Merced, California, United States

Up for sale is this 1966 Chevrolet El Camino that was factory equipped with a 327/275hp engine and 4 speed transmission. This El Camino was built in the Fremont, CA factory and sold new at Barton's Chevrolet of Yorba Linda, CA. This El Camino has spent it's entire life in a dry California climate and is still registered to it's original California black plates. This El Camino is believed to have just over 59k original miles. This El Camino had sat in the garage of the original owner until 2012 when it was bought from the original owners estate. At the time of purchase it had sat unused for more than a few years and needed some freshening up before being put back into daily use. The original interior was dry, faded, cracked, and had split seams so it was time to get refreshed with a mostly new factory style interior which includes: headliner, sunvisors, seat upholstery, door seals, carpet, arm rests, dash pad, and a few other odds and ends. The engine and transmission also received some attention: new rear main seal, transmission input and output shaft seals, new clutch kit, engine and transmission mounts, full tune up, carb rebuild, fuel pump, V belt, fan shroud, and hoses. Brakes are also rebuilt with all new flex lines, master cylinder, wheel cylinders, and brake shoes. The engine runs smooth and has plenty of power. Transmission shifts smooth. Brakes work as they should. The paint is mostly original and is in respectable condition for it's age. Same goes for all the brightwork and trim. This El Camino is very dry in all of the usual rust areas: floors, hood, fenders, bed, quarters, etc. are all rust free. The only area with any rust is very minimal along the bottom edge of the rear window, and is very minimal compared to most. All glass in original and in good condition with the exception of a chip in the front windshield center. All electrical works as it should: Original T-3 headlights, tail lights, brake lights, glove box light, horn, dash lights, gauges, oil/generator/temp lights, wipers, wiper squirters, reverse lights, dome light, cigarette lighter, etc. all work as they should. The radio and the clock are the only things that don't currently work. One key works all locks and ignition. All original manuals are included: owners manual, accessories brochure, protect-o-plate, and some other items that came with the car when purchased new. Also included are a set of dog dish hupcaps and the original smog pump equipment. This El Camino is a daily driver and is very pleasant to drive and gets many compliments wherever it goes. I wouldn't hesitate to get in and drive this thing anywhere. Overall this is a very nice original 2 owner survivor and you would be hard pressed to find another in this condition anytime soon. Clear California title included with the sale along with current registration.

How long will the 'golden age' of performance last?

Sat, Mar 26 2016

High-powered sports and luxury cars were everywhere at the New York Auto Show, prompting the obvious question for enthusiasts: How long will this golden age of performance last? Industry leaders have some time before regulations elevate the Corporate Average Fuel Economy level in 2025. Even then, they expect cars rippling with power to survive in some form. "Is it the end of an era," I don't think so," said Ola Kallenius, Daimler AG board member for Mercedes-Benz cars marketing and sales. "That performance element of individual mobility I don't think will ever go away." Kallenius, who oversaw the company's AMG division from 2010-2013, expects it to continue to grow. Last year, AMG sold a record 68,875 units around the world, an increase of 44.6 percent over 2014, with strong growth in the US, China, and Germany. Still, there's always the potential for gas to spike, and pending fuel economy regulations are looming. That could lead AMG to add electrification to its products, Kallenius said, pointing to the electric SLS as a test case. Chevy is also thinking ahead, said Al Oppenheiser, chief engineer of the Camaro. He wouldn't bite when asked about electrification for the Camaro (he did say "never say never"), but admitted in 2025 "it's going to be pretty tough to sell V8s." For now, things are rosy for muscle cars, and Chevy confidently showcased the 640-hp Camaro ZL1 in coupe and convertible form in New York. "I think that this is truly the golden age of performance," Oppenheiser said. It's hard to disagree. News & Analysis News: The 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF was a show-stopper in New York. Analysis: There was a palpable energy when this RF — for Retractable Fastback — was revealed the night before the show at a trendy off-site venue near the Hudson River. Even as a parade of SUVs and flashy luxury cars rolled out the rest of the week, the Miata remained a hot topic. The Retractable Fastback is really a clever targa top, with part of the roof stowing behind the seats, adding about 100 pounds compared to the standard convertible. It makes the car more practical and arguably more attractive. The RF continues Mazda's tradition of selling the Miata with a hardtop variant. The first and second generations offered a detachable one, and a power retractable hardtop (a $1,700 option) was available on third-gen models. Judging by its reception in New York, the RF could prove to be even more popular than its predecessors.

Netflix to feature electric cars from GM and others in programming

Sun, Feb 5 2023

LOS ANGELES — Netflix has unveiled a new star for some of its upcoming programming: electric vehicles from General Motors and other automakers. The streaming service announced an agreement on Thursday to feature vehicles including the Chevrolet Bolt, the electric GMC Hummer pickup and the Cadillac Lyriq in TV series and films "where relevant." The companies will highlight the partnership in a commercial featuring Will Ferrell that will air during the Feb. 12 Super Bowl. Netflix and GM called the agreement "part of a commitment to a more sustainable future." Financial terms were not disclosed. Netflix said it will help creators "better understand how EVs can complement and enhance their stories." Shows that will feature GM's electric vehicles include "Love is Blind," "Queer Eye" and "Unstable." Netflix productions also will include electric vehicles made by other automakers, the company said.   Marketing/Advertising TV/Movies Chevrolet GM GMC Hummer

Plug In 2014: VIA makes the case for 'free' plug-in hybrid work vans, trucks

Fri, Aug 1 2014

If you're a fleet manager who's been waiting anxiously for the chance to buy a plug-in hybrid van from Via Motors, your wait is almost over. If you work for the right fleet, anyway. David West, the chief marketing efficer for VIA Motors, took AutoblogGreen for a ride around the San Jose Convention Center in a Via van sporting an Electric Blue paint job as part of the Plug In 2014 Conference this week and gave us an update on how things are coming along. The big news is that the Via PHEV van production is going to start by the end of September. Via can currently build two vans an hour at its production plant in Mexico, or about 16 a day and could easily double that. "That would get us to 20,000 a year with two full lines running," West said. "We have the capacity." "There is no way gas can compete with electric." – David West, Via Motors But they can't sell that many quite yet. By the end of December, around 350 Vans will be made, mostly for a $20-million program from the Department of Energy (DOE) and the South Coast Air Quality Management District that will see the vehicles used by fleets that will report energy data to the Idaho National Lab. Via is also finishing up CARB certification for both the van and the company's plug-in hybrid pick-up truck. About 50 percent of Via's technology in the truck will not need to be tested again, since it's the same as what's in the van, but things like crash tests will need to be done twice. Despite the progress, this is not where Via hoped it would be today. The bankruptcy of battery supplier A123, "took about a year off our timeline," West said. "It's been getting a little slow getting it to market, there have been some challenges, particuarly since we had the country's worst recession right in the middle of this wrap up, but it's inevitable in my mind. There is no way gas can compete with electric." Maybe that's why FedEx has expressed an interest in buying around 5,000 units, West said. FedEx already has some pilot vehicles, just like Verizon does, and PG&E wants to replace all of their gas trucks with electric vehicles, which would be another 3,000 sales, he said. Besides the fuel savings, vehicles like these, with easy on-site power generation, could also work wonders in post-disaster situations, he said, since they could replace the need for generators.
