1974 Chevrolet Corvette looking for a good home.  4 speed transmission with body matching t-tops.  I purchased the car off Ebay about 6 years ago from a gentleman in Illinois and had it shipped to me.  The vehicle was painted while the previous owner had it.  The shine is still there, but there are a few bubbles in the hood area.  You can also see where a good finish sanding was not completed prior the final respray due to some light scratches visible.  The car looks great from 10 feet away.  I am just being honest and trying to represent the car the best I can.  Radiator just flushed & fluid changed.  New Wipers installed.  The car has only been driven in rain once since I have owned it (go figure, moving day).

I have replaced the following items over the last few years:
Intake Manifolds (removed headers),
Air filter & assembly,
complete tune-up,
rear brakes,
oil pump,
seals,
lower radiator hose,
upper radiator hose,
thermostat (170 degree installed),
heater pump hoses,
alternator rebuilt,
alternator bracket replaced,
power steering line,
wheels (back to original),
carpet (floor sprayed with rubberized undercoating & then lined with dynamat prior to new carpet),
seat cushions,
seats re-upholstered,
seatbelts,
numerous interior trim pieces,
floor mats,
center console,
shift boot,
ash tray,
interior temperature control cluster,
rear compartment assembly,
radio (vintage in appearance, but digital with ipod adapter hidden in ashtray area)

What I would replace if I was keeping the car:
interior door panels,
paint,
clock,
rear bumper (currently a one piece which in 1974 they came from the factory a two piece with split down the middle),
tripometer (does not work, but the odometer does)
install the luggage rack on the back.

There is a chip on the drivers door at the edge where my son  (he is still alive, so relax) opened the door into another vehicle.  The chip has been touched up with paint.  The Original air conditioner has never been checked since I've owned the car due to not driving it hardly at all.  The belt was frayed, but present when I received the car.

I have tried to take it back as close to factory original as I can.  It is a numbers matching car from everything I've checked out.  The carb is a Holley, not the quadrajet.  I found a napkin inside with the original dealerships name on it. When I replaced the carpet, I sprayed undercoating on the interior floor and then lined it with dynamat (for heat reduction and noise cancellation) prior to laying down the carpet.

Here is the research I've done on the car through the NCRS manual:

Trim tag
416= Medium Saddle
80L= Orange Metallic
E18= Body Built May 18th
Vin#
1- Chevrolet
Z= Corvette
37= Coupe

126724= Sequence # of Vehicle
Engine Block:
3970010
AC Compressor:

I am selling the car to get a larger camper for my family, so one toy must go before I can upgrade another unfortunately.  No partial trades or trades of any kind welcome.  Price is firm.  Buyer pays shipping and all other included costs.  I will drive it to the shipper.  Appraisers welcome under my schedule.  I will deliver within 150 miles of me for free.  Car is for sale locally as well.

More pictures will be sent upon request.  I will take specific pictures if requested to the best of my ability.

GM cutting vehicle trim options to save money for electrification

Sun, Mar 1 2020

Information continues to filter out about GM's plans based on comments the automaker made during its Capital Markets Day event in February. GM President Mark Reuss said the company's push to save money by rationalizing the number of build combinations will continue in 2020, carrying on the work done in 2019. As GM Authority covers, last year, the carmaker cut 3,500 components across model lines, a 12% drop in the number of parts it needed to stock in its plants. Reuss used the next-generation Chevolet Equinox and GMC Terrain as examples for more cost efficiencies, saying build possibilities — which include international markets and their options — will be cut by more than 50%, and use more shared parts. "We will reduce total trim levels on Equinox and Terrain from eight to six," Reuss said, "reduce engine variants from 11 to 5, reduce build combinations from more than 200 to less than 100 per program, and see significant cost savings of an already paid-for architecture that took the mass out, helping us self-fund electrification programs." GM will plow a large amount of the money it saves into its ambitious EV program. In 2017, the automaker said it intends to have 20 electric vehicles on the market by the end of 2023, some of which could be shared between brands. An automotive analyst at Seeking Alpha and a piece in Automobile attempted to put specifics to what we should expect. As Automobile points out, the first two EVs in the 20-car program are already on sale, being the Ariv Meld and Ariv Merge eBikes available in Belgium and The Netherlands. We've seen the Cruise Origin autonomous rideshare taxi, although we don't know when it will hit the road. The next three, which we should see in the metal shortly, are two Cadillac EVs and the GMC Hummer EV pickup. The Cadillac pair are expected to be sized like the XT4 and XT5, and along with the Hummer, should hit the market starting in late 2021.

GM Design shows what could have been and what might be

Thu, May 27 2021

We periodically like to check in with GM Design's Instagram account to see what they're cooking up. Even better is when we catch a glimpse of an alternate history of what legendary designers from The General's past were thinking, though those ideas may not have made it into production. This week, for example, the account posted some illustrations from George Camp, whose career at GM spanned nearly four decades, from 1963 to 2001. One of the renderings is of what appears to be a 1971-72 Pontiac GTO Judge, but with two headlights instead of the production unit's quad beams. The rear departs from the canonical version most dramatically, with a massive integrated wing. Other bits that didn't make the production cut include large side vents, a gill-like side marker and rectangular intakes below the headlights that wouldn't be out of place on a modern design today. Amazingly, from what we can make out of the date, it appears that the drawing was done sometime in 1965, which makes it quite prescient.           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) There's also a very aerodynamic interpretation of a Corvette ZR-1. To our eyes it splits the difference between the 1986 Corvette Indy concept and a fourth-generation F-body Pontiac Firebird, so perhaps parts of Camp's work on this sketch did make it into physical form. There's also a radical sports car concept from May 1970 that resembles the Mazda RX-500 concept from the same year, a Syd Mead-looking Cadillac coupe, and an Oldsmobile with a cool take on the company's trademark waterfall grille and elements of the Colonnade Cutlass at the rear. Other recent posts include a FJ Cruiser-like off-road EV, a sleek coupe with the Chevy corporate grille, and a rendering of a Silverado-esque pickup that looks far better than the current production version.           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) It's pretty easy to lose hours in the account, but it's always fascinating to see GM's visions of what could have been and what might be. BMW, Hyundai score big in JD Power's first Tech Experience Index

Mon, Oct 10 2016

While automakers are quick to brag about winning a JD Power Initial Quality Study award, the reality, as we've pointed out before, is that these ratings are somewhat misleading, since IQS doesn't necessarily distinguish genuine quality issues. JD Power's new Tech Experience Index aims to solve that problem. The new metric takes the same 90-day approach as IQS but focuses exclusively on technology – collision protection, comfort and convenience, driving assistance, entertainment and connectivity, navigation, and smartphone mirroring. It splits the industry up into just seven segments, based loosely on size, which is why the Chevrolet Camaro is in the same division (mid-size) as Kia Sorento and the Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class is in the same segment as the Hyundai Genesis (mid-size premium). It makes for some screwy bedfellows, to be sure. Still, splitting tech experience away from initial quality should allow customers to make more informed and intelligent decisions when buying new vehicles. In the inaugural study, respondents listed BMW and Hyundai as the big winners, with two segment awards – the 2 Series for small premium and the 4 Series for compact premium, and the Genesis for mid-size premium and Tucson for small segment. The Chevrolet Camaro (midsize), Kia Forte (compact), and Nissan Maxima (large) scored individual wins. Ford also had a surprising hit with the Lincoln MKC, which ranked third in the compact premium segment behind the 4 Series and Lexus IS. This is a coup for the Blue Oval, whose woeful MyFord Touch systems made the brand a victim of the IQS' flaws in the early 2010s. But Ford and other automakers might not want to celebrate just yet. According to JD Power, there's still a lot of room for improvement – navigation systems were the lowest-rated piece of tech in the study. Instead, customers repeatedly saluted collision-avoidance and safety systems, giving the category the best marks of the study and listing blind-spot monitoring and backup cameras as two must-have features – 96 percent of respondents said they wanted those two systems in their next vehicle. But this isn't really a surprise. Implementation of safety systems from brand to brand is similar, and they don't require any input from users, unlike navigation and infotainment systems which are frustratingly deep.
