This 1963 Corvette Convertible has had a recent total body off restoration. It was refinished in the correct trim tag color (936) Ermine White with a (490M) Red interior.Read this description carefully if you intend to purchase this car. I am including everything I know about the car including any flaws. I realize it is difficult to buy a car from photos and description. Please contact me through the ebay system with any questions. If you can see it personally, I will be pleased to show it to you. Body: Excellent quality BC/CC PPG Ermine White paint. Body lines are as good or better than factory, except rears of doors are a little low where they line up with the quarter panels (see photos). Also, there is a small stress crack at the corner of the left headlight door. (photo)All the plating is new, stainless is polished. Gas cap is incorrect , from a 1965 or 1966 model. Most 1963 type reproductions have tool marks: I was waiting to get a good one. Glass is all the factory installed LOF, most likely all original glass in very good condition. Some very small chips in windshield - no wiper marks. Windows, vent windows open and close smoothly. Wheel covers are polished with new reproduction spinners. The 6 bars on each hubcap have light pitting on some of them. Tires are American Classic radials 1" WW - with very low miles on them. Spare tire is used but very good WW. I do not have the jack, but that is an easy item to locate because it was also used on the Corvair. All lights, headlight doors, wiper, washers, etc. operate as normal. Hardtop & Soft Top: Hardtop has been restored with new headliner, fasteners, and weatherstripping. (See photo) Soft top vinyl is new. Soft top frame is clean, painted and like new. Interior: All soft trim, weatherstripping, everything is fresh and new. Gas gauge is not working correctly - may need recalibrated. Moving float in tank moves the gauge but not full range. This isn't a big problem because it's easy to look down into the tank to see the amount of fuel in it. Everything else in the dash works correctly. Speedometer was recalibrated, but odometer miles were left alone at about 48,000. There is no way of knowing what the true miles are. Radio is a new reproduction Wonderbar AM/FM still under warranty. Engine: The 327 motor is correct for the car, but is not the original motor. The motor in the car is a rare 1968 Nova L79 Hi-po motor- one of only 1274 made that year. Casting #3914678- Stamped V0523EP. Engine was built before I purchased the car. It is cammed with roller rockers, Edelbrook Torker II, etc. I changed the valve covers and the heads, rockers, etc. were very clean - fresh build. Runs strong, more power than I need at 70 years of age. It sounds great running through factory type mufflers and pipes. Original Delco tach distributor. Chromed water pump and alternator are shiny but not show chrome. Correctly dated reproduction coolant tank, battery cables, hoses, ignition shielding, etc.. Chassis: Everything under the car is repainted, new or refurbished. New trailing arms, shocks, coils, brakes, exhaust system, etc. (see photos) There is a dent in the lower frame rail down low on the frame near the rear wheel. (see photo) This car once had side pipes on it. It appears the side pipe was hit near the rear wheel and the pipe pushed into the frame rail, which put a dent in the frame rail. The damage was below the body, so there was no body damage. The frame was not damaged and never needed straightened. It is just a superficial dent that I want the buyer to know about. Transmission: The 4 speed transmission shifts as designed and has the factory Corvette shifter in place. On 2 occasions in the past, when going down a hill in a lower gear (2nd or 3rd, I don't remember) it came out of gear. I have since adjusted the linkage and it hasn't happened since. Not sure what's going on there. At the worst it may need a synchro at some time in the future.Shipping: Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. I will help where I can to coordinate pick up by your transportation company.

GM warning 800,000 owners that their cars may need oil changes more frequently than they say

Fri, 05 Apr 2013

The days of changing your engine oil every 3,000 miles are long gone thanks to most cars having automatic oil monitoring systems, but about 800,000 General Motors vehicles apparently have incorrect monitoring software that is leading to premature engine component wear. According to Autoweek, certain 2010-2012 Buick LaCrosse, Regal, Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain models equipped with 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines could be going too long in between oil changes resulting in a higher-than-normal number of warranty claims for the engine's balance chain. The balance chain links the balance shaft to the crankshaft, and a worn one can produce higher noise levels.
As a fix, GM dealers will be reprogramming the software for the monitors in an effort to reduce the interval between oil changes, which varies based on driving habits and conditions. Through February 2015, the software update will be done at no cost to vehicle owners, but since this is not a recall, after that point, it will be up to the discretion of dealers as to whether or not they will charge for the service. What isn't immediately clear is whether GM plans on giving assistance to out-of-warranty customers who are experiencing engine issues from the worn chain.

10 electric cars we’re excited are coming soon

Thu, Sep 22 2022

If you were considering buying an electric vehicle a couple years ago, we wouldn't fault you for thinking your options were limited, both in terms of quantity and quality. You just might not have been able to find an electric car that would suit your needs, lifestyle or budget. With the newest generation of EVs that have launched in the past year or two, your options have changed — and improved — dramatically. If you still don't see an EV you like, just wait a little while longer. It won't take long. There are a whole lot more on the horizon, and the problem may soon be in narrowing down your options. To give you an example, here are 10 electric vehicles we're excited about that you'll be able to buy very soon, from GM, from Germany, from Japan and more. Some of these will be available by the end of the year, and all are expected to launch by the end of 2023. The Chevy trio: 2024 Blazer EV, Equinox EV and Silverado EV GM is stepping into the future with strong footing. Following high-end electric launches from GMC (Hummer EV) and Cadillac (Lyriq), Chevrolet is bringing three electric vehicles with familiar nameplates. The 2024 Chevy Blazer EV (above left) will offer a number of versions, starting with the 2LT and RS trims in the summer of 2023, followed by the 557-horsepower SS in the fall and the base 1LT in early 2024. The 2024 Chevy Equinox EV (above right) will go on sale in fall 2023 as a limited-edition model, with volume sales ramping up in 2024, with a base cost of “around $30,000.” For those who prefer a bed to a liftgate, the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV is an electric pickup that looks more like the old Chevy Avalanche than the current Silverado. The WT (work truck) trim launches in fall 2023, while the 664-horsepower RST will follow in 2024. It should go on sale before the end of 2022. The i7 xDrive60 will be the only variant, with its two motors providing a total of 536 horsepower and 549 pound-feet of torque, and its battery expected to offer a range of about 300 miles. Just like its internal combustion counterpart, this full-size sedan wonÂ’t come cheap, with the i7 starting at $120,295. 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 Following the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 and Genesis GV60, the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 will be the fourth car using Hyundai GroupÂ’s E-GMP electric car architecture.

Want a V8 on the cheap? Buy a work truck

Thu, Aug 3 2017

In case you didn't notice, V8 cars have gotten pretty expensive. If you want a modern muscle car like the Dodge Challenger R/T, Ford Mustang GT, or Chevy Camaro SS, you'll need between $34,000 and $38,000 for a stripped out example of one. The cheapest of those is the Challenger, and the priciest is the Camaro. These are also the cheapest V8 cars the companies offer. But if you absolutely have to have a V8 for less, there is an option, work trucks. As it turns out, all of the Big Three offer their most basic work trucks with V8s. And because they're so basic, they're pretty affordable, especially when sticking with the standard two-wheel drive. A Ram 1500 Tradesman with a V8 can be had for as little as $29,840, which is a little more than $4,000 less than a Challenger R/T. For a bit more at $30,275, you can have a Chevy Silverado W/T, almost $8,000 less than a Camaro SS. The most expensive is the V8 Ford F-150 starts at a starting price of $30,670, which is a bit over $5,000 less than the Mustang. Of course you'll be in an ultra bare bones vehicle with few comforts, and the price will go up if you add stuff, but we're bargain hunting here, and sacrifices are sometimes necessary. Besides, what you lose in comfort, you gain in loads of cargo space and towing (try to look at the bright side). Also, as a side note, all three trucks are available with optional electronic locking rear differentials. At the discounted price of these trucks, you still get a heaping helping of power. The most potent of the trio is the Ram 1500 Tradesman with 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque generated by a 5.7-liter V8. Compared with the Challenger R/T, the Ram is up by 20 horsepower and they're tied for torque. The value proposition is even more stark between the two vehicles when looking at the price per horsepower. Each pony in the Ram costs $75.54, while the Challenger charges you $90.91. The Challenger is also more expensive per horsepower than its close competitors. The F-150's 5.0-liter V8 is just barely behind the Ram with 395 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. That's still more power than the Challenger, and it matches the torque of the 2017 Mustang GT. On the down side, it still would be down 20 horsepower on that same 2017 Mustang, and it's behind by 60 horsepower and 20 pound-feet on the new 2018 Mustang GT. The F-150 also just edges out the Mustang in the dollar per horsepower measure.
