1960 Chevrolet Impala

The car starts right up and it is very dependable. This is not a car that will leave you stranded somewhere. It could be used as a daily driver if desired but a car like this should be a weekend car to get away from it all. No weird noises, oil leaks or other nasty problems.

Registration and Title

The car has been recently registered and has a clean Hawaii title. The car was purchased from California 4 years ago. It has the original Year of Manufacture plates (Yellow with black letters & matching sticker).

Accessories
I have the Owners Manual, 1960 Impala dealer pamphlet, Shop Manual, Wiring Diagrams manual, and Assembly Manual.

Body
The doors close with a nice solid thump. All panels line up perfectly. The front clip of the car has all relatively new parts (radiator support, wheel wells, hood latch, hood springs). All the weather stripping has been replaced, from the hood to the trunk. The car also has matching locks throughout, so 1 key will open all doors, trunk, glovebox, and start it up.

The frame is solid, with no visible holes or damage. The car has never been modified or cut in any way.

Glass
It has all windows and glass and they all roll up and down. No cracks or chips. However, the small vent windows have some minor bubbling around the edges, not too noticeable.

Moldings
It has all the moldings and most are in near perfect. It has minor dings and dents on the moldings but 90% are like new, still very shiny and straight. I have been told they can be fixed and polished easily if desired to be restored to showroom condition.

Paint
The paint is in ok condition. However, it is not a “show” or super quality paint job. It has some small paint chips throughout and small blemishes on the trunk area. The defects are minor, but it will be in need a paint job sooner or later. Overall it looks great and is a real head-turner whenever you take it for a ride.

Electrical
Headlights, low and high beams work. Interior dome lights work. Dash lights work. Turn signals work. Horn works. Tail lights and reverse lights work. Glovebox light works. Parking warning light works. Simply put, this is almost in perfect condition. I recently upgraded the generator to an alternator. The generator had been recently rebuilt but I wanted some more power to run the extra audio components. The Generator (charging) light also works and is wired to the alternator. It is a chrome alternator and looks really nice.

Audio
I have added new speakers in the front and rear. The factory radio does not work. However, I have wired an iPod and mp3 kit so you can play all your favorite tunes. The volume for the iPod/mp3 player is controlled from the factory radio volume knob. Set of Clarion sub-woofers in the back (non-mounted) for great sounds and a speaker in the front under the dash. Everything is powered by amp and EQ.

Engine
It has a 348 motor with an automatic transmission and it runs like a champ! Starts right up and it has plenty of power. The radiator was also re-cored in the last few years. It also has an electric fan installed. It has a 4 year old complete exhaust installed. Also has new hoses and gas cap for the gas tank. The odometer reads 89XXX. However, the odometer just  stopped working a little while back. Since then I have only put about 500 miles on the vehicle.

Brakes and Suspension
The brakes work great and were recently inspected and adjusted. The rear has new shocks. It rides real smooth.

Interior
The interior is in excellent condition, no rips or tears (it looks brand new). The carpet could use a cleaning but it has no stains, holes or tears. I have added two color matching seatbelts in the front and rear. Everything looks great and the dash is also near perfect.

Other
The trunk has a custom setup with plenty of space in the designated compartments for tools/audio/spare tire/whatever. It is wrapped in white and aqua/turquoise vinyl to match the exterior. This is not permanent and may be easily removed in 5 minutes if desired.

Rust
For the age of the car, this is certainly in good shape. However, there are some areas in need of minor attention. The trunk area has 1 or 2 some small holes (about 1” in diameter) which could be patched. However, the trunk is still very solid, I have been in the trunk while wiring up the audio and it has held up just fine. The area just behind the rear wheels are showing some small bubbling from rust. The driver side rear passenger floorpan has some rust, which has gone through but it has a metal pan installed. The floorpans are all solid overall and are fine the way they are unless you plan on fully restoring the car. Again, there is some rust but very minor and could be fixed very easily.

Wheels and Tires
The Impala is sitting on a beautiful set of Daytons. These is a bit of rust on them, and if you decide to keep them you'll probably want to have them re-chromed in the near future.
Tires are solid and in great condition.

Recent Work
Head gaskets and torque bolts
Steering coupling and gear box
New rear brake lines
New wiper motor
Axle bearings
All of this work has been done in the last 1000 miles, making this Impala a smoother ride and a lot of fun to drive.

If you've got any questions, please ask and I will do my best to answer them. Thank you for your interest.

Meet the mother-daughter team that's worked on almost every Chevy Volt

Sun, May 11 2014

It's Mother's Day, and we're soft enough we love our mothers enough to share a new video from General Motors with you. In it, we meet Monique Watson (left) and Evetta Osbourne, a mother-daughter team that works at the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly where GM makes the Chevy Volt (along with all of GM's other plug-in hybrids: the Opel Ampera, Holden Volt and Cadillac ELR). The two work side-by-side and have installed the lithium-ion battery pack on almost all of those vehicles - nearly 80,000 of them - since GM started making the pre-production Volts in 2009. In a prepared statement, Watson said that she likes working next to her mom, day in and day out, and they the two are totally in sync when it comes to putting the 400-pound, 16.5-kWh packs into the vehicle undersides. They two can also share stories throughout the day, and Watson said, "The arrangement has absolutely improved our relationship." Osborne started working at Detroit-Hamtramck in 1999, Watson since 2006. If you're driving a Volt today, you probably have them to thank for doing a bit of the work putting your car together. See a short video of them in action below. It's Always Mother's Day for Detroit-Hamtramck Duo Mother, daughter install lithium-ion battery pack in nearly all GM electric vehicles 2014-05-08 DETROIT – For Detroit resident Evetta Osborne, every day is Mother's Day. That's because she literally works side by side with her daughter, Monique Watson, at General Motors' Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant. They have installed the lithium-ion battery pack on nearly every Chevrolet Volt, Opel Ampera, Holden Volt, and Cadillac ELR since production began. In fact, apart from vacation days and an occasional sick day, the mother-daughter duo has installed almost every battery pack since the Volt was in pre-production in 2009. The ELR launched earlier this year. All told – including Ampera – that's more than 80,000 electric vehicles. "We're a good team and our relationship is secondary when it comes to performing our jobs – but it's great to work alongside my daughter, said Osborne, a mother of five. Because the battery packs weigh more than 400 pounds each, automatic guided vehicles – robotic carts that use sensors to follow a path through the plant – deliver them just as the vehicle body structures glide into position overhead. The carts then lift the T-shaped packs, and Osborne and Watson guide them into the chassis and secure each one with 24 fasteners.

GM will recall 3.5 million pickups and SUVs to fix brake issue

Wed, Sep 11 2019

WASHINGTON — General Motors Co is recalling 3.46 million U.S. pickup trucks and SUVs to address a vacuum pump issue that could make braking more difficult and increase the risk of a crash. The recall, which covers 2014-2018 model year vehicles, including some Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Silverado, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon vehicles, was triggered because the amount of vacuum created by the vacuum pump may decrease over time, GM told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in documents posted Wednesday. NHTSA opened a preliminary investigation into the issue in November 2018, and said it had reports of 9 crashes and two injuries related to the issue. It provided GM in July with additional field reports that prompted the automaker to open an investigation. The company did not immediately say on Wednesday how many injuries or crashes are linked to the issue but said it could impact braking in "rare circumstances." GM said dealers will reprogram the Electronic Brake Control Module with a new calibration that will improve how the system utilizes the hydraulic brake boost assist function when vacuum assist is depleted. GM said the vacuum assist pump, which is lubricated with engine oil that flows into the pump through a filter screen, can in some cases lose effectiveness over time, as debris such as oil sludge can accumulate on the filter screen. GM told NHTSA that prior model years used a different brake assist system design, and vehicles manufactured after 2018 were not equipped with the affected pump design. Recalls Chevrolet GM GMC

Steve McQueen's last movie car, now Pawn Stars-owned, up for auction [w/video]

Sun, 03 Feb 2013

The last car Steve McQueen ever drove in a movie is officially up for auction. The 1951 Chevrolet Styline DeLuxe Convertible you see above is now owned by none other than Rick Harrison of Pawn Stars fame, but once ferried McQueen around the set of his last film, 1980's The Hunter. That flick saw the Bullit star play a bumbling bounty hunter and didn't exactly set the box office on fire. McQueen bought the car after production wrapped, and four years later it sold at his estate sale at the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas.
Flash forward to 2003, and the convertible received a full restoration back to near-stock specifications. Hagerty Insurance estimates the car to be worth around $45,000 without the significant providence. Given its ties to one of film's most popular gearheads, the old Chevrolet could fetch up to 10 times that when it goes under the gavel in Ft Luaderdale, Florida on March 22. You can head over to the Auctions America site for more information. You can also check out the trailer for The Hunter below.
