How easy is it to rebuild a Chevy small block V8?
Sat, Mar 21 2015Chevrolet's famous small block V8 stands as one of the workhorse engines in American auto history, with its variants going into vehicles from hot rods to pickup trucks. But do you know that you can fully disassemble and completely restore one of these mills in just under four minutes? Well, as long as there's some assistance from time-lapse photography, that is. Hagerty created this short clip showing a dirt-covered small block turning from a frog into a prince. Thankfully, the time-lapse doesn't speed the process up too much, and it's still easy to see how all of the principal parts fit together. With all sorts of sensors and software helping to drive the modern automobile, viewing the internal combustion engine in its purely mechanical form is still fascinating. Related Video:
Chevy Silverado WT gets its own murdered-out trim pack
Fri, Feb 20 2015Media days for the 2015 Chicago Auto Show ended last week, but that hasn't stopped Chevrolet from adding just one more thing. The Bowtie brand showed off three new trim packages for its trucks in the Windy City – the Colorado GearOn and the Silverado Midnight and Custom – but protests from consumers over the price of these equipment packs has led the company to release a new trim group for its most affordable fullsizer, the Silverado WT. The $1,595 Black Out pack will be available on both the regular- and double-cab Silverado WT and offers a few simple, stylistic upgrades. Five-spoke, 20-inch black wheels are the headlining item, although Chevy will also include "deep tinted glass" and black bowtie badges both fore and aft. Available only in black (the company even paraphrases old Mr. Ford in its press release), the new package adds just enough to class up the otherwise dreary looking Work Truck. Chevy has only released one image for the time being, available up top. Dealers, meanwhile, are currently taking orders. Check below for the brief press release. Chevrolet Silverado Work Trucks Get Blacked Out DETROIT – Chevrolet is adding a $1,595 Black Out package for regular- and double-cab 2015 Silverado 1500 WT models. The package is available for order now, and customers can have any color they want, as long as it is black. 2014 Chevy Silverado High Country spied wearing trappings of new luxury trim
Wed, 03 Apr 2013Spy photographers have spotted the new Chevrolet Silverado High Country and GMC Sierra Denali out on public streets for a little testing. From the looks of things, the Silverado will receive a much-differentiated front fascia along with special badges and those honking 20-inch chrome wheels. Expect to find a more posh interior as well. Likewise, the Sierra Denali will wear a tweaked nose with the familiar Denali bling. The one of the GMC trucks spotted here rolls on 21-inch gunmetal wheels instead of the 20-inch chrome pieces of the High Country.
Word has it both trucks will go on sale after the Texas State Fair this summer. While General Motors hasn't said for certain what we can expect to find under the hood, we'd be surprised to see anything outside of the range of engines found in the standard Silverado and Sierra models. That means buyers should be able to get their hands on the efficient, 23-miles per gallon 5.3-liter V8.
