Up for auction is a really nice 1966 Chevrolet Impala Sport Coupe.  It has Impala SS emblems on it but it is not an SS.  She was originally built in Atlanta and sold new in South Carolina.  I have the original owners manual and protect-o-plate to go along.  There are many upgrades to this Impala beginning with the 454 Big Block engine.  This Big Block is the low horsepower engine with an aluminum intake and a new Holley Carb.  She has a new electronic ignition.  There is also dual exhaust with nice sounding mufflers and tailpipes that come out at the correct factory location.  There is a brand new Turbo 350 Transmission and torque converter and I have the receipt for that.  There is a picture to show the proper transmission shift linkage on the column just as the factory had for this car.  The engine and transmission work great and this car has lots of power.  There are no fluid leaks of any kind.  The brakes have been upgraded to drilled and slotted disc brakes on the front and drum brakes on the rear.  A power brake booster was part of this conversion kit.  She has 15 inch by 8 inch aftermarket ralley wheels to accommodate the disc brakes.

The body of this Impala is very solid and has been repainted sometime before I bought the car.  I would call it a great 10 footer.  All exterior chrome moldings have been removed from the side of the Impala giving her a unique look.  The car was not originally bright red but this color really sets this Impala apart from other Impalas.  She gets lot's of looks at the local cruise in.  The trunk floor is very solid with only a spot of rust on the right side.  A picture shows this.  The floors are also very solid with only one spot on the passenger floor about the size of your fist.  Again I've attempted to show with a picture.  I have many pictures and can always provide more.

The interior is really great!  It is all black.  No marks or issues with the seats, door panels or headliner.  The dash is pretty much original and has an AM-FM Radio.  The mileage is 97,105 and believed to be original but I have no evidence to support that.  The car runs and drives well and the mileage may go up between now and the end of this auction as I do drive this Impala.  The car does require a few things, one she could use some new tires, two she needs a front end alignment since the installation of the new braking system and three she needs a new heater core which I will include with the sale.  Now I don't have to sell this car.  I have too many and this one is forced to sit outside.  As everyone knows that is not the best thing for a classic car so I will see if anyone wants to continue what was started on this car.  She does need a few things and I have her priced accordingly but I will not give her away.  I have a clear North Carolina title in my name.  I will help you or your agent load her up but this Impala will not leave my property before being paid in full.  Please no scams with any kind of check.  I will not accept them.  Cash or bank transfers.  If you have less than a +5 feedback please email me before bidding or I will reject your bid.  No buy it now price and I will not end the auction early.  Yes there is a reserve but I will keep that to myself.  This Impala is also for sale locally and could be sold at anytime but once the reserve is met I will allow the auction to run it's course and sell to the highest bidder.  This is an opportunity to get started in the collector hobby with a running driving car that shows great potential.  This Impala is sold as-is with no warranties expressed or implied with no returns.

General Motors and EVs: No stranger to firsts, but where's the leadership?

Tue, Apr 7 2015

2015 is already shaping up to be the year of "affordable, 200-mile EV" concepts. Nissan and Tesla have each been talking about them for some time, the latter promising to unveil its Model 3 at the North American International Auto Show in January before balking when the time came. Instead, Chevrolet beat them all by unveiling the Bolt concept at the same event, followed shortly thereafter with suggestions of a 2016 launch – potentially offering the first nationwide EV with anything close to that range. It was the ballsiest EV-related move General Motors has made in a quarter century. But will it remain so? Exactly 25 years before the Bolt rolled up onto the turntable, then-Chairman Roger Smith unveiled GM's last ground-up EV concept, the even-more-unfortunately-named Impact, at the Los Angeles Auto Show in January 1990. A few months later, he surprised most of his colleagues by announcing its intended production in honor of Earth Day. It was the first modern foray into electric vehicles for the US by any automaker, one that was rewarded by the State of California with what is now known as the Zero Emissions Vehicle mandate. The program not only forced other automakers into competing with Roger's pet project, but inspired all of them to fight it like small children against bedtime. Some years later, the drivers themselves weighed in, with a biting documentary about that obstinance and the leadership it cost both GM and the country. Within months, GM was first back into the fray of plug-in vehicles. Many criticized the company for starting with a PHEV rather than jump straight back into EVs. The choice wasn't totally out of the blue – even EV1 was meant to be followed by a PHEV. And especially on the heels of Who Killed the Electric Car?, some skittishness was understandable: even a successful EV would invite a "we told you so" public reaction, underscoring their mistake in ending the EV1 program. If a new EV didn't do well, they'd be convicted in the public eye as serial killers. All while seeking a federal bailout. For all the flak, the resulting Chevy Volt was and is a better car than GM has ever gotten credit for. But the company seemed to grow weary of having to overcome its varied past, and while the current owners remain happy, much of the stakeholder and community engagement that so effectively built early goodwill and sales growth faded not long after launch. Marketing has been spotty in both consistency and effectiveness.

Auto sales in March and first quarter down nearly across the board

Wed, Apr 3 2019

Nearly every major automaker reported weak U.S. sales for March and the first quarter of 2019, citing a rough start to the year, but said a robust economy and strong labor market should encourage consumers to buy more vehicles as 2019 rolls on. GM, which no longer releases monthly sales figures, saw first-quarter sales fall 7 percent, with declines across all brands. Sales of Silverado pickup trucks fell nearly 16 percent and the high-margin Chevy Suburban large SUV dropped 25 percent. Ford also no longer releases monthly sales numbers, but is due to release its first-quarter sales figures on Thursday. According to industry data, Ford's sales fell 2 percent in the quarter and 5 percent in March. Ford representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment. FCA reported a 7 percent fall in U.S. sales in March and a 3 percent drop for the first quarter. All of FCA's brands dropped in March, except for Ram, which saw a 15 percent increase in pickup truck sales. "The industry had a tough first quarter, but with spring finally starting to show its face and continued strong economic indicators ... we are confident that new vehicle sales demand will strengthen going forward," FCA's U.S. head of sales, Reid Bigland, said in a statement. Toyota reported a 3.5 percent fall in U.S. sales in March and 5 percent for the first quarter, hurt by declining demand for its Corolla sedans and Camry vehicles. "While some of our competitors are abandoning sedans, we remain optimistic about the future of the segment," Toyota said in a statement. Nissan posted a 5.3 percent drop in sales in March, and its first-quarter sales were down 11.6 percent. Honda and Hyundai bucked the trend. Honda's U.S. sales rose 4.3 percent in March and 2 percent in the quarter, while Hyundai's were up 1.7 percent and 2.1 percent, respectively. Passenger-car sales suffered throughout the January-March quarter compared with the same period in 2018 as Americans continued to abandon them in favor of larger, more comfortable pickup trucks and SUVs, which are far more profitable for automakers. The battle for market share in the particularly lucrative large-pickup truck market intensified in the quarter, as Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' Ram brand outsold the U.S.' No. 1 automaker General Motors' Chevrolet-brand trucks. The two automakers have both launched redesigned pickup trucks.

How a Texas Hyundai dealer became the Chevy SSR king

Tue, Apr 21 2015

The SSR isn't one of the most appreciated vehicles in Chevy's long history. With a style amalgamating the look of a vintage hotrod, convertible and a pickup, it's really serving a niche market right from the start. However, a Hyundai dealer in Texas has turned selling the cult models into a booming business and has become the de facto king of the quirky truck. According to Automotive News, Paul Peebles runs North Freeway Hyundai in Spring, TX, but he's better known in the Chevy SSR community the premiere seller of the weird model through his used car network. The odd venture started in 2010 when Peebles wanted to boost his pre-owned business and bought several sporty vehicles. Among them were five SSRs, and he threw a cookout for owners to get the word out. Things just ballooned from there. Since then, Peebles' used car dealer has had a hand in 447 SSR transactions, and some of those are the same truck coming back to sell again. With just over 24,000 of them out there, that works about to two percent of the model's production moving through just one business. The dealership also sponsors an SSR owners' forum online. Being a major broker for a niche model also means that Peebles often gets rare examples of the SSR, including some of the Indianapolis 500 pace car versions, according to Automotive News. We even saw a bizarre one last year when the business put this shark-inspired truck on eBay Motors. The whole thing also works out well for Peebles' Hyundai business. Specializing in SSRs brings other performance models in as trade-ins, and they can draw folks to the lot to check out the collection. Then, maybe visitors can take a look at a Sonata, too.
