There are only a select few cars that have been cool from the moment they were built, and the 1961 Impala Bubble Top is one of them. Texas Classic Cars of Dallas is very proud to present one of a kind Impala SS Bubble Top. It's a restored ride packing a 409ci  block under its hood and making it a lot more than just a good looking body design.

 photo DSC00009.jpg

The current owner of this awesome Impala purchased it and found that it needed a little refreshing. He took it to Carr's Corvettes and Customs, and had the car completely gone over. We have a notebook with detailed photos and invoices of every item.

 photo DSC00005.jpg

There is for sure not many of these fine cars around. Maybe you have seen one with the same exterior, but it's what's under the hood that counts. Making this Impala stand out from the others is the Dual Quad Core 409 V engine producing 425 HP.

 photo DSC00015.jpg

The initial restoration had been done before it's purchase . It was items that were  safety related and things like a steering box rebuild and new wiring harness that were done by Carr's.

 photo DSC00018.jpg

The red paint has a depth and clarity that is  sometimes lacking on red cars, it shows off the long spears and with the contrasting chrome that make this car look about a mile long. Bumpers are beyond beautiful, re-chromed and  all six tail lights are in magnificent conditions.

The Mickey Thompson tires are the perfect combination on a great looking car, the sizes are F70/15 front and G60/15 rear. For the purist, the origianl hubcaps and fender skirts are included with the car.

This is a really incredible 61. This car is ready to enjoy. Carr's did everything that needed to be done to make this car ready to just turn the key and go. There are receipts totaling just over $30,000.to many to list, so call with any questions.

On the interior, the instrument cluster was removed to install the new gauges, headlight switch and turn signals. All new wiring  harness was  installed.

Bright red is the smart choice in this car, and a fully restored interior in this one looks beyond amazing. The two tone white and red seat covers look just like its originals.

Matching its seats, the two toned steering wheel is a great accent.  The original speedometer is still in place. Also a Hurst ball shifter is in place for shifting through the 4-speed trasmission.

Every nut, bolt or install kit was used when bringing this beauty back to original. There is simply too much to list on what has already been completed thus far.

 photo DSC00054.jpg

 photo DSC00052.jpg

All the gauges are working properly, the radio was deleted as in most big block cars.

The engine is bolted to a  T-10 4-speed transmission and connects out back to a 3.23:1 posi-trac rear end. This car is truly a thing of beauty and performance.

For starters on what has already been replaced, there is a whole binder full of invoices that track every step along the way so far. The work has been performed by Carr's Corvettes & customs. The transmission has been disassembled and checked over for anything that needed repair and put back together. There is R&R valve cover with premium 409 gaskets. R&R distributor and plugs were also installed. Even a Zoom 10.4" HP street clutch was installed.

The block is stamped on the front  with T0327  QD. We don't believe it to be a matching #s car, but it is a true 409

We could write paragraphs on this Bubble Top, but the pictures tell it all. Give us a call to talk further.

The undercarriege is clean, showing no rust in the floors and a straight frame.

Weekly Recap: Racing legend Jim Hall explains Chevy's futuristic Chaparral concept

Sat, Nov 22 2014

"I said our cars are built to be winners." – Jim Hall Racing legend Jim Hall never thought he'd be a video game consultant, but when Chevrolet asked for his advice to create a futuristic Chaparral for the Vision Gran Turismo series, he was eager to help. He reviewed early sketches and suggested some changes that made it onto the concept, including the addition of a camera that's mounted onto a mast over the cabin to aid the driver. The Chevy Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo concept was revealed this week at the Los Angeles Auto Show and will be part of a downloadable update for PlayStation 3's Gran Turismo 6 in December. Theoretically, at least, it uses a laser-beam propulsion system and an air-powered generator to produce 900 horsepower in the video game. It's capable of sprinting to 60 miles per hour in 1.5 seconds en route to a top speed of 240 mph. Those gaudy performance specs – even in the virtual world – came at Hall's urging. "I said our cars are built to be winners," Hall told Autoblog on the floor of the Los Angeles show. The 79-year-old drove Lotus racecars in Formula One before launching the successful Chaparral Cars in the 1960s. Like his innovative Can-Am racers, the Vision Gran Turismo project has an eye toward the future. It also introduces the iconic Chaparral name to a new generation of fans, and hopefully, Hall says, gets them excited about engineering and design. "It emulates what we did in the '60s," he said. And what they did back then still resonates. Chaparral Racing and Chevy partnered more than 45 years ago for development work on the composite monocoque chassis, lightweight alloy powertrains, automatic gearboxes and active aerodynamics. "He [Hall] walked right back into this and was able to apply thinkings and learnings," said Clay Dean, General Motors executive director of advanced design. The Chevy Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo concept was created at GM's North Hollywood advanced design studio, and it will be on display at the show through November. Other News and Views Sebastian Vettel joins Ferrari team in 2015 Ferrari confirmed that four-time Formula One World Champion Sebastian Vettel will join the Scuderia for the 2015 season, jettisoning Ferrari's current ace, two-time champ Fernando Alonso. Vettel has been F1's most successful driver since Michael Schumacher, though he's struggled to match his previous accomplishments in 2014.

GM cutting Chevy Sonic, Buick Verano production [UPDATE]

Sun, Jan 25 2015

UPDATE: A previous version of this story indicated that Orion Assembly would be idled for seven weeks, from February 16 through April 6. This was incorrect. The factory will instead only be idled for the weeks of February 16 and April 6. The story has been edited to reflect this. General Motors has announced that the factory responsible for the Buick Verano and Chevrolet Sonic will be idled for the weeks of February 16 and April 6, with blame being placed on excess supply. The Orion Assembly plant, about 45 minutes north of GM's Renaissance Center headquarters, employs about 1,800 people, but they'll be given a pair of furloughs as inventories of the sub-compact Sonic and premium compact Verano reach 127 days and 84 days, respectively. That works out to 26,600 Chevys and 9,800 Buicks waiting for buyers. According to Automotive News, the compact Chevy sales bested the industry average in 2014, jumping up nine percent versus the the overall segment's eight-percent gain, while the Buick sedan's sales were down four percent. When asked about the shutdown, a GM spokesman told AN that it will "build to market demand," while also pointing out that the company did not comment on production plans. GM Recalls 218,000 Chevy Aveo Models Over Fire-Prone Lighting

Wed, May 21 2014

The recall train keeps on rolling for General Motors. Hot on the heels of its recent 2.4 million-vehicle recall of various models, it's now calling in 218,000 Chevrolet Aveo units from the 2004-2008 model years because they could catch fire. The problem concerns the daytime running light module in the instrument panel. It could overheat, melt and cause a fire. According to GM spokesperson Alan Adler, "We are aware of some fires," and the company "is still investigating." Adler wouldn't comment about how many fires were reported or when the automaker was first aware of this issue because of the ongoing analysis. However, he said the issue has not caused any injuries or fatalities. GM also doesn't have a fix for the problem with the DRL module yet. The company says in its recall statement to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the remedy "is still under development." Adler wasn't sure when it would be ready, but he said Aveo owners would receive notification in the mail "relatively soon." They will receive a second letter later to schedule the repair. In a separate letter about the Aveo's problem to NHTSA (viewable here as a PDF), GM said its Executive Field Action Decision Committee decided to conduct the recall on May 16. Scroll down for the recall report. RECALL Subject : Daytime Running Light Module Overheating Report Receipt Date: MAY 19, 2014 NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V261000 Component(s): Potential Number of Units Affected: 218,000 Manufacturer: General Motors LLC SUMMARY: General Motors is recalling certain model year 2004-2008 Chevrolet Aveo vehicles equipped with daytime running lights (DRL). In the affected vehicles, there may be heat generated within the DRL module located in the center console in the instrument panel, which could melt the DRL module. CONSEQUENCE: If the DRL module melts due to the heat generation, it could cause a vehicle fire. REMEDY: The remedy for this recall campaign is still under development. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet). General Motors recall number for this campaign is 14236. NOTES: Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
