I have my 1964 El Camino that was a father son project that never happened! This was going to be my son's first car. It just wasn't what he wanted, so I got him something newer.

This car has factory air with factory power steering it came with drum brakes. Still has black plates, I put a good running 70s 350 engine, mileage on engine unknown, it has full tube headers, new 2 1/2 dual exhaust with Turbo mufflers, aluminum intake,  Edelbrock carb, chrome valve covers & air cleaner. It has a Turbo 350 with shift kit, the trans was rebuilt when I put in. When I was building this car I had replaced a lot of parts, new hood hinges, front suspension new tie rods, A arm bushings, stabilizer bushings, cut a coil, has a nice stance! I t has a set of Crager 14x7 wheels. Gauges under dash. All the glass is in good shape, the headliner is intact, bench seat needs recovered, someone has put some metal pieces in floor boards. The body is in pretty good shape it's not all beat up, the tail gate is the worst part of it. I found 1 spot of rust on rt front fender at the bottom (see pic), left rear quarter panel at the lens will need some attention (pics). Depending on your mechanical ability, it could use a new wiring harness or fix the fuse panel at the fire wall. I had it all working in 2003, as you can see in the pics it's a mess now. The car starts right up, trans shifts, it has brakes but it's not road worthy. This car was last registered in 2003, I thought I had put it on NON OP, but didn't! So some DMV fees will be needed to register. I have some extra parts to go with it such as a New carpet kit (Black), behind the seat is a bunch of moldings for the bed rails, some lens, mirrors. I think have some more parts for it, what ever I find it will go with the car.  This is a great start for a restoration, father son project!

Poor headlights cause 40 cars to miss IIHS Top Safety Pick rating

Mon, Aug 6 2018

Over the past few months, we've noticed a number of cars and SUVs that have come incredibly close to earning one of the IIHS's highest accolades, the Top Safety Pick rating. They have great crash test scores and solid automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning systems. What trips them up is headlights. That got us wondering, how many vehicles are there that are coming up short because they don't have headlights that meet the organization's criteria for an "Acceptable" or "Good" rating. This is a revision made after 2017, a year in which headlights weren't factored in for this specific award. This is also why why some vehicles, such as the Ford F-150, might have had the award last year, but have lost it for this year. We reached out to someone at IIHS to find out. He responded with the following car models. Depending on how you count, a whopping 40 models crash well enough to receive the rating, but don't get it because their headlights are either "Poor" or "Marginal." We say depending on how you count because the IIHS actual counts truck body styles differently, and the Infiniti Q70 is a special case. Apparently the version of the Q70 that has good headlights doesn't have adequate forward collision prevention technology. And the one that has good forward collision tech doesn't have good enough headlights. We've provided the entire list of vehicles below in alphabetical order. Interestingly, it seems the Volkswagen Group is having the most difficulty providing good headlights with its otherwise safe cars. It had the most models on the list at 9 split between Audi and Volkswagen. GM is next in line with 7 models. It is worth noting again that though these vehicles have subpar headlights and don't quite earn Top Safety Pick awards, that doesn't mean they're unsafe. They all score well enough in crash testing and forward collision prevention that they would get the coveted award if the lights were better.

Watch this creative way to pull a truck's engine

Fri, 08 Mar 2013

Living in an apartment complex has its benefits, but for shade-tree mechanics who like/need to work on their own cars, it definitely has a number of disadvantages. Relatively simple tasks such as brake jobs and oil changes are difficult when you don't have dedicated driveway space, to say nothing of more in-depth repairs... like pulling an engine, for example.
For these types of challenges, a little ingenuity and plenty of muscle are needed to get the job done. Scroll down to watch these four men snatch the V8 out of a Chevrolet K1500 using nothing but a chain, landscape timber and good ol' fashioned brute strength. Good work, gentlemen.

First 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray spotted crashed in the wild

Tue, 12 Feb 2013

This restyled blue 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is wearing manufacturer plates, and it appears to be the same one seen around the internet in various pictures lately. This crash is likely not part of the Chevrolet testing regimen, however. Digital Corvettes forum member gpetry posted the shot with a note: "got this picture e-mailed from a friend in Arizona last week..." No circumstances are given, other than the incident occurred in the thick of a set of curvy roads, and the coupe ping-ponged off a guardrail and into the rock wall. Hopefully everyone involved in the incident walked away.
It may not be a pretty thing to see, a crashed sports car that's not even available for sale yet, but rest easy. Many pre-production cars are used for development and then unceremoniously crushed and scrapped, anyway. If that's the case here, that makes this wrecked 'Vette less of a tragedy and more of a case of exceptional efficiency.
