Anniversary Corvette starts out as a special order Grand Sport that gets
prepped for Callaway at the Bowling Green Corvette Factory, thanks to Regular
Production Option Code B2K. From there it’s up to Old Lyme where the real magic
takes place and the transformation is a lot more intense than just slapping
some 25th Anniversary badges and calling it a day. This car was designed to
represent Callaway’s 25 years in the high performance business; and with
performance being the key word, this car had better bring it. Have no
fear, as it packs the highest output LS3 V8 ever to roll out of the Callaway
shop in a Corvette. 620-horsepower and 555 lb-ft. of torque with the help of
the usual TVS2300 supercharger, high ratio rocker arms, and upgraded valve
springs and pushrods. Fuel delivery is aided by a new fuel pump and injectors.
So, we’re off to the track to really get this party started. Sitting at
the line, hearing as well as feeling this Corvette’s lurking nastiness makes it
hard to be patient, but patience is certainly required when it comes to
throttle inputs and getting off the line with any traction. After a few warm up
runs however, we were able to get hooked up and nailed a 3.4-second run to 60
and a quarter mile pass of 10.8-seconds and 128 miles-per-hour. That’s
two-tenths quicker to 60 and a full half second faster in the quarter mile than
the Callaway SC606 Corvette that we tested earlier.

Question of the Day: What's the most irritating car name?
Wed, Mar 9 2016You hear a lot about how the Chevrolet Nova was a sales flop in Mexico because "No va" means "it doesn't go" in Spanish; in fact, the Nova sold pretty well south of the border, and in any case most Spanish-speakers know that "Nova" means "new" in Latin and Portuguese. However, General Motors doesn't deserve to be let off the hook for bad car names, because the Oldsmobile Achieva— no doubt inspired by the excruciating "coffee achievers" ads of the 1980s— scrapes the biggest fingernails down the screechiest chalkboard in the US-market car-name world. That is, unless you think Daihatsu's incomprehensible choice of Charade was worse. Meanwhile, Japanese car buyers could get machines with cool names like Mazda Bongo Friendee or Honda Life Dunk. It's just not fair! So, what car name drives you the craziest? Related Video: Auto News Design/Style Chevrolet Honda Mazda Daihatsu Automotive History questions car names
Chevy Trax engineer says GMC version possible
Mon, Dec 8 2014The Buick Encore is doing so well and its platform-mate the Chevrolet Trax has such good reviewer vibes going for it already, that a GMC version hasn't been ruled out. During the recent press launch, Automotive News asked lead engineer Al Manzor if the Trax could wear a GMC-branded suit, to which Manzor replied, "I think that is certainly possible." That's a long way from telling us anything about the probability of a GMC version of the Trax, and a legion of questions would need to be answered before it could happen. How would a GMC version be priced to leave room for the $26,465 GMC Terrain but not eat into sales of the $20,995 Trax or the $24,035 Encore? Or would that matter? Could it primarily be considered to encourage a new faction of The Yukon Set at the compact end, GMC buyers being famously committed to the marque? And of course, would there be a Denali version? It'll probably be a long while before we have any kind of answers, but if you want to see it happen, the door to your campaign of persuasion is at least ajar.
Callaway debuts its new C7 Stingray at National Corvette Museum
Fri, 02 May 2014Callaway showed off its first tuned version of the 2014 Corvette Stingray at the National Corvette Museum last week, giving the rampant enthusiasts of America's sports car a look at the roughly 620-horsepower, supercharged rocket.
Unlike the Corvette SC610 we showed you back in January, this Stingray packs a fair bit more oomph. Horsepower is only up ten ponies, but torque has jumped from 556 pound-feet to "at least" 600 pound-feet. Neither horsepower nor torque is official quite yet, although Callaway is expecting to know just what its creation can do once testing and validation is completed later this month.
The 6.2-liter, supercharged V8 now boasts a new, three-element intercooler, which Callaway claims only allowed the inlet air temperature to increase by ten degrees Fahrenheit during dyno runs. Previous designs saw a 35-degree-Fahrenheit jump. The exhaust system has also been fettled with, and now is even less restrictive.
