Chevrolet El Camino Custom Standard Cab Pickup 2-d on 2040-cars
Cebolla, New Mexico, United States
This is a 1970 Chevy El Camino SS*. I am in the military and I am moving to Louisiana in May, so I need to sell this vehicle before then. Here are the features: -Engine : New 5.7L 350ci GM crate motor; it has ~7,800 miles on the motor itself. -Engine compartment: -New 4bbl 600cfm Edelbrock carburetor (Endurashine chrome) with manual choke. -New chrome intake manifold -New chrome valve covers and oil filter -New chrome air filter -New chrome water pump/pulleys/brackets -New chrome power steering pump/pulleys/brackets -New alternator (I have a chrome version as well, but it wasn't generating enough energy. I will throw it in for free if you'd like to rebuild it) -Factory AC (I took the belt off because it was old/worn, haven't replaced it). -Bought a new starter in ~October 2012 -Frame: I bought the car in Las Vegas a few years ago. The car was originally manufactured in California, and the vehicle has been in the desert the past 40 years, so it probably has the best frame of any El Camino on the road, in terms of rust. The vehicle is maintained in an environment free from smoke and rust. -Body: -Paint: Has a relatively new blue paint job. Original paint was dark red with black stripes. The paint has a few chips here and there, and there's a dent in the right side, but overall it still looks good. -Has Torq Thrust rims -Cooper Cobra tires with white lettering -Cowl Induction hood -New Xenon headlights and brights. They are bright, but not blue-colored. -Free, new car cover ($100-$200 value) -Interior (black with chrome lining): -Aftermarket radio: Panasonic stereo/CD player with Bluetooth capabilities. -Aftermarket amp and speaker (both easily removable), located behind the passenger's seat (see pictures). -New headliner and dome light set. The upholstery looks great. -Originally column shifter, but was moved to a floor shift (automatic transmission) -Has a pair of leather Lincoln seats (which I will say are super comfy, and surprisingly not that hot in the summer) instead of the bench. -Truck bed has a nice liner. -I'm currently trying to restore the steering wheel horn button. -The electrical wiring is old, so lights may occasionally go out. -The odometer is off. It currently says 5,185.2 miles. The odometer itself still adds one mile for each mile traveled, but it recently rolled over. It also shows only white on the 10,000s digit, meaning that you will get up to 9,999 before it rolls over again. I do not know the mileage of the vehicle, but I have recorded the engine's emplacement mileage at 7,392, which would mean that the engine's overall mileage is approximately 7,793 miles. *SS status: This section is for those collectors out there who are wondering how the car was originally manufactured. Using just the VIN, I can tell that it is at least a "custom" model and not a "base", and all SSes were customs. It is more likely than not that it was an SS. However, from what I've researched, the only way to actually prove whether an El Camino was originally an SS is to show a build sheet

GM 6.2L V8 claims most powerful light-duty truck engine title
Thu, 12 Sep 2013General Motors has officially captured the horsepower crown for mainstream pickup trucks with its 6.2-liter V8. The big mill, available in both the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, comes to market with 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, handily outdoing its two cross-town competitors, Ram (5.7-liter V8, 395 ponies and 407 lb-ft) and Ford (6.2-liter V8, 411 hp and 434 lb-ft).
The new GM 6.2 will take a bit of an investment, though. Those that want the extra thrust will need to go with either the LTZ or High Country trims from the Chevy, or the SLT and Denali trims from GMC, which are the two highest trim levels for the respective vehicles. Trim levels aside, if you're in the business of towing, GM has you covered. Optioned with the 6.2-liter V8 and the Max Trailering Package, owners will be able to pull 12,000 pounds, a hugely impressive figure.
We still aren't certain as to what sort of economy the new engine will get, but it'll probably be a bad bet for the fuel conscious. As for availability, expect to see the 6.2-liter trucks in showrooms later in the fall.
Recharge Wrap-up: BMW cars to share i tech, Jordan to build solar EV charging network
Wed, Jan 14 2015Jordan is looking to promote EVs and build a solar charging network. The country is waiving import tariffs on electric cars, and is spending $120 million on solar chargers. It plans to build 3,000 charging stations, along with 30 MW of solar power. Some chargers will be powered by solar canopies, while others will get electricity from nearby solar farms. Jordan's solar plan should also help to lessen the amount of energy it needs to import from nearby countries. Read more from Navigant Research, or at Green Car Reports. BMW's mainstream cars will benefit from technology borrowed from the i3 and i8, according to BMW sales head Ian Robertson. In an interview with Automotive News, Robertson said that next-generation cars will use carbon fiber more extensively, and that more cars will get plug-in technology. He said that about half of i3 buyers opt for the range extender and added that it is incorrect to refer to a range-extended electric vehicle as a plug-in hybrid. Read more at Automotive News. The ethanol market should remain healthy despite falling oil prices. While cheap oil could drive down ethanol prices, demand still remains due to the federal biofuels standard. Additionally, ethanol producers may find it cheaper to ship their products as domestic oil production drops and railroad shipping opens up. Ethanol byproducts like distillers grains continue to sell, and foreign demand continues as other countries impose their own renewable fuel standards. Read more at Yahoo News. How real is the Chevy Bolt EV and will it really cost $30,000?
Tue, Jan 13 2015"This is us bragging that we can do this kind of car." That's how Michael Simcoe, GM's executive director for NA exteriors, described the Chevy Bolt EV concept, which made a surprise appearance at the Detroit Auto Show today. While there was talk of a 2017 production debut, this is for sure a concept vehicle. But that means the ideas behind the vehicle are perhaps more important than the details. For example, no one is talking about what size battery might appear in a production Bolt, but Simcoe would talk about how rapid progress in battery improvements made it possible for GM to make the bold Bolt declaration that promises 200 miles and a price tag of around $30,000 (after incentives). But if the Bolt makes it to market, it won't be until 2017 (as rumored) or later, is it really fair to promote the car as being available with a federal tax credit? For one thing, credits for plug-in vehicles may change in the next few years, but if the laws stay the same, each manufacturer is limited to 200,000 vehicles before the credits start to decline. GM is justifiably proud that it's sold over 70,000 Volts thus far, but with a new model coming out later this year and a few years to go until the Bolt potentially arrives, GM could be pushing right up against that 200,000 limit when the Bolt goes on sale. But Volt executive chief engineer Pam Fletcher told AutoblogGreen that, "We're just trying to take some of the confusion out." "Think about talking to the average consumer," she said. "First, going through the explanation of how the federal tax credit was set up, how it's being used and so on. [In the industry, we] have the luxury of understanding the nuances of that regulation, but right now people who aren't in the marketplace, they don't have the luxury of all that. It's already hard to communicate the details so we gave them data in a way that is what they're used to seeing." There was one question that drove the two-year Bolt gestation and design period, Simcoe said: What does a better battery offer a vehicle designer? "We've got a number of spaces we play in for powertrain technology and obviously electrification is one of them," he said. "With Volt 1 and then the Spark EV, with that development and batteries getting better for us, we started doing some practical packaging to deliver a vehicle which was not the traditional aero form which you see around electric vehicles.
