GM recalls trucks and SUVs for brake pedal problem

The Basics: General Motors will recall over 473,000 North American examples of the 2015-2016 Chevrolet Silverado HD, GMC Sierra HD, and police pursuit versions of the Chevy Tahoe. These include 426,573 vehicles in the US and 46,837 in Canada, according to Reuters. The Problem: The brake pivot nut can loosen over time, which can render the pedal inoperative. This would be a danger to drivers trying to stop the vehicles. In some cases, the "Service Engine Soon" light might come on. Injuries/Deaths: None reported. The Fix: Dealers will inspect the pivot bolt, and if necessary they will apply adhesive to it and reinstall the part with increased torque. Correction: Dealers will inspect the pivot bolt installation to determine whether the vehicle has already received the production remedy. If not, the dealer will add adhesive to the nut, and reinstall the nut at an increased torque. Corvette Stolen In Detroit Returned To Owner After 33 Years

A Detroit man had his stolen Corvette returned 33 years after it disappeared while parked on one of Detroit's main drags, according to ABC 7. The last time George Talley saw his 1979 Corvette was on a July day in 1981, when it disappeared from its parking spot on Jefferson Avenue in Detroit. He had given up hope of ever seeing his car again, until a phone call from AAA brought his sporty ride home. Authorities had come across a Corvette with a questionable VIN in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. When they ran the number Talley's stolen car report came up. The car is still in pretty good shape and only has 47,000 miles on the odometer. Talley wasn't sure how he could get the car back home, but General Motors stepped in and agreed to cover the cost of bringing the 'Vette home. Talley has always had a passion for Detroit-made muscle cars. "I've always liked Corvettes. It was attractive. The ladies like 'em," Talley told ABC 7.

Reuss says GM diesel plans are still on pace

General Motors is not going to let Volkswagen's diesel emissions scandal ruin its plans for a new line of efficient, torquey oil-burners, the company's Executive Vice President Mark Reuss said at a recent press event. "No way," Reuss responded when asked about cancelling the upcoming diesel-powered Chevrolet Cruze and other vehicles. "The Cruze Diesel is too good not to do it." Slated for 2017, the compact is just the latest member of a diesel offensive that initially kicked off with the first Cruze Diesel and most recently saw the introduction of the oil-burning Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon. Reuss also reassured those in attendance that there was "no delay" in development of Cadillac's diesel lineup. Cadillac is working on a line of four- and six-cylinder turbodiesels for Europe. They'd make their way into the US market, too, eventually. "It's a question of timing," Reuss said, according to Car and Driver. Volkswagen's diesel emissions scandal has caused automakers across the globe to at least reanalyze their diesel strategy. Jaguar Land Rover, which is preparing several diesel-powered models for the US market, went on record late last month to reaffirm its commitment to diesel.
