Up for sale is my 1970 El Camino. This car is exactly as I bought it 5 years ago. I have too many toys and this one must leave to make more room in the garage. This car is powered by a 402 chevy big block and has plenty of power. I do not know the exact horsepower of the engine as it is not the original engine. It came off the line with a 350 small block, but the previous owner put the big block in the car and I could not get alot of information from him when I bought the car. He had the engine put in the car and was not a mechanic, so it is what it is. She is very fast and this is not a driving Miss Daisy car. It does have a posi rear end with 4:11 gears, automatic trans with a shift kit. It has IROC - Z rims that came with the car and good rubber on the tires. I do not have any other rims or tires for the car. This is a good solid car and I have not been able to find any mud in the car at all, so I believe it all to be solid metal. I am the third owner of the car. The last owner of the car owned it for 28 years and sold it to me when his health started to fail. The origianl color of the car was orange, but was air brushed painted for show. It was an original Detroit Autorama show car and then painted the current color. I did not pick the color as it sits now, but get alot of compliments on the car. This is the original milage on the car. The frame is very solid as is the whole car. It does have 1 small tear in the headliner and the seats are not original. The seats are out of an old Pontiac Fiero and are in good condition. The gauges on the hood all work. The lighter and gas gauge do not work. I have a new lighter for the car, but have not worked on the gas gauge. I do believe that it is just a bad ground. Everything else works correctly on the car. It does not have air conditioning. All the running lights and back up lights work. I did put a new radio in the car with 4 speakers. It is a MP3/CD player with remote. It also has air shocks in the rear with drum brakes rear and disc brakes in the front. Like I said this is a fast car and you will not be disappointed with the engine and powertrain. The car has been stored in my heated garage since I bought her. I will not accept paypal for this item. I will only accept cash or certified bank checks. I will not take any trades or silly offers, so please don't bother asking. The car is also for sale locally and I reserve the right to pull the listing at any time. I am not a mechanic and can only answer certain questions about the car. I have listed the car with a very resonable reserve price and will supply all documentation that I have for the car including a clear Ohio title. I will not deliver this car. The buyer is responsible for pick up or delivery of the vehicle. I live about 20 minutes west of Cleveland, OH where the car can be viewed. I have descibed the car as honestly as possible. If you have any questions, please shoot me an email and I will answer them as best I can. Thank you in advance and good luck bidding. |

Burt Reynolds' vehicles up for auction at Barrett-Jackson
Tue, Sep 25 2018Burt Reynolds' influence on car culture cannot be overstated. Be it "Smokey and the Bandit" or "Cannonball Run," his films inspired a generation of car enthusiasts. He died a few weeks back from cardiac arrest at age 82. This weekend, four vehicles from Reynolds' personal collection — three Pontiacs and a Chevy — will go up for auction at Barrett-Jackson in Las Vegas. It seems Reynolds had plans to sell the cars before he passed. He even filmed a short teaser for the auction and planned to attend the event himself. Three of the cars are Pontiac Trans Ams. Two are re-creations of the cars he drove in "Bandit" and the film "Hooper." Both are 1978 models. The third Trans Am is from 1984 and was used to promote Reynolds' USFL team, the Tampa Bay Bandits. The fourth vehicle is a 1978 Chevy R30 pickup truck. It's styled like the truck he drove in "Cannonball Run." None of the vehicles were actually used in the movies. But they were registered in his name, making them far more legitimate than some other movie-inspired clones. It's unclear how many Bandit Trans Ams Reynolds has owned over the years. Another car connected to him sold for $450,000 back in 2014. His death is sure to drive the price of these new cars even higher. General Motors CEO Provides Few Details In Appearance Before Congress
Wed, Apr 2 2014It was only two months ago that Mary Barra, freshly crowned as the new General Motors chief executive officer, visited Washington DC as an esteemed guest of First Lady Michelle Obama for the State of the Union address. On Tuesday, Barra returned to the Capitol under more strained circumstances. For more than two contentious hours, she took questions from members of a House of Representatives subcommittee investigating General Motors years-long delay in initiating a recall of millions of vehicles that contained a defect that has killed at least 13 people. Why did GM accept faulty ignition switches that were below the company's set specfications? Why did GM learn about the problem in 2001 yet take no action until 2014? Will GM compensate victims' families even though the company's bankruptcy may limit its liability? Those were a few of the questions members of the House Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee asked. Few concrete answers were forthcoming. For her part, Barra sidestepped most of the questions, saying she wouldn't have information needed to answer them until an internal review is completed. David Friedman, the administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, testified after Barra. The biggest news that emerged from the hearing was that General Motors has retained attorney Kenneth Feinberg to advise the company on its civil and legal responsibilities. He has made a career of resolving disputes and serving in a 'fixer' role, serving as the chief of the federal government's September 11th Victim Compensation Fund, as an administrator of compensation fund for victims of the BP Deepwater Horizon disaster and a similar fund for victims of the Boston Marathon bombing. Barra, who has been GM's CEO since January but been with the company since 1980, expects to meet with Feinberg on Friday, and have a concrete plan within the next 30-60 days. Yet Barra would not say for certain Tuesday that GM would compensate the victims at all. Despite repeated questions from Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.), Barra did not outline the company's intentions. "I assume GM is hiring (Feinberg) to help identify the size of claims and then compensate the victims? Is that right," DeGette asked. "Is GM willing to put together some kind of a compensation fund for these victims that Mr. Feinberg will then administer?" "We've hired him to help assess the situation," Barra replied. "So really, there's no money involved at this point," DeGette asked.
NHTSA, IIHS, and 20 automakers to make auto braking standard by 2022
Thu, Mar 17 2016The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and virtually every automaker in the US domestic market have announced a pact to make automatic emergency braking standard by 2022. Here's the full rundown of companies involved: BMW, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Tesla, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo (not to mention the brands that fall under each automaker's respective umbrella). Like we reported yesterday, AEB will be as ubiquitous in the future as traction and stability control are today. But the thing to note here is that this is not a governmental mandate. It's truly an agreement between automakers and the government, a fact that NHTSA claims will lead to widespread adoption three years sooner than a formal rule. That fact in itself should prevent up to 28,000 crashes and 12,000 injuries. The agreement will come into effect in two waves. For the majority of vehicles on the road – those with gross vehicle weights below 8,500 pounds – AEB will need to be standard equipment by September 1, 2022. Vehicles between 8,501 and 10,000 pounds will have an extra three years to offer AEB. "It's an exciting time for vehicle safety. By proactively making emergency braking systems standard equipment on their vehicles, these 20 automakers will help prevent thousands of crashes and save lives," said Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx said in an official statement. "It's a win for safety and a win for consumers." Read on for the official press release from NHTSA. Automakers making the commitment are Audi, BMW, FCA US LLC, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Maserati, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan, Porsche, Subaru, Tesla Motors Inc., Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo Car USA.
