1969 Chevelle Malibu Coupe, Silver, 307, No Reserve, Great Driver And Project on 2040-cars
Tacoma, Washington, United States
Up for sale is a very good driver/restoration candidate that we have owned for 12 years. The vehicle has not been smoked in during the time we've owned it and did not smell of smoke when we bought it. It was my wife's daily driver until our first child, then became my daily driver for some time. The last few years we haven't driven it enough to justify keeping it. I have several other projects and not enough time for this one. I will go through as accurate a description of the car as possible and provide more pictures if you email me. I wouldn't hesitate to drive this car anywhere, but I would probably replace belts, fluids, tires and hoses for a long trip. On a personal note I still love driving this car. It is a pleasure to drive and I get more than a few thumbs ups from both kids and those who were around when these cars were built. Our desire is to see this car go to someone who will continue to love it and drive it. It's a great handling car that will make you smile every time you drive it.
This 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu began its life being the 923rd Chevelle to roll off the Oshawa, Ontario assembly line during the second week of January, 1969. It will celebrate it's 45th birthday this coming January. It was originally Cortez Silver with Medium Red interior as it still is today. This is not an SS car, but would make a great basis for a clone if that is your desire. The RPO codes are still under the rear seat (I left the tag there). The tag reads "Tag 100 Line Schedule 665 13637 6910 787 442 499 A39 A82 AIT A85 B37 T60 ZK3". It matches the cowl tag which reads "Made in Canada", second line reads "69 13637 OS442499 BDY", the third line reads "TR 787 6910 PNT", the fourth line reads "18 D99M38" and the remainder of the tag reads the normal body by fisher verbiage. Decoded that means it's a 69 Malibu Series 2-door coupe made in Oshawa with medium red vinyl and cortez silver paint. A39 is the RPO code for Custom Deluxe Seat Belts, Front and Rear (red instead of black). A82 is "Head Restraint, Bench Seat". AIT I have not found. A85 is "Deluxe Shoulder Harness" (the shoulder portions in the clips above the driver and passenger seats similar to our modern shoulder restraints). B37 was "Floor Mats" which are long gone! T60 was "Heavy Duty Battery" and ZK3 was "Deluxe Seat Belts & Front Seat Shoulder Harness". I believe the 307 was the stock motor and I believe it is still in the car even though it has a Turbo 400 transmission and a 12 bolt rear end. The frame appears sound without deformations or significant rust on any of it. This is a full peripheral framed car and doesn't appear to have ever been seriously wrecked. The front crossmember looks great as does the transmission crossmember. The body has great gaps at all the seams. There are chips and scratches, but the paint has held up very well. The paint was on it when we bought it from Premium Motors (a classic car dealer), here in Tacoma Washington, on November 14th of 2001 for $8075. They have a great reputation and offered whatever we paid towards anything they have...and they have some tempting cars. The left rear quarter had been patched and started bubbling about five years or so after we bought it. My intention was to replace the quarter, but as you can see, I never got around to it. The rust that I've found has been surface stuff for the most part. I developed a windshield leak after having a cracked windshield replaced (faulty installation). I had it removed and installed to fix the leak. I inspected the sheet metal that the windshield affixes to and found it to be in great shape. All the pins that hold the windshield trim are originals (often people use screws when they rot off creating a leak) and in great shape. After the leak was fixed I pulled the carpet up, cleaned up the surface rust, applied POR 15, installed Dynamat Extreme and new carpet. The drive train is very solid and has required very little in the way of maintenance. I haven't had to do anything outside normal maintenance to the engine, transmission or rear end. The 307 has a Rochester 2 Jet carb, sounds great, always starts and has incredible power. It gets decent mileage and makes no noise. It blows some blue smoke, but it usually isn't very noticeable. I believe the valve seals would fix it as the motor runs too well for it to be a ring problem. The transmission is a T400 and shifts great. The RPO codes indicate this was a T350 car, but I could be wrong. In any case, it shifts great and hasn't needed anything except routine maintenance. The rear end is an open 12 bolt corporate. I believe it has a 3:73 gear. The suspension was rebuilt in 2003 (about 16,000 miles ago). I replaced all four springs, shocks (air in back), all control arm bushings (front and rear), inner and outer tie rod ends, spindles, seals, rotors, calipers, bearings, upper and lower ball joints and everything else that wears. I had it aligned by a local shop that understands classics. The tires and wheels were on the car when we bought it. The wheels are similar to American Racing, but are not. They polish up nice. The tires are BF Goodrich Radial T/As, P255/60R15s in the rear and P235/60R15s in the front. All four hold air, but are starting to weather check. I have some parts that go with it and will update as I find more. I have the owner's manual, the service manual and the assembly manual that go with it. I have a set of felts (good ones) and a paint gasket set. I believe I have a trunk gasket and a cowl gasket that I may install if I find them. I will be driving the car all week to shake out anything else and will update any issues I find or correct. Please don't hesitate to send questions. This is a great car that just needs someone to give it some time. The car is for local pick-up although I will assist you in shipping if you desire (within reason). If you are flying in from somewhere I can pick you up at SeaTac Airport in YOUR new car. I have bought two classics on EBay over the past 10 years so I can empathize with the decision. I will be happy to answer questions concerning the process if I can. This is a used car and, as such, has no warranty, implied or expressed. Thanks for looking and good luck! |

Best car infotainment systems: From UConnect to MBUX, these are our favorites
Sun, Jan 7 2024Declaring one infotainment system the best over any other is an inherently subjective matter. You can look at quantitative testing for things like input response time and various screen load times, but ask a room full of people that have tried all car infotainment systems what their favorite is, and you’re likely to get a lot of different responses. For the most part, the various infotainment systems available all share a similar purpose. They aim to help the driver get where they're going with navigation, play their favorite tunes via all sorts of media playback options and allow folks to stay connected with others via phone connectivity. Of course, most go way beyond the basics these days and offer features like streaming services, in-car performance data and much more. Unique features are aplenty when you start diving through menus, but how they go about their most important tasks vary widely. Some of our editors prefer systems that are exclusively touch-based and chock full of boundary-pushing features. Others may prefer a back-to-basics non-touch system that is navigable via a scroll wheel. You can compare it to the phone operating system wars. Just like some prefer Android phones over iPhones, we all have our own opinions for what makes up the best infotainment interface. All that said, our combined experience tells us that a number of infotainment systems are at least better than the rest. WeÂ’ve narrowed it down to five total systems in their own subcategories that stand out to us. Read on below to see our picks, and feel free to make your own arguments in the comments. Best infotainment overall: UConnect 5, various Stellantis products Ram 1500 Uconnect Infotainment System Review If thereÂ’s one infotainment system that all of us agree is excellent, itÂ’s UConnect. It has numerous qualities that make it great, but above all else, UConnect is simple and straightforward to use. Ease of operation is one of the most (if not the single most) vital parts of any infotainment system interface. If youÂ’re expected to be able to tap away on a touchscreen while driving and still pay attention to the road, a complex infotainment system is going to remove your attention from the number one task at hand: driving. UConnect uses a simple interface that puts all of your key functions in a clearly-represented row on the bottom of the screen. Tap any of them, and it instantly pulls up that menu.
Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R named Road & Track Performance Car of the Year
Mon, Nov 9 2015With a 526-horsepower, 5.2-liter V8 that roars to 8,250 rpm, it's really hard to consider the 2016 Ford Shelby Mustang GT350R an underdog in any fight. However, the Shelby held the lowest as-tested price and was only middle of the pack in terms of power in Road & Track's 2016 Performance Car of the Year challenge. The 'Stang's numbers clearly didn't tell the whole story about the potent coupe because Ford's muscle car grabbed the title in this year's test. A model needs to be new or significantly updated to be eligible for the honor, and R&T found an impressive slate of eight candidates this year. The challengers included the Bentley Continental GT3-R, Cadillac ATS-V Coupe, Chevrolet Corvette Z06, Dodge Viper ACR, Mercedes-AMG GT S, and Porsche Cayman GT4. The Ferrari 488 GTB was the most expensive of the bunch with an as-tested price of $347,942, which is five times more than the Shelby. Once the group was together, R&T hustled them over curving roads and on the National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park. There was a lot to love about the Shelby, even in this impressive crew. "With a flat-plane crank and Sport Cup 2 tires, the GT350R is a Mustang turned up to 11," editor-in-chief Larry Webster said in the announcement of the results. The GT350R joins some great company. Past winners include the Porsche 911 GT3 last year and the Corvette in 2013. For some fantastic photography and the complete appraisal of these performance machines check out R&T's website for the full story. The article appears in the December/January issue, on newsstands November 17, and on RoadandTrack.com. "With a flat-plane crank and Sport Cup 2 tires, the GT350R is a Mustang turned up to 11," said Larry Webster, editor-in-chief of Road & Track. "Not only does the car have soul and harness so much firepower with such ease, but the real achievement here is that it's so approachable. It's a car you can't help but love." The Mustang Shelby GT350R was the winner by a runaway vote.
GM recalls 64k 2011-2013 Volts over carbon monoxide fears, stop sale on Trax and Encore
Thu, Mar 12 2015General Motors is recalling 50,249 Chevrolet Volts from the 2011-2013 model years in the US and an additional 13,937 exported examples because of fears over carbon monoxide buildup. According to a statement, if a Volt is accidentally left on while running on electric power, its internal combustion engine would eventually kick on to charge on the battery. If this happens in an enclosed space, then carbon monoxide can fill the area, leading to a potential exposure to the dangerous gas. According to GM, there have been two injuries reported due to this issue. To fix the problem, there's a software update to limit the time the vehicle can idle. According to Automotive News, GM is also issuing a stop sale on about 2,300 examples of the 2015 Chevrolet Trax and Buick Encore. In these compact crossovers, it's possible that the steering column assembly could touch the power steering circuit board and cause damage over time. This could potentially cause the system to stop working. Automotive News indicates that the automaker is still working with the supplier to get the necessary parts to repair this problem. General Motors is recalling 50,249 Chevrolet Volts in the U.S. from the 2011-2013 model years to implement a software update that will limit the amount of time a vehicle can be left idling in the "on" or "run" position. If a driver exits the vehicle and inadvertently leaves the vehicle "on" by failing to react to cues and warning chimes emitted by the vehicle, the vehicle's high-voltage battery will drain after a period of time and the gasoline engine will begin to run. If the gas engine runs for a long period of time within an enclosed space, such as a garage, carbon monoxide could build up. GM is aware of two injuries, both related to carbon monoxide build up. The total recall population including Canada and exports is 64,186. Related Video:
