The cover article in the November 2006 Vette Magazine about this car was entitled “Overkill” and the headline questioned, “Could J.R. Granatelli’s twin turbo terror be the most powerful C5 on the road?” I am pleased to present that very potent 972 HP 2004 Corvette Z06. This is a 1 of 1. This car was modified by Granatelli Motorsports and owner Joe Granatelli who is the nephew of motorsports legend Andy Grantelli. The car only has 7000 +/- miles on it and the VIN # is 1G1YY12S445108803. The color of the car has obviously been changed to a dark custom black cherry (formerly yellow as seen in the magazine articles). . The Z06 is a great car, but Granatelli Motorsports turned this Z06 into an AMAZING car. Highlights of the car include: – Granatelli Twin Turbo kit featuring two Turbonetics 76mm ball bearing turbochargers producing 972 RWHP and 1057 lb./ft. at 12 psi (max boost) – Engine bored and stroked to a 427 – LS6 block with Darton sleeves – Lunati forged crank/rods and Ross forged pistons – 8.8:1 compression ratio – TTI intercooler – Granatelli exhaust with Corsa mufflers – Granatelli Motorsports LS2 mass air sensor – Granatelli 0 ohm plug wires – FAST intake manifold – Carbon fiber hood and carbon fiber door sill inserts – Exedy carbon fiber clutch – Twin Bosch 930 high pressure turbo fuel pumps manage the fuel system and sub-system (extra 5 gallon fuel cell) – G-force T-56 6 speed transmission – May 2015 – added new premium ceramic front brake pads – Adjustable wastegate and in-dash boost controller to go from mild to wild – EFI Live mapping software to mazimize the fuel/air/spark mixture – Baer Extreme-Plus 6R 6 piston brakes – Classic Design Concepts Tiger Shark front and rear fascias – RKSport carbon fiber hood – Catz HID conversion – HRE Granatelli Signature Series 19? wheels – Stock 3:31 gears with Mark Williams halfshafts – Michelin Pilot Sport tires – -275/40ZR-19 Front, 345/35ZR-19 rear – Weight 3125 purchased this vehicle for $60,000 in 2004 and invested another $125,000 (his cost) in time – 9.76 at 154 MPH – Runs on pump gas – achieves approx. 20mpg during normal driving conditions – has a 9 gallon fuel tank and a 3 gallon auxilliary fuel tank in front

IIHS gives good ratings to 4 of 8 midsize pickups in crash test

Wed, Sep 6 2017

Versions of the Toyota Tacoma, Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon Crew Cab earned top ratings in a new crash test of midsize pickup trucks from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, while two versions of the Nissan Frontier earned marginal ratings. But the organization gave poor marks to all eight pickups tested for their dim headlights. Overall, four of the eight pickups evaluated earned good ratings for protecting occupants in all five crash test categories — the Tacoma double cab along with crew cab versions of the Colorado, Canyon and Tacoma. But the poor headlights and lack of an automatic emergency braking system blocked any of the pickups from qualifying for the IIHS's Top Safety Pick awards. The study looked at two pickup body styles using 2017 models: crew cabs, which have four full doors and two full rows of seating, and extended cabs, which have two full front doors, two smaller rear doors and compact second-row seats. It subjected each to five tests, and it evaluated the performance of front crash prevention systems and headlights. The Toyota Tacoma crew cab was the only pickup in that class that earned a good rating for structure in the small overlap test, which replicates what happens when a vehicle clips a tree, pole or another vehicle that has crossed the center line. The model's Access Cab extended-cab version was rated similarly, though its structure was rated acceptable. "This group of small pickups performed better in the small overlap front test than many of their larger pickup cousins," says David Zuby, the Institute's executive vice president and chief research officer. "The exception was the Nissan Frontier, which hasn't had a structural redesign since the 2005 model year." The extended-cab versions of the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon earned acceptable ratings, while both the Nissan Frontier king-cab and crew-cab models were rated marginal. Toyota says its 2018 Tacoma will feature upgraded headlights and a standard autobraking system that can detect pedestrians. "Headlights are basic but vital safety equipment. Drivers shouldn't have to give up the ability to see the road at night when they choose a small pickup," Zuby said. Chevy Corvette gets Valet Mode with Performance Data Recorder [w/video]

Mon, 18 Aug 2014

For the 2015-model-year, Chevrolet introduces Valet Mode for the Corvette, an enhancement to the Performance Data Recorder (PDR) already available and to your peace of mind. The PDR already captures 720p HD video with a windshield-mounted camera, records interior audio with a cabin microphone and gathers telemetry data using GPS, saving the data to an SD card in the glovebox. You can then watch your track-day antics with various information overlays on the center console screen.
Valet Mode will let you hit 'Replay' when your car gets pulled up front smelling vaguely of fricasseed clutch. Turned on by entering a four-digit code, it also locks the interior storage spaces and turns off the infotainment system. It can't be turned off until the code is re-entered. There's a press release below with more information as well as a video that explains how it works, with the obligatory dig at the 'Vette's biggest foe.

Recharge Wrap-up: BMW cars to share i tech, Jordan to build solar EV charging network

Wed, Jan 14 2015

Jordan is looking to promote EVs and build a solar charging network. The country is waiving import tariffs on electric cars, and is spending $120 million on solar chargers. It plans to build 3,000 charging stations, along with 30 MW of solar power. Some chargers will be powered by solar canopies, while others will get electricity from nearby solar farms. Jordan's solar plan should also help to lessen the amount of energy it needs to import from nearby countries. Read more from Navigant Research, or at Green Car Reports. BMW's mainstream cars will benefit from technology borrowed from the i3 and i8, according to BMW sales head Ian Robertson. In an interview with Automotive News, Robertson said that next-generation cars will use carbon fiber more extensively, and that more cars will get plug-in technology. He said that about half of i3 buyers opt for the range extender and added that it is incorrect to refer to a range-extended electric vehicle as a plug-in hybrid. Read more at Automotive News. The ethanol market should remain healthy despite falling oil prices. While cheap oil could drive down ethanol prices, demand still remains due to the federal biofuels standard. Additionally, ethanol producers may find it cheaper to ship their products as domestic oil production drops and railroad shipping opens up. Ethanol byproducts like distillers grains continue to sell, and foreign demand continues as other countries impose their own renewable fuel standards. Read more at Yahoo News. Via Motors will launch the production of an electric Chevrolet Silverado. The company will convert the pickups into range-extended EVs at its assembly line in Mexico, near GM's Silverado plant. Via Motors Chairman (and former GM Vice Chairman during the early days of the Chevrolet Volt project) Bob Lutz wants to help make EVs mainstream in America, and believes that requires electrifying pickups and SUVs.
