While there is always a 1965-66 model Corvair for sale, finding the later years from 1967-69 is difficult. That is because starting in 67, Chevrolet had decided to end production. The 67 model had only 10,000 made, by 69, only 500 or so were made. My 67 is a solid daily driver near show quality in most aspects. No rust issues. Solid. The odometer reads 55,000. I believe it because of how it drives. The engine is strong, no oil leaks. The tranny shifts very smooth. I bought it three years ago from a person in Colorado, who got it from his elderly friend who could no longer drive and parked it. Some work has been done on it because it does have electronic ignition, Petronix. I installed new O-rings and the oil leak ended. I replaced the shocks, but not bushings. The tires have plenty of tread and the brakes were redone. A new muffler was installed, took off the carbs and cleaned them and replaced worn parts. The radio works, but the heater is not hooked up. Lights and blinkers work, as do the wipers. Fuel gauge works, windows roll up and down, plugs and oil changed. A new starter was also installed. That said, I drive the car less than 600 miles a year but drive it a few times a week for a few miles. I will include all of the official Chevy shop manuals and some other Corvair books. The manuals are needed for DIY repairs.

The only thing you need to do is to replace the foam and vinyl on the two bucket seats, a minimum. Total cost was estimated at $600, if you did yourself (not hard at all once you buy the kit from Clark's Corvair online). The rear seat is still intact but fragile. The car was painted three years ago and still in good shape. The seats are functional now with seat covers. Buyers are responsible for shipping, which will be between $600-1200 on average, depending where you live.  If you decide to buy and we agree on the sell, money can be transferred directly from your bank to mine or a Cashiers check, no money order. While I believe the car is original miles, it is hard to tell. All I can say is that if it turned over, the engine and tranny must have been rebuilt because there are no compression issues at all, it runs like a new car. Some of the bushings could be replaced fro a softer ride. If interested, I can send you audio files or short videos also.

This is a coupe, 4-spd. I have owned automatic Corvairs and can tell you that manual  tranny is the only way to go because of carburetor synchronization issues at idle. I was so glad to find a manual tranny and have had no problems with this car. You can ask questions directly: email- perrya@jps.net.

GM laying off 500 workers to slow Chevy Sonic production

Sat, Oct 24 2015

Due to slow sales of the Chevrolet Sonic and Buick Verano, General Motors is cutting a shift at the Orion Township plant that builds the pair. The move lays off about 500 workers, but most of them are expected to get offers to transfer to other factories, Automotive News reports. The move came just a day after GM announced adding 1,200 employees to the Detroit-Hamtramck plant. GM has been trying all year at the Orion Township factory to align production of the Sonic and Verano with their demand. The automaker first attempted idling the plant several times and eventually resorted to laying off about 100 workers. It also reduced the production rate there. With the huge rise in popularity of crossovers, demand for the plant's small cars is on the downturn. According to Automotive News, there's currently a 116-day supply of Sonics and 100 days of Veranos to sell. Delivers tell a similar tale because the Chevy is off 35.2 percent from January to September, and the Buick does little better with a 27.2 percent drop from the same period last year. While the situation at Orion Township might look rough now, big things are on the horizon. Soon, the new Chevy Bolt electric vehicle will be built there when it hits the market around 2017. Plus, the plant will also get a $245-million upgrade and 300 new jobs for another, unannounced vehicle.

GM cutting production at two plants

Thu, Feb 26 2015

General Motors is continuing to adjust to excess supply of some of its brands' models. To get production more in line with the vehicles' actual demand, the automotive giant is idling two of its factories in North America in the coming months. The Orion Assembly plant is going to be down from March 9-13, according to an anonymous plant worker and another insider speaking to Automotive News. The factory builds the Chevrolet Sonic and Buick Verano, but there are plenty of both models sitting on dealer lots, including 216 days worth of Sonics, according to AN. The factory already had two idle periods announced to reduce the excess. In addition, downtime is scheduled at GM's "Flex" line at the Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, plant from April 13-17. This affects supply of the Chevrolet Camaro, Impala, Buick Regal and Cadillac XTS. Among them, the automotive giant has the largest supply of Regals ready for dealers with 213 days worth of them, according to AN. The future for the whole Oshawa factory is cloudy in general, though. There are rumors that it could close entirely in the future because the Camaro is leaving and the Regal and XTS might not last much longer than 2017. The Canadian government and the labor union there intend to put up a fight, though. GM profit dips on truck changeover, but beats estimates

Thu, Apr 26 2018

DETROIT — General Motors on Thursday reported a higher-than-expected quarterly profit despite a drop in production of high-margin pickup trucks, as it gears up for new models that are expected to boost profits next year. Like rivals Ford and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, GM is banking on highly-profitable Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks to lift profits, as consumers shift away from traditional passenger cars in favor of these larger, more comfortable trucks, SUVs and crossovers. During the first quarter, the process of changing over to GM's new pickups resulted in a drop in production of 47,000 units. GM Chief Financial Officer Chuck Stevens said the production drop had resulted in a drop in pre-tax profit of up to $800 million. Earlier this year, GM said its 2018 profits would be flat compared with 2017, but expected its all-new pickup trucks would boost margins starting in 2019. On Thursday, GM reiterated its full-year 2018 forecast for adjusted earnings in a range from $6.30 to $6.60 per share. The automaker said capital expenditures were more than $500 million higher in the quarter because of investments its new pickup trucks and a family of low-cost vehicles under development with Chinese partner SAIC Motor Corp. On Wednesday, rival Ford said it would stop investing in most traditional passenger sedans in North America. CFO Stevens told reporters on Thursday that GM has "already indicated that we will make significantly lower investments on a go-forward basis" in sedans. 2019 GMC Sierra View 21 Photos GM benefited from a lower effective tax rate in the quarter, but adjusted pre-tax margin fell to 7.2 percent from 9.5 percent a year earlier. Stevens said the company's profit margin should hit 10 percent or higher in the second quarter and for the full year. GM said material costs were $700 million higher in the first quarter, and it expects those costs to continue rising. The automaker said it would counter those increases with cost cutting measures. "It is a more difficult environment than it was three or four months ago," Stevens said when asked about rising commodity prices from potential steel and aluminum tariffs announced by the Trump administration. "But we are confident we can continue to offset that." The company reported quarterly net income of $1.05 billion or $1.43 per share, a drop of nearly 60 percent from $2.61 billion or $1.75 per share a year earlier. Analysts had on average expected earnings per share of $1.24.
