Of Chevrolet collectors, the 1963 Impala is the considered among most popular for its distinctive body style. Its crisp lines with pointed front and rear fenders emphasize the long, low style of car design popular in the early 1960s. Certainly the most coveted Impala of all is the ’63 SS Convertible. The 1963 SS Impala presented here, VIN *31867B260780*, not only qualifies as a stylish, fun, drop-top Classic but is truly exceptional in more ways than one. A beloved Sunday driver, this much-loved automobile was owned by only one mature couple since new. As newlyweds, they purchased the car on October 5, 1963 at Ken Dixon Chevrolet-Buick in Waldorf, MD. The husband was a test pilot and just a few years later, he was transferred to Edwards Air Force Base so they made a permanent move to Southern California. Above photo is of the entrance sticker to the Base which still remains on the front bumper. For nearly a half century, the car was always garaged and cherished by the original owners. The owner made detailed records of all the maintenance on a steno-pad. This log, along with countless other books, receipts and work orders provide a rich history; intimately inform us - not only about the substantial and meticulous maintenance work performed, but also how reliable this fine automobile has been and will continue to be for many years to come. All documents will go with the car to the new owner. Now in her late seventies and after the passing of her husband, the remaining owner finally decided to part with her long-time companion. In 2011, a prominent businessman in Orange County was fortunate to become the new, temporary custodian. Here is a YouTube Video documenting his purchase experience in December, 2011: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bCNwEJsqlI As you can see by the video, the car was in AMAZING, unrestored condition. Over the next 2 years, the new owner spared no expense obtaining the best restoration professionals on the planet to bring this beauty back to its original glory. From top to bottom; anything that was even slightly worn was restored or replaced - with careful attention kept to ensure that its stunning originality was preserved. The original body and factory finish were left completely un-touched... In less than one week, this exceptional automobile will find a new home as it will be sold for the first time, here on eBay with NO RESERVE PRICE. Hence, a unique opportunity arises to obtain an original and coveted “SS Convertible”; one that was always pampered by mature owners and was recently perfected beyond belief. Let's check out this dream find now, inside and out! This Chevy’s exterior is in wonderful state of preservation and features almost all of its factory-applied, Ermine White paint. Understandably, being senior citizens, the original owners had their share of parking lot mishaps; there are various chips and scrapes, some of them have been touched up, some haven't. Seals, emblems and trim are 100% original and still in great condition Overall, the paint still displays a mellow shine. Best of all: there's no rust-through or accident damage to be found anywhere. The new owner splurged and had a local expert install a brand new, factory correct, Aqua convertible top. At 10 hours of labor (plus the new top and top pads), this was quite expensive, but well worth the effort! Doors, hood, and trunk open and close as they should; all panels align perfectly. At the end of the day, nothing beats an original car! Years ago, some areas were brush-touched, (see above photo) and the paint has flaked-off in a spot behind the rear bumper. Bumpers are free of damage and feature the thick, original Detroit chrome, and brightwork is intact and shiny. Most appropriately for California, the Chevy proudly displays black-and-yellow, 1963 California license plates, highly prized among aficionados, as they are still irreplaceable. Only the SS models feature the aluminum rear taillight panel with the engine-turned surface surrounded by a chrome border. Overall, a very impressive
"oldie!" Note the factory correct, 15-inch wheels and hub caps. Whitewalls are new MASTERCRAFT P215/75-R14 radials on all 4 corners. Sliding a switch automatically lowers the top all the way, to be covered with the original matching top boot. What a fine looking Chevy this is!
Let’s inspect the interior now. Inside, the good vibes continue. The Impala 2-Door Convertible’s aqua interior offers plenty of room for 5 adult passengers and their luggage. The seats were completely reupholstered and loop carpeting was replaced to original factory specs. With finely preserved original door panels, the interior is absolutely stunning. Windshield, chrome trim and sun visors are all perfect. With the exception of one hairline crack, the dash is in pristine condition. Sparkling chrome tissue box is a very cool feature. Trunk release is in the glove box. New floor mats and all new loop carpet throughout are pristine. Original door panels perfectly match the new seat upholstery. Futuristic dash design and large steering wheel with big chrome horn push, hallmarks of American cars of the era. Note the pleating in the vinyl and lots of chrome. This is nothing you will find in the pre-formed bubble cars today. Except for the right rear, all windows roll up and down perfectly. The "coved" instrument panel features a factory tachometer built into the dashboard, just above the steering wheel; it was rarely ordered, but gave the Super Sport models an extra feel of sportiness. Actual miles are 133,699 The original Delco AM radio, all lights, gauges, switches work perfectly. Even the heater works and A/C blows ice cold. Even below the vulnerable doors, there zero corrosion. Let's have a closer look at two very important areas: trunk and undercarriage. Inside of trunklid still has the original trunk mat which has survived 50 years. As you'd expect, the luggage compartment is cavernous. It looks big enough for a microcar to park in. Note the paint inside the deck lid is as glossy as exterior's. A box of extra parts and the top boot are located here. Extra matts are included. Trunk lining, spare wheel, and jacking equipment are all original. Other than some mild stains along some of the matt seams, this all original trunk is clean! A quick look underneath confirms: many new joints, bushings and suspension components. You're looking at perhaps the most important pictures of this vintage automobile. Fifty year-old, virginal undercarriage tells more than a thousand words about the car's immaculate California provenance. Sure, the bare metal shows a hint of surface rust here and there, but it's bone dry and 100% free of rot or rust-through; there has never been any undercoating applied, never been any need to cover up or repair anything. Priceless! Bone dry below and there are no dents in the frame rails! All new exhaust system is whisper quiet. With a little bit of elbow grease, you could polish its underside to a mellow shine and hit the show circuit with it. Even for a pampered California Car, this is an incredible treat! Let’s have a peak under the hood. Engine and Mechanical: Spotlessly clean engine bay offers plenty of room for this 327 cubic inch, Turbo-Fire engine. It produces an honest 300 horsepower, ensuring very lively performance, indeed. This is a numbers matching drivetrain and the original engine bay is factory correct; right down to the decals and markings. Freon in the restored A/C system is fully charged. All bottles & tanks replaced. Factory correct, or course. New Battery Running A/C compressor. All new A/C lines Engine and ancillaries perfected from top to bottom. No oil leaks either! New alternator Correct decals everywhere 327 motor runs smoothly with no unusual noises, drips or smoke Everything was detailed and powder coated to exact specs. Here you can see the many thousands the owner invested into perfecting this engine bay both mechanically and cosmetically. Drivability: The Chevy starts immediately, idles smoothly, and accelerates with authority. Its Powerglide, automatic transmission, power steering, new tires and brakes all contribute to make driving this American Classic a fun experience.
The Chevy is a fantastic driver and does everything with grace and style. Just last week, the owner drove the car (one last time) from his home in Southern CA up the coast to his private museum at the Monterey Peninsula. There it will be stored and covered; awaiting delivery to the lucky new owner. Of course, if you live in another county, state, country or continent, we are happy to work with your shipper. Simply by clicking the "Shipping" tab here on the listing and entering your zip code, you can easily obtain competitive quotes from insured shippers. In its present pristine state, you could jump in and drive it across the country, all the way to New York, Maine, or even Canada! Use it as a bone-stock, reliable, daily driver, build the street machine of your dreams, or add the car to your museum collection, this Chevy Impala SS Convertible is a once-in-a-lifetime find. You'd be hard pressed to find a car that delivers more smiles per mile than this Chevy. It's smooth, quiet, without any ill manners, qualifies for cheap collector car insurance and, unlike the plastic cars of today, it will not depreciate in value, ever. If you have been lusting after an American convertible from the 1960s, but want to be different from the belly-button crowd, here is a golden opportunity to acquire a bona fide, third generation Impala SS Convertible. Hardly any rust free examples are left; here's one of the handful of known survivors. As such, it will always be a desirable car. Presently, we have a clear, California Title. CA license and registration fees have been paid through November, 2014 and NO Smog Certificate is required to complete Title transfer here in CA; only local sales tax and a $15 DMV transfer fee. Out of state buyers will be overnighted the signed Title and Bill of Sale after full payment clears. All questions must be answered and all inspections must be completed PRIOR TO BIDDING. Proof of insurance will be required for a test drive.
Because this is a 50 year-old car, it is being sold in AS-IS CONDITION and comes with absolutely NO WARRANTIES EITHER EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED. We are proud to have 100% POSITIVE FEEDBACK. Bid with
confidence, knowing everything represented in this auction is accurate. BIDDERS WITH ZERO OR NEGETIVE FEEDBACK MUST EMAIL US FOR APPROVAL PRIOR TO BIDDING OR THEIR BID WILL BE CANCELED. This is certainly one of the finest Chevys in the nation. Appreciating daily, the car is offered here with No Reserve. What a great opportunity to purchase a prime, surviving example of the immortal ’63 Impala SS Convertible which is sure to remain an outstanding investment for the winning bidder and a joy to drive for many years to come. GM Design shows what could have been and what might be
Thu, May 27 2021We periodically like to check in with GM Design's Instagram account to see what they're cooking up. Even better is when we catch a glimpse of an alternate history of what legendary designers from The General's past were thinking, though those ideas may not have made it into production. This week, for example, the account posted some illustrations from George Camp, whose career at GM spanned nearly four decades, from 1963 to 2001. One of the renderings is of what appears to be a 1971-72 Pontiac GTO Judge, but with two headlights instead of the production unit's quad beams. The rear departs from the canonical version most dramatically, with a massive integrated wing. Other bits that didn't make the production cut include large side vents, a gill-like side marker and rectangular intakes below the headlights that wouldn't be out of place on a modern design today. Amazingly, from what we can make out of the date, it appears that the drawing was done sometime in 1965, which makes it quite prescient.      View this post on Instagram            A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) There's also a very aerodynamic interpretation of a Corvette ZR-1. To our eyes it splits the difference between the 1986 Corvette Indy concept and a fourth-generation F-body Pontiac Firebird, so perhaps parts of Camp's work on this sketch did make it into physical form. There's also a radical sports car concept from May 1970 that resembles the Mazda RX-500 concept from the same year, a Syd Mead-looking Cadillac coupe, and an Oldsmobile with a cool take on the company's trademark waterfall grille and elements of the Colonnade Cutlass at the rear. Other recent posts include a FJ Cruiser-like off-road EV, a sleek coupe with the Chevy corporate grille, and a rendering of a Silverado-esque pickup that looks far better than the current production version.      View this post on Instagram            A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) It's pretty easy to lose hours in the account, but it's always fascinating to see GM's visions of what could have been and what might be. GM, UAW poaching Nissan workers in Tennessee
Tue, Sep 8 2015General Motors and the United Auto Workers are going on a recruitment drive at the Spring Hill factory in Tennessee, and they're hoping to poach some skilled workers from Nissan's nearby plant in Smyrna, TN. The General and the union even bought a billboard advertising for industrial electricians near the Japanese automaker's facility, according to the Daily News Journal. The reason for the billboard was simple. "GM was short of electricians," said Tim Stannard, the president of the UAW local at Spring Hill, to the Daily News Journal. The factory currently builds the Chevrolet Equinox but has a contract to assemble the next generation of Ecotec engines and the Cadillac XT5, which replaces the SRX. Thanks to the $185-million deal, employment there is expected to double by May 2016, according to Stannard, with roughly 1,800 additional union jobs. Beyond just several billboards, GM has job postings online for the Spring Hill plant looking for workers with specific skills. There has already been some interest in the positions among Nissan employees, Stannard indicated. According to a recent study by the Center for Automotive Research, the average GM worker currently makes $58 an hour, including benefits. Comparatively, Nissan pays an average of $42 an hour with benefits. The General's number could change in the coming weeks because its contract with the UAW is about to expire, and higher wages are among the major negotiating points.
Forza Motorsport 6's new drivable Hot Wheels cars are the best
Tue, May 3 2016Each month, Turn 10 Studios releases a new car pack for the latest installment of its Forza Motorsport video game. Sometimes that means less-than-exciting stuff coming to our Xbox Ones – BMW X6M, bleh – but this time our inner seven-year-old is beyond ecstatic. Two of the seven cars are based on actual Hot Wheels models. And. They're. Awesome. First we have the 2011 Hot Wheels Bone Shaker. Yes, there are flames on the side. And yes, there's a giant skull where the grille should be. This one came from the imagination of "Mr. Hot Wheels" Larry Wood, whose design was so popular it inspired an actual real-world creation. Like all good things in this world, it's powered by a small-block Chevy V8. Oh, and it has no roof. This will be a popular one among gamers. The other digitized Hot Wheels creation is a 2005 Ford Mustang. A modest vehicle, sure, but the toy designers have festooned this pony car with a wild paint scheme and the body mods to emphasize it. Originally developed to celebrate the 'Stang's 50th birthday, this Hot Wheels car trades Americana for wild Japanese style. There's just one functioning life-size version of this car in existence as well, but if you look hard, you might be able to find one of the 1:64 scale models that inspired it. Other highlights from this month's car pack include the latest Ford Focus RS – finally time to replace that NASCAR-V8-powered, all-wheel-drive 2009 Focus RS – the 2015 McLaren P1 GTR, the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS, the aforementioned X6M, and Alain Prost's 1990 Ferrari 641 F1 car. The Hot Wheels Car Pack is available for download today.
