and was one of the first models GM built on its new Ultium battery platform. The Hummer A Hummer H2 and the 2023 Hummer EV pickup truckGetty Images, General Motors Once the poster child for Detroit's big, bad gas guzzlers, the Hummer got new life as an electric pickup truck in 2021. The Ford Bronco A 1971 Ford Bronco and a 2022 Ford BroncoFord Motor Co. After a rouge group of engineers and designers inside Ford spent years trying to breathe life back into the Blue Oval's boxy off-roader, the Ford Bronco was finally resurrected in 2020 amid a rise in popularity for rugged adventure vehicles. The Ford Ranger 1985 Ford Ranger and a 2024 Ford RangerFord Motor Co.

Chevy Volt sales drop in June, Nissan Leaf inches upwards

Tue, Jul 1 2014

Different month, same story. That's the gist of the monthly US sales numbers from the Chevy Volt and the Nissan Leaf. These were the first two mass-market plug-in vehicles to go on sale in the US and we've been comparing their sales numbers for what seems like ages now. So far, the 2014 tale of the tape shows the all-electric once again trumping the plug-in hybrid. The last time the Volt outsold the Leaf was in October 2013. Chevrolet sold 1,777 Volts in June. That was good enough to be the Volt's best sales month of the year, but it's down 34 percent from the 2,698 units sold in June 2013. In fact, it's on par with the 1,760 Volts sold in June 2012. Given the steady sales, General Motors might need to push up the release of the next-gen Volt to gin up excitement, especially if it also offers some of the things that current Volt drivers say they want improved: more range, a lower price and a fifth seat. GM also said it sold 85 Spark EVs in June, an increase of 215 percent over June 2013 Nissan sold 2,347 Leafs last month. The good news continues for Nissan, which says it sold 2,347 Leafs last month. That's an increase of 5.5 percent over 2013 numbers and makes 2014 the best June ever for Leaf sales. Let's credit Texas. Toby Perry, Nissan's director of EV sales and marketing, said in a statement that, "Since the Texas state incentive went into effect in May, we've seen a big jump in Leaf sales in the Austin, Dallas and Houston markets. Our dealers are telling us that they saw more traffic in their stores, and they had their best Leaf sales performance in the last weekend in June." Even with that increase, Atlanta remains the top Leaf market. Nissan has sold 12,736 Leafs in the US so far this year; Chevy 8,615 Volts. Our detailed monthly sales write-up of green cars in the US, including plug-in vehicles, hybrids and diesel cars, is coming soon. For now, we invite you to discuss these numbers in the Comments. Here are a few of our automotive guilty pleasures

Tue, Jun 23 2020

It goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway. The world is full of cars, and just about as many of them are bad as are good. It's pretty easy to pick which fall into each category after giving them a thorough walkaround and, more important, driving them. But every once in a while, an automobile straddles the line somehow between good and bad — it may be hideously overpriced and therefore a marketplace failure, it may be stupid quick in a straight line but handles like a drunken noodle, or it may have an interior that looks like it was made of a mess of injection-molded Legos. Heck, maybe all three. Yet there's something special about some bad cars that actually makes them likable. The idea for this list came to me while I was browsing classified ads for cars within a few hundred miles of my house. I ran across a few oddballs and shared them with the rest of the team in our online chat room. It turns out several of us have a few automotive guilty pleasures that we're willing to admit to. We'll call a few of 'em out here. Feel free to share some of your own in the comments below. Dodge Neon SRT4 and Caliber SRT4: The Neon was a passably good and plucky little city car when it debuted for the 1995 model year. The Caliber, which replaced the aging Neon and sought to replace its friendly marketing campaign with something more sinister, was panned from the very outset for its cheap interior furnishings, but at least offered some decent utility with its hatchback shape. What the two little front-wheel-drive Dodge models have in common are their rip-roarin' SRT variants, each powered by turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines. Known for their propensity to light up their front tires under hard acceleration, the duo were legitimately quick and fun to drive with a fantastic turbo whoosh that called to mind the early days of turbo technology. — Consumer Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski  Chevrolet HHR SS: Chevy's HHR SS came out early in my automotive journalism career, and I have fond memories of the press launch (and having dinner with Bob Lutz) that included plenty of tire-smoking hard launches and demonstrations of the manual transmission's no-lift shift feature. The 260-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder was and still is a spunky little engine that makes the retro-inspired HHR a fun little hot rod that works quite well as a fun little daily driver.
