Yenko Stinger YS095

Yenko Stinger YS095

This is a wonderful and rare vintage racing car. We just competed this June at the SVRA Indianapolis Invitational, where the car place second in class, what a great event! Although this car hasn't been freshly restored it is still very presentable. It does have it's share of race track rash and bruises.

History:
Purchased new from Don Yenko at Yenko Sports Cars in Cannonsburg, PA. by Grady Davis, Vice President of Gulf Oil Company. Grady had been introduced to Don Yenko a few years earlier by the "Pink Lady" Donna Mae Mims who, by chance, left her business card on the windshield of Grady's Corvette while parked on a Pittsburgh street. Don and Donna Mae were founding members of the Corvette Club of Western Pennsylvania and so Donna Mae invited Grady to attend there next meeting. Don and Grady became fast friends and a Corvette racing career ensued. After some successful years racing Corvettes himself, Gulf Oil brass thought that Grady should not be a racing driver himself, but rather manage the racing. Grady invited John Wyer to stop by the Gulf offices in October 1966, with a one page contract in hand, John returned to England and the Gulf Oil Racing Team became a reality. When you see the familiar blue and orange Gulf racing colors on a Ford GT40, Porsche 917 (Steve McQueen's "LeMans"), all the way to todays Aston Martin Vantage GT2, McLaren MP4-12C GT2, and Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 racing cars, you'll know where it came from!

Grady bought this car for his daughter Sara Davis Eller. During this same time period Grady was sponsoring Dr. Dick Thompson's SCCA racing efforts in another Yenko Stinger owned by Yenko Sports Cars. I have been told that from time to time parts were borrowed from this car for the race car! This Stinger (YS095) was the only Stinger ever owned by Mr. Irion Grady Davis.

This Yenko started out as a Stage II street Stinger and until it was modified for vintage racing by Keith Young of Young Chevrolet Racing in Dallas, Texas. Keith raced the car in vintage events for several years until further updates were made to race the car in SCCA GT3 class. Since 2001 we have raced the Stinger in vintage/historic events and SCCA E-Production.

Although race prepared, this Stinger has not been "cut up" to lighten the chassis. It would not be difficult to restore it back to original Stage II street trim.

Seriously interested buyers are welcome to contact Jeff Moore at 417-343-four-seven-four-seven, 9-9 central time or email through eBay. I also welcome you to come inspect the car in person. Interesting partial trades considered.

Here are pictures of the FOUR number plates/stamping that are used to document that a Yenko Stinger is indeed one of the 100 original COPO cars.

The Factory VIN Plate, the cars are titled with the Chevrolet VIN, not the Yenko number.

The Fisher body tag with proper dates and codes.

The Yenko identification plate.

The "proof" that a body is original, the "hidden" VIN stamping in the frame rail.

This is a copy of the document when Grady Davis traded the car back into Don Yenko for a new 1969 Corvette.

These next two documents are from when Yenko sold the car used in 1969.
I would say that this Stinger is probably one of the few that Yenko Sports Cars sold twice!

This is a page from Charlie "Bud" Doerge's research before writing his book on the Yenko Stinger showing the ownership chain dated 1992.

This is the cover of the Corvair Society of America's monthly publication "CORSA Communique".

The Stinger has been a podium finisher at every vintage event it has been entered in since 2007.

The Stinger is at the very end of this SVRA video

GM offering factory-backed extended warranty for Chevys, GMCs, Buicks and Cadillacs

Mon, Oct 15 2018

Cars are generally more reliable than ever before. When things do go wrong, every automaker offers some form of factory warranty (in most cases at least three years and 36,000 miles, though many extend even longer), providing peace of mind to new-car buyers that many faults will be fixed at no charge to the customer. Starting today, GM is offering a new optional plan that will extend the factory warranty on all new Chevy, GMC, Buick and Cadillac products. In the past, extended warranties have been offered as dealer add-ons, with all profits from these sales going to the dealership. GM's new program can be viewed as another nail in the the looming dealership-model coffin. According to Automotive News, some dealers aren't happy to see GM cut into their business like this, saying that it helps GM far more than it does dealers. GM says the new program will help keep customers in the GM family. Customers are also more likely to visit a GM service center rather than going to an independent repair shop. Currently, new Chevy and GMC vehicles come with three-year/36,000-mile warranties. Buicks and Cadillacs are covered for 4 years or 50,000 miles. The new program extends Chevy and GMC warranties to five years or 60,000 miles. Buick and Cadillac warranties extend to six years or 70,000 miles. GM, citing IHS Markit, says most owners keep new cars for about 6.8 years, so these warranties will cover most of the length of their ownership. The extended warranty will add between $1,000 and $2,000 to the price of a vehicle, and the additional cost can be rolled into the vehicle's purchase or lease price. Unlike many dealer extensions, the factory program covers the vehicle no matter who owns it. That should help increase the car's resale value if it's sold within the covered timeframe. GM says there's no deductible and no need to file a claim form when getting warranty repairs. Additionally, dealerships can continue to sell their own extended warranties or service contracts. Chevy Crossvolt name kept alive in new trademark application

Fri, Dec 26 2014

In April 2011 General Motors submitted a trademark application with the US Patent and Trademark Office for the word "Crossvolt." In November of this year, the application expired for lack of a statement of use. But in August of this year, GM applied again for the same trademark, leading some to believe that it intends to apply the name to a vehicle. That vehicle could explain the mule in sliced-and-diced Chevrolet Orlando bodywork caught in several spy shots this year, theorized to be some kind of Toyota Prius V or Ford C-Max Hybrid competitor; or it could be a production version of the Chevrolet Volt MP5 concept showed off at the Beijing Motor Show in 2010, which was about the same size as the Chevy Orlando. Or it could be none of those things – but the fact that Chevrolet is keeping it current makes us believe it will be... something. This 450-hp electric Lotus Evora is powered by Tesla and Chevrolet

Tue, May 9 2017

When someone mentions an electric Lotus, the first thing that comes to mind is the Tesla Roadster, the California-based automaker's first vehicle. That car started life as an Elise before being heavily massaged and adapted by Tesla's engineers. In a similar spirit, the people at Onpoint Dyno are close to finishing Blue Lightning, a track-ready all-electric Lotus Evora. Blue Lightning uses a Tesla drive unit and a Chevrolet Volt battery pack, both mounted in the middle in place of the Evora's 3.5-liter Toyota V6. It's putting down about 450 horsepower at the wheels. The car was built for time attack sessions, so power is fed through custom forged wheels and super sticky Pirelli PZero Trofeo R tires, the same ones found on the last Chevrolet Camaro Z/28. There is a custom digital instrument cluster in place of the Lotus gauges. There's also a regen paddle on the left side of the steering wheel. With a full charge, Blue Lighting should go about 120 miles. While the car runs under its own power, it's only about 90 percent complete. It has no power steering, no firewall in between the seats and the motor and battery pack, no A/C, and a large hole where the shift lever used to be. Other final touches include fine-tuning the brakes and suspension. There is also a custom rear bumper coming that should make it look more like the new Lotus Evora 400. Onpoint Dyno expects the car to hit the track in the next month or so. Related Video:
