1973 Corvette Convertible 454 Big Block 4-speed Aux Top Barn Find Matching # on 2040-cars

This auction is for my 1973 Corvette. It still has the original 454 engine. I bought the car from the original owner a few years ago. He told me he bought it when he came home from Vietnam.  I don't know enough about corvettes to know if it is a "survivor "  but to me it is. It is unrestored. It came out of his barn. I had to replace the tank meter in order to get it running(it was clogged up). I did some of the normal/ typical things one does to a car that had been sitting such as,: replaced the brake calipers, brake master cylinder, exhaust system(original style), had a new front bumper cover installed, re-chromed the rear bumpers. I also had to do a little work to the front head lights as the were stuck open. I installed new springs and new vacuum relays and that took care of that. The license plate bezzle is new old stock. I had some work done to the tack drive distributor. Mr. Lars Grimsrud rebuild the carb. (he's one of the best) I had a friend of mine that is a professional mechanic do some of the bigger jobs. He installed a new clutch and flywheel ring gear. He also installed a new cam, lifters, bigger valve springs and pushrods, harmonic balancer, etc. Two years ago he was supposed to pull the engine and rebuild it and he still has not. This is why I am selling the car. The plan was to put a new rotating assembly in the engine. Including dome pistons to increase the horse power.( I believe the engine is ready to be overhauled so it made sense to me to do a custom build on the original engine, so the mechanic talks me into this and then is to busy to do the job ugh)) The car has been sitting for two years  now. I did drive it around the block once last year, that was the last time it was even started. I really don't like seeing it sit and would like to pass it on to someone with the time and money to restore this car. It's a valuable car. Many experts say this year convertible big block is a great investment. See www corvetteblogger dot com/2011/06/03/c3-corvette-makes-hagertys-top-5-attainable-dream-cars   The NADA value is very high on these cars. I insured it for much more than my asking price. I just am looking to get my money back so please do not email with low offers or trades. I did find some interesting facts once I bought the car,:Only 4,943 convertibles made in 1973. Only a handful of 454s. only 1,328 Auxiliary hard tops(the cloth top needs to be replaced) This was no biggy to me as it is kept in the garage. the 454 is referred to as LS4, only 3,704 4 spds in 1973, it has tilt-tele, map light, manual steering witch is rare, most had PS. I am selling this car as is, where is, with no warranty implied or expressed.  All sales are final. I will not take the car back so please ask questions before you bid. I normally leave something out so feel free to ask questions before you bid.  Another interesting thing is the numbers on the engine block indicate that it is California emissions, but the car car sold new in NJ., Buyer is responsible for the removal of the car, I will not relaes the car until it is paid for. Please plan on transporting the car with in a week or two of the sale unless other arrangements have been made. Thank you for looking.

Chevy Volt 'acceptable,' Nissan Leaf 'poor' in new IIHS safety tests

Thu, Jul 31 2014

Ford C-Max Hybrid also scored "acceptable" rating. With US Nissan Leaf sales up almost 30 percent during the first half of the year, the only thing that might be able to stop the battery-electric vehicle is a good, stiff barrier. Unfortunately, thing's aren't always pretty when that happens in the real world, according to new tests from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Things with the Chevrolet Volt extended-range plug-in are a little bit rosier, though. The two plug-in vehicles were part of a batch of a dozen vehicles that just went through the IIHS's "small overlap" test, in which the driver's side front corner of the vehicle is crashed into a rigid barrier at 40 miles per hour. Out of the dozen, only the Mini Cooper Countryman was given a "good" rating. Five vehicles, including the Volt and the Ford C-Max Hybrid, were rated "acceptable," two were "marginal" and two, including the Leaf, were "poor." Plug-in vehicles are unique in the crash-test context because of their relatively large battery sizes. In the Volt's case, the driver had a "low risk" of injury, said the IIHS. But the Leaf's crash substantially pushed back the instrument panel and steering column, creating a scenario where the driver was "likely" to sustain leg injuries. The batteries in both the Leaf and the Volt passed safety tests specifically targeted at things like thermo and electrical properties and overall integrity. "Nissan is proud of the Leaf's 'Good' rating in all other IIHS tests, a 4-star NCAP rating from NHTSA and its IIHS Top Safety Pick rating in all previous years since the car's release," the company said in an e-mail sent to AutoblogGreen. "As for the performance of the 2014 Leaf in the 'small overlap frontal test,' Nissan will continue to review these and other results from the IIHS 'small overlap frontal test' as we seek opportunities for improvement." Check out the IIHS's press release and small car crash-test video footage below. Range of ratings: Small car ratings run the gamut in challenging small overlap front test The Mini Cooper Countryman is the only small car to earn a good rating among the latest group of 12 cars subjected to the Institute's small overlap front crash test. Two electric models and a hybrid also are in the mix, with varied results. The electric-powered Chevrolet Volt (with a gasoline engine "range extender") earns an acceptable rating, while its battery-electric rival, the Nissan Leaf, earns a poor rating.

GM throttles back Chevy Malibu, Buick LaCrosse production over swollen inventories

Wed, 06 Feb 2013

As inventory of the Chevrolet Malibu and Buick LaCrosse continues to pile up, General Motors will be idling its Fairfax Assembly Plant for two weeks, according to Automotive News. This move comes about a month after the plant was shut down for three weeks in late December and early January for the same reason. As of January 31, the GM had a 94-day supply of Malibu stock while the LaCrosse was a little worse with a 117-day supply.
Just last week, GM announced that it would be investing $600 million in upgrading this plant, but it's unclear what future plans the company has in store for Fairfax considering slow sales of both the plant's models. We do expect a refreshed and more luxurious LaCrosse shortly and an early design update for the Malibu to be announced at some point this year, although we have had no official word as to when either will happen.

Recharge Wrap-up: NEDC's NOx problems, autonomous Chevy Volts

Mon, Dec 7 2015

The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) found a significant difference in NOx emissions in Euro 6 diesel cars in NEDC and WLTC testing. While 88 percent of the cars tested met emissions standards for NEDC, NOx emissions averaged five times higher under WLTC, with only 27 percent of vehicles under the limit. WLTC is considered to be a more realistic driving cycle, using hot starts and factoring a higher top speed as well as harder and more frequent accelerations than the NEDC. Employees will be able to use a carsharing app to reserve a car, which will then drive itself to the set destination. The project will allow GM to collect important data and experience to help the company more quickly develop autonomous driving technology. The lithium-ion batteries used to power the EV were recycled from other Renault EVs. With the electric Trafic, Carwatt – a company that converts vehicles to use electric power – aims to demonstrate the "circular economy" of batteries, which can provide more value through a longer lifecycle. Read more in the press release below. Carwatt presents a unique automotive application for second-life batteries from electric vehicles. On the sidelines of the COP21 summit, in the Solutions Gallery running from 2 to 9 December 2015 in Le Bourget near Paris, Carwatt and its partners —Renault, Paris City Council, BPI France, the Ales Ecole des Mines Engineering School, and the Bobigny Business Campus — are showing a very special electric Renault Trafic. This prototype vehicle, the only one of kind in the world, is powered by second-life lithium-ion batteries recycled from Renault electric cars. Circular economy at work with electric vehicles When, over time, the batteries of a Renault electric vehicle fall the performance threshold specified for their initial automotive power duty (around 75% of initial capacity), they can still provide valuable service in "second-life" applications before end-of-life disposal at a recycling centre. Experiments are already under way on power storage applications, for example.
